Perfectly dial in your recirculation flow rate with the DC powered VarioS 4 CR200 Calcium Reactor. Calcium reactors are capable of maintaining a balanced ratio of calcium, alkalinity, magnesium, and other trace elements by dissolving aragonite medias with carbon dioxide gas which drives down the pH of the water to an acidic level dissolving the media releasing elements that your corals will use to grow. CO2 Regulator & Solenoid - We have had great success with the CarbonDoser from Aquarium Plant Life
pH Controller & Probe - The Milwaukee MC122 is very reliable and is our go to standalone pH controller. A slightly better option would be an aquarium controller like an Apex with a dedicated probe for the reactor.
CO2 Tank - We carry a 5lb CO2 Tank that will last the average tank around 6 months to a year. You can usually find a local welding gas supply shop to fill your tank, but a better source would be medical or beverage grade CO2. Do not use CO2 that is used in paintball guns.
Effluent Feed Pump - We suggest a pump that flows around 150 GPH after the head loss. In most cases, a needle valve or gate valve can be used to decrease the flow if your pump is too powerful.
Silent and really nice quality By networkcrasher on 11/8/2018networkcrasher would recommend this product to a friendSo this reactor replaced a Vertex RX-C 6D reactor I used to have. I needed a reactor quickly and this was the only one I could find that would fit my tank. I've been quite happy with it, but I've struggled to understand how the CO2 recirculation loop is supposed to work. I feed about 85mL/m to the reactor and adjust my CO2 as needed to keep my alk stable, but if I keep the return loop valve open at the top of the reactor, it just sits there and chops bubbles all day. I honestly just keep it closed and force it to self purge out extra CO2 through the output, but I'm sure it's not running as efficiently as it could be. My Vertex had the same issue where the recirculated gas got chopped up by the pump, so i'm not entirely sure how to make this thing work.
The good news is this reactor uses the Varios pump, which is a seriously awesome pump. I should probably start messing with the variability of the pump with the return loop turned on to see what I can do to quiet down the noise. I bet if I messed with it, I could get it working. I have 4 other varios pumps doing random things, and they're all legit, hard working, and super quiet. Easy to control with the Apex, too.
