ZEOstart is a carbon food source that promotes the reproduction of bacteria which are beneficial to the ZEOvit system. The bacteria will help maintain ultra low phosphate and nitrate. ZEOstart is one big four (ZEOvit, ZEObak,ZEOfood, ZEOstart) required for the standard ZEOvit ultra low nutrient system. This system is designed to maintain maximum coral coloration, growth and health.

Promotes the reproduction of all nitrifying bacteria in the aquarium to help the system naturally remove phosphate and nitrate.

If you have a high nutrient load and are just starting the ZEOvit system, start by dosing 2 mL per 250 gallons (net water volume) of water each day until nutrient levels drop. Subsequently, dose 1-2 mL per 250 gallons. Best results are seen when dosing is split up throughout the day and automated using a high quality dosing pump.

Product Questions

Hi, someone asked if you need a zeovit reactor and you answered yes, and that it is highly recommended. Does that mean that putting this in the tank is actually doing nothing if I don't have a reactor? I just have a protein skimmer for berlin filtration method. After one month of dosing properly I have seen no reduction in nitrates, which are at 40. Please let me know. I also don't know if this needs to be refrigerated or not and what can I use to measure? They don't say if you can use the cap or not. I have a syringe I am using for the 1ml. Do I need to use this in conjunction with another product from their line and their reactor? There is no info. Thanks!

Hey there,
This product in particular is a food source for specific bacterial which act as a part of the microbial chain in the Zeovit system to consume nitrate and phopshate. Without the use of the other Zeovit system products and reactor media, the effects of this product may be limited. KZ has a number of bacterial/microbial supplements which help to create the complex nutrient reduction chain in conjunction with their zeolite reactor and this food source, and removing critical components from that system may prevent them from having the desired affect.

Hope this helps!

Hi can I use zeostart w/out zeovit reactor? because my sump it to small for reactor.
Thanks.

Great question! We only recommend using Zeovit products with complete Zeovit systems that utilize a Zeolith reactor, and a high powered skimmer.

My question is on dosing I have a 24 gal nano and a sump with extra 5 gal. so with displacement I estimate around 25 to 28 gal. I just was wondering if I was correct on this should I dose .2 mls? Any suggestions I'm just starting this do I want it rite from the get go.thanks

Great question!
You will ideally want to dose the correct amount (.2ml) directly into the zeovit reactor for best performance. It is a fairly simple process. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
