Aqua Ultraviolet UV Sterilizers will eradicate algae, bacteria, and protozoa without any harmful chemicals or additives!

UV lamps emit a wavelength that will alter and disrupt the DNA or RNA of single-celled organisms. Combining the UV lamp into a large housing allows for maximum contact time with the lamp allowing the sterilizer to be much more efficient. By changing the flow rates through the body of the UV sterilizer lets you target the specific issue you may be having. Most reefers will report that their tanks water clears up overnight with others taking just a couple days, and as long as the UV is running, the water will stay crystal clear! Every AquaUV Sterilizer includes quick-connect unions on the input and output allowing you to quickly remove the entire system from your aquariums plumbing for maintenance, allowing you to mount the UV Sterilizer without having to worry about having room for quartz sleeve and bulb changes.

  • Clear Blue Quartz Cap - Lets you see when the lamp is on
  • EZ-Twist Cap - Quick and easy quartz sleeve maintenance
  • Quick Release Unions - Remove the entire body without any dismantling your plumbing

Great for tanks up to reef tanks up to 150-gallons

Suggested flow rate for saltwater aquarium sterilization - 400 GPH

How UV Works?

Ultraviolet sterilizers are used in a wide variety of industries for sterilization, and in your saltwater aquarium they work wonders at controlling unwanted bacteria and protozoa at low flow rates, but at higher flow rates can help maintain free-floating algae which are a common cause of cloudy tank water. The UV Lamp emits a UV-C wavelength that will pretty much destroy the internal structure of any single-celled creature that comes in contact with the light. Aqua Ultraviolet sterilizers include a clear-blue cap that lets you see when the lamp is powered on, without having to risk any exposure to the harmful UV-C rays. By varying the flow rate through the sterilizer and increasing or decreasing the amount of time the water is in the body will change what your UV sterilizer will be targeting and we highly suggest using a gate valve or a DC pump to control the flow through the UV sterilizer.

Maintenance

Over time the efficiency of the sterilizer will start to diminish because the lamp is no longer putting out the same amount of energy, but also the quartz sleeve that houses the lamp can become coated with mineral deposits and start to become cloudy. By replacing the quartz sleeve about once per year, and also the UV lamp, your UV sterilizer will work just like it did on day one. Most reefers will know it is time to replace the bulb and sleeve when algae starts to grow on the glass, rock, and other surfaces more rapidly.

Product Questions

how will this 25w fair with a 180G reef tank? It says 150 but what about 180?

The size is good, not too big. The other ones are way too big...
Question by: Tony on Dec 11, 2023, 10:23 AM
Hey there,
Thank you for reaching out to us. You are correct. The next model up is much bigger and over anything you need. I think the 25 watt will be sufficient for that extra 30 gallons. . Please let me know if you need anything further.

Does this come with a mounting brackets to mount it on side of the tank?
Question by: Landon Pinnick on Feb 27, 2023, 9:53 AM
I have a 150 gallon saltwater with dinoflagellates. Will the 25 watt UV sterilizer be enough, or should I go to a higher wattage bulb? Will it be too much if I buy the 57 watt UV sterilizer instead?
Question by: RANDALL VANGIESSEN on Jul 16, 2022, 6:57 PM
Thanks for the question! The 25 watt should work for your tank as by time you factor in displacement of rock, sand, and coral, the volume may be just below 150 gallons. Let us know if we can help with anything else!

What gph would I need to run this at for a 100 gallon tank. For Algea or parasites
Question by: Chris Roberts on May 19, 2022, 4:02 PM
The AquaUV 25 Watt sterilizer (https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/25-watt-classic-uv-sterilizer-black-body-aqua-ultraviolet.html) should have a flow rate of approximately 400 gallons per hour to address any algal cells or protozoa bacteria. For a standard reef aquarium, the sterilizer can run between 800 and 1200 gallons per hour.

If I want to hard plumb this instead of tubing, what would I need?
Question by: Jerome Hollon on Nov 25, 2021, 7:11 PM
Hello, thank you for the question. This unit comes with 2" Inlet and 2" Outlet PVC fittings, you can purchase separately any Bushing Fittings to reduce the PVC from 2" to 3/4" PVC. Happy Reef Keeping

What size clamp do I need to buy for this UV (25watt version) to mount in a cabinet ?
Question by: Pankaj Khetarpal on Apr 8, 2020, 9:57 AM
Hello Pankaj ,

The body of the 25 watt UV is 2" PVC so you will want to use the 2" surface mount clamp. The product SKU is 208418 on the page linked below.
