Why does BRS recommend this?

We have really liked the Tunze Comline skimmers due to their small form factor and their ability to adapt to many different systems. With AC pump and DC pump models available you can choose the skimmer that works best for your system.

The Tunze Comline DOC skimmer utilizes Tunze's "Flash Skimming" principle. The skimmer is quiet and generates a very large volume of small bubbles for efficient skimmer operation. It operates stand-alone without needing any additional equipment (feed pumps, etc) and mounts to the tank via a convenient magnet holder strong enough for glass up to 1/2" thick. The 9004 DC Skimmer now includes a DC powered pump and controller for ultimate control and tuning ability.

The Tunze Foamer generates large volumes of fine air bubbles with a diameter between .0039 to .011 in. (0.1 to 0.3 mm) On the surface of the air bubbles, pollutants such as protein, cellulose, dead cells, etc. are adsorbed immediately. The water/air mixture expands and stabilizes in the skimmer cup reactor, the water returns to the aquarium, and the protein-loaded air bubbles spill over into the skimmer cup. The patented anti-overfoaming system intermediate chamber prevents the skimmer from over foaming and controls the skimmer performance, depending on the water level and organic load. This “flash skimming” principle, compared to large skimmers with long contact time, is obtained because the substances adsorbed by the air bubbles are not released again, thus they don‘t return to the aquarium water.

Product Questions

I have the Waterbox 25 gallon AIO Peninsula tank and have read online that this skimmer should fit in the second chamber. However, it is not clear how users of this product handle depth. Are there stands that you sell in addition to the skimmer to make sure that it is submerged at the proper depth in the back chamber?
Question by: Galen Hench on Aug 18, 2022, 6:29 PM
Thanks for the question. You can adust the depth of this skimmer by moving it up or down with the magnets on the back of the tank. Since it has two magnets there is no need for a stand since the magnets will hold it in place where you place it. Please let us know if we can help with anything else!

Will this fit in the first chamber of an Oceanic 29 Biocube?
Question by: Zak on Nov 27, 2017, 12:01 PM
We are having a really hard time finding the dimensions of the BioCube 29's filtration chamber. The skimmer requires a space of 4.3" x 3.5" x 12" and will stick out of the water about 4" or so.

Will this fit the smaller baffles in the back of a JBJ NanoCube 28, or will I have to remove my media basket from the center baffle?
Question by: JOse on Oct 23, 2017, 10:25 AM
Hi Jose, Thanks for reaching out to us!

With a footprint of L110 x W90 x H305mm (L4.3 x W3.5 x H12 in.) this skimmer will not fit in your tank without modifications. I would recommend the Innovative Marine DeskTop Ghost Skimmer (SKU: 208663) as an option but be aware that it will be slightly under-sized for your system.

An alternative to a skimmer on this size tank would be to perform weekly or bi-weekly 5 gallon water changes which will provide many benefits to your tanks inhabitants in addition to keeping dissolved waste levels to a minimum.

Will this fit a red sea c 130 tank in place of the stock skimmer
Question by: Steve on May 20, 2017, 3:03 PM
Based on the listed dimensions for this system, I'm afraid it would appear that the 9004 is just a little too large to fit in the back.

Happy reefing!

Will this skimmer fit in the second compartment of a jbj rl 45
Question by: Alex on Apr 16, 2017, 9:40 AM
Hey there,
As we don't carry the JBJ rimless tanks, I'm afraid we can't make this test ourselves. However, in talking to our customers, they have found the Comline 9004 to fit in the back of the 45 rimless tanks.

Hope this helps!

Will this fit in the back compartment of the Innovative Marine Fusion 20? The IM Ghost skimmer I have now I don't like
Question by: Daniel on Dec 31, 2016, 9:23 AM
Great question! This will not fit for the Fusion 20. Currently, the IM Ghost skimmer is the only option we have available that will fit. :-)
