Reef Octopus Elite Protein Skimmers feature a premium cast acrylic body along with the reliable VarioS DC pumps. Compared to other skimmers in the same category, the Elite series of skimmers are much more efficient and quieter. The wine glass shape body allows bubbles to smoothly transfer up into the collection cup, where many other skimmers use two-piece body designs that create sharp edges and breaks bubbles. Every Elite skimmer comes with an integrated skimmer cup overflow float switch that directly connects to the VarioS pump controller and will shut the skimmer down when the cup is full, eliminating messy and smelly overflows.

Controlling the flow through the Elite series from Reef Octopus is done by the wedge pipe, which can be twisted easily to adjust the water level inside of the skimmer. The other method of tuning is the VarioS pump, which can be adjusted through 5 different speeds which give different air to water ratios. Since not every reef tank is made the same, having multiple methods to control the flow and dwell time can lead to a much more efficient protein skimmer.

Product Questions

When selecting a skimmer do I choose water volume of my tank only or include the sump volume as well? I’m stuck between an 8” or 9” with tank volume of 150 gallons and a 40 gallon sump. I’m planning an sps mixed reef with lots of small fish and invertebrates and I trend towards over feeding. I’m thinking the 9” is best bet, but still confused on skimmate production vs neck size and tank volume.

Hey there, when selecting a skimmer you would want to include all of your water volume so that includes your sump. It is always better to go with a slightly smaller skimmer then to over size the skimmer as a smaller skimmer will still function properly in a larger tank but a larger skimmer will not work properly if you over size it. Thanks!

Where can I get the cable, or which cable do I use in order to hook the 0-10 volt to my Apex?

This is the cable you would need to hook the 0-10 volt to an Apex. https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/kessil-a360-control-cable-type-1-neptune-apex.html

Hi! Was thinking of putting this on a Red Sea 525xl, 140g. Is this too large and may be tricky dialing in? Or can these ones be oversized without much troubles.. thx!

Hello, It is best to select a skimmer rated for the size of your aquarium, the Elite 200-INT 8" would be a great option even if you plan on overstocking the tank. Happy Reef Keeping.
