- VarioS-8 Controllable DC Pump (2700 GPH) - Reef Octopus
Reef Octopus VarioS DC pumps give you enhanced performance and precise control of flow through your aquarium's reactors, sump, or closed loop system.
With complete control through the VarioS Controller, you can control the flow of the pump, enter feed modes (15 or 60 minutes), add a safety float switch (included), or simply connect it to a third party controller like an Apex.

The safe and energy efficient VarioS DC pump now include the new VarioS controller giving you more control. With 5 different energy saving speeds and two feed modes, the controller lets you know what your pump is doing at a glance.
Third Party Control
There is a dedicated port on the VarioS controller letting you directly connect your VarioS pump to any third party controller through a 0-10V reference port. Controlling your pump through a controller like an Apex lets you create your own flow profiles which are particularly handy for closed loop systems creating a random flow throughout the aquarium.
Having a pump that lets you directly attach a float switch has several advantages. The float can let you set high or low points in your sump, skimmer cup, or display tank that will shut the pump off when the float is activated.
The VarioS controller includes a waterproof 3-conductor union that connects to the pump creating a safe and detachable connection.

We better then eco tech pumps By Sean on 2/24/2018Sean would recommend this product to a friendMy power supply went out twice on my ecotech Vector1 pump. It was still under warranty but was through screwing with it. This Various-8 puts out way more water and has been running for 8 months without an issue! Great pump!
Awesome pump By Scott on 2/5/2018Scott would recommend this product to a friendThis is as good as or better than my Vectra L1 on my other tank. Even though no problem with the Vectra wanted to try the RO on my other 160 gallon tank. Quiet, well-made with no problems over 4 months. Great pump at a great price!
Have 2 By Bret on 1/6/2018Bret would recommend this product to a friendI have this on my 180 reef and it's running as my main pump for 6 months without fail. I had a v-6 fail on my discus breeding rack and they over nighted me the parts to fix the pump. Make sure the bearing is pressed in where the tail shaft spins and you won't run into that problem. If customer support wasn't as good as they were I would have been upset but I like this over the eco tech pumps I have by far.
Starting making noise after 2 months. Coralvue support did not help By Oral Seymour on 12/12/2017Oral Seymour wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI purchased this pump and used 3/4 plumbing, after about 2 months it started to make a loud whirring sound. I contacted Coralvue support and they were not helpful at all. They blamed it on my plumbing which is 3/4. I shipped the pump to them, they turned it on, said it was obviously my plumbing and they shipped it back to me without fixing it. Now I have a $375 pump that I can't use because its making such noise. They suggested I create a pimp to "bleed" excess pressure but that's what my refugium does. It's a connection to the manifold that is not restricted.
Stay away from this pump and Coralvue support.
Great Pump By Pat Fenis on 11/24/2017Pat Fenis would recommend this product to a friendLove this pump on my 220G! Have it set on #3 setting and still have huge flow and some left over!
Good in the right application By Ryan on 10/30/2017Ryan wouldn't recommend this product to a friendThese pumps are great in the right application. Example I ran as a fully submerged pump where exposure to air in the line was nearly improbable. It ran great, loved it.
I ran the same pump externally where there isn't lots of overhead water height and it's not good. Mainly in a back siphon situations where air is mixing with the water... think of a quick power outage or you temporarily pause the pump. Then it's terrible and lacks the ability to move water until the airy back siphon is done. It will also go into a safe mode around this time for 15min to protect the pump and pause operation.
The slow spool up is a great feature unless you need a pump that simply runs when asked. Like a car merging into traffic, sometimes easing in is great, other times your wishing the person in front of you would just speed up.
Great flow at 8' By Corey on 9/15/2017Corey would recommend this product to a friendJust installed this on my 150g tank where I have about 8' of head pressure. My tank has a 1 1/2 " return and I can't turn this pump all the way up or it will come within 1/16 of an inch from overflowing my tank. This pump is almost silent.
This vs echo tech By Bret on 9/10/2017Bret would recommend this product to a friendI have this on my 180 display mixed reef. I also have a 6 on my discus breeding rack. Compared to my m1 on my 150 gallon frag system I prefer these pumps over the echotech pumps for a few reasons. Cost is much less, you can use th se with ice caps and save $100 per system at the cost of 20-40 gph. Next is interface. They both are about the same but I like to be able to hit one button instead of hold a button, silly but when you have as many systems as I do the 5 seconds holding a button to feed vs a quick touch helps.
It's completely scilent and I will be buying many more of theses in the future.
Love this pump. By Pete on 7/25/2017Pete would recommend this product to a friendSuper quiet and very low heat transfer. Never going back to an A/C pump.
Great Pump By Darrin on 7/13/2017Darrin would recommend this product to a friendI have a 125 gal tank and a 55 gal sump with a 20 gal second sump. 2/ 800 gal overflows i needed a new pump bad i had a Quiet One PRO 4000 (1022 GPH) - Lifegard running it didnt really think it was pumping 1022 gals. i wanted to replace it with the VarioS-6 Controllable DC Pump (1720 GPH) - Reef Octopus (1 have an Apex to control it) but BRS was outa stock over a month so i got the VarioS-8 Controllable DC Pump (2700 GPH) - Reef Octopus glad i did. its awsome so far the Apex flow meter says its doing 800 gals at 100% with my plumbing. i got the Quiet One PRO 4000 (1022 GPH) - Lifegard on 1 of my reactors and the FMM says its only doing 120 gal..only 2 ft of plumbing.
Excellent ! By Tanh on 3/5/2017Tanh would recommend this product to a friendI run this return pump on 250 gallon SPS reef tank. Very quiet pump, Apex ready, float switch, ....Excellent pump . I am satisfied with this pump.
This week on BRStv Investigates - Tank Trials, Rya ...
The way I'm reading it, the barb fitting is not a reducing bushing. Have a great day!
I'm afraid we don't sell extension cords directly, but I imagine any appropriate grounded cord would work.
Have a great day!
The Varios pumps are compatible with the Ice Cap battery. It's just a matter of using the right power plug adapter, and Ice Cap provides a number of plug adapters for the majority of pumps on the market.
