Update on my last review, i cant get this to skim any more. I cant get it high enough that it wont over flow or low enough that the pump isnt drawing air. Difficult to tune if not impossible. Very frustrating By tom on 12/4/2018tom wouldn't recommend this product to a friendVery frustrating. Cant get it to skkm anymore
Great skimmer for the size, works well. little tricky to dial in. By tom on 11/4/2018tom would recommend this product to a friendI have a biocube 29 drilled with a 10g homemade sump. The mount will not work on a regular aqueon fish tank. you will need to have the right water height, a base to compensate, or rig it up to work. It does skim great, but it took me a while to get the water levels dialed in without it overflowing every once i a while. Took a couple days for it to break in, but now its working like a champ.
Great skimmer By Patrick on 9/8/2018Patrick would recommend this product to a friendSkimmer works great setup and install took about 15 min. Break in period was about 24 hours and it's been pulling out thick dark skim ever since
Killer Little Skimmer for Tight Spaces By Mical on 8/5/2018Mical would recommend this product to a friendI have been looking for a skimmer that would fit in tight confines for my 65gal mixed tank. (I mean tight! less than 18 inches clearance) I took a chance on one of these little guys in my sump vs a HOB version (I didn't want anything else in main display) I'm astonished of how efficient this little guys is and easily adjusts. It was producing skimmate within 18 hours of install. This little guy runs circles around my Mag 5 in other tanks. Best skimmer for the $ "buck" Thank RO
Definitely Recommend By Stratos on 1/12/2016Stratos would recommend this product to a friendThis little skimmer is perfect for my small setup. I have it in the sump of a 30 gallon, takes virtually no space, can adjust the height very easy and is very powerful. Once it breaks in (about a week or so) it's a little monster.
Good skimmer, with proper application. By Mitch on 12/17/2015Mitch would recommend this product to a friendThis skimmer works it's tail off, if you take the time to adjust it. There are three ways to adjust this skimmer. #1: The mounting bracket will adjust the depth of the skimmer in water. #2: The retaining ring that holds the skimmer reaction chamber will allow you to adjust the depth of the skimmer in water. (Note, this skimmer is designed to surface skim the water entering it. So adjust this to allow that to happen.) #3: The standpipe where the water exits the skimmer will adjust up and down, raising the water level in the reaction chamber. It took me a few days to break in. Then about a week to adjust for optimal skimmate. It sounds a lot more difficult than it is. The footprint is about the size of the BRS single reactor. I think this skimmer was built more for people without a sump, as it is a hang on, inside the tank. If you are looking for a minimalist approach as I was, and stay within the BRS suggested tank size, this skimmer is a no brainer!
Flimsy design By igvm on 11/25/2015igvm wouldn't recommend this product to a friendThe design is not really thought through.
The mounting bracket does not work with rimmed Aqueon aquariums.
In HOB configuration, the ring with the screw hold the skimmer at certain depth, but in order to remove/put on the skimmate collection cup and to adjust the foam you have to apply vertical force to the unit, and it is very easy to shift the unit up or down in that ring because the screw does not really hold it well.
The piece of pipe connecting the pump to the chamber does not fit the pump snugly, so the pump tends to simply fall off if you are not careful. I had to put some teflon tape around the pipe to make it fit better.
I heard many recommendations for Octopus brand, but this particular model does not improve the brand image.
On the bright side, the performance in terms of skimming seems to be good.
Great Little Skimmer By BlueJaw on 9/4/2014BlueJaw would recommend this product to a friendI have this skimmer on my 20gal long open loop system. I have a 10gal sump in the stand and this skimmer sitting in the first baffle chamber for a constant level. This thing is great! I have the 100 hang on the back version on my 40 gal and its a 2/5 at best but this little bh50 does a great job. It super easy to use, MUCH easier to set up and adjust than the 100, and I think it does a better job as well. Highly recommend this product!
Great Skimmer By lwood on 5/24/2014lwood would recommend this product to a friendI used a corallife 65g for my 55 column & I must say this new little fellow rivals that, the removable cup makes this bad boy a 10/10 on cleaning and along with my nano bio reactor it is the perfect fit into my proflex fuge in chamber 3. Fyi, this skimmer needs a constant water level to perform. 3.99/5 overall because the actual unit was missing the hole to put the airline tube through. . . And the suction cups are flakey at best and require light touch not to fall off the pumping unit. The acclimation period is about 1 hour and also if you decide on this skimmer keep in mind your best results come from a surface skim which you can see from online videos but not the instructions.

Does this hang on the back?
This is a hang in tank protein skimmer and not designed to hang on the back. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
Is this skimmer appropiate for a 40B with 20 long sump? And how high does the water need to be for it to work properly?
The water level of this should be around 1-2 inches below the level of the tank and the tank will need to be 14" high to mount the skimmer. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
Wil this work in a nuvo fusion 30g all in one?
This will not be a perfect fit. As an alternative We recommend the Midsize ghost skimmer by IM.
