When keeping a nano tank, the challenge of finding the right protein skimmer is magnified as you are often very limited on space. The Bubble Magus QQ1 is an excellent hang-on-back nano skimmer that is affordable yet also very capable and will easily fit onto almost any small aquarium.
Compatible Systems
The QQ1 is perfect for rimless nano aquariums up to 25 gallons. This skimmer can be compatible with rimmed aquariums, but a notch spanning the width of the skimmer must be cut out of the plastic aquarium rim.
The Design
This skimmer is completely self-contained and very compact with the pump built into the bottom of the unit. This allows for easy access for cleaning as well as fewer leak points. Also, it won’t need to be inside of your tank which is perfect for nano’s where space is at a premium. The bubble level is easily adjustable by lifting the collection cup and tightening the screw on the side. An overflow drain tube will prevent the collection cup from overflowing and it can even be plumbed down into a larger container.
This entire system is just 4.4 inches wide and it only needs three inches from the tank to the back of your wall in order to operate.

Bubble Magus added in a microbubble trap to prevent any of those pesky bubbles from making it back into your display tank. Additionally, this skimmer is near silent when operating which makes it a great choice for a bedroom or office aquarium. At under $100 this skimmer provides some serious bang for your buck.
