BRS360: Inside Our Stunning SPS-Dominant Reef Tank

If you've ever wondered what goes into building a high-end, SPS dominant reef tank from the ground up, you're in the right place. The BRS360 isn't just a display; it’s home to some incredible fish and coral and packed with some of the best gear in the hobby. Behind every equipment and stocking decision lies years of experience. Let’s take a closer look at how this tank came together, what’s running behind the scenes, and what’s next for this epic reef.

The Display: Built to Impress

It all starts with the showpiece, a custom 360-gallon Reef Savvy aquarium made from 3/4" low-iron glass. Reinforced armored seams and a phantom bottom offer rock-solid stability and crisp visual clarity. The display sits on a Chris Benner-built stand, which adds both style and function.

Some standout features of the stand include:

  • A removable shroud for easy access
  • Customizable aluminum light rack
  • Built-in stairs for safer and more convenient maintenance

Life Support: Clean, Clear, and Controlled

Next to the tank lives a custom Royal Exclusiv sump, the heart of the filtration system. Inside, you’ll find:

We’ve also converted part of the sump into a refugium, complete with a gyre for flow and a full spectrum Kessil grow light to support macroalgae growth.

Flow and Lighting: Designed for SPS

Proper flow and lighting are non-negotiable in an SPS dominant reef, and the BRS360 delivers on both fronts.

Dosing and Water Parameters

We’re running Triton Core 7 to supply major, minor, and trace elements and keep water chemistry stable. Here’s how we like to keep our numbers:

  • Alkalinity: 9 dKH
  • Calcium: 400 ppm
  • Magnesium: 1400 ppm
  • Phosphate: 0.25 to 0.45 ppm
  • Nitrate: 20 to 40 ppm

Feeding and Maintenance Routine

This tank is fed 12 times daily:

Everything is monitored and automated with an Apex System, giving us complete control and peace of mind.

Livestock: Coral and Fish

Corals: This is an SPS dominant tank, featuring a wide variety of Acropora, Montipora, and a few standout LPS specimens. Growth has been explosive over the past year, and we’re now reaching the point where fragging is in our near future.

Fish: The BRS360 is also home to an impressive fish collection, including:

  • A 15-year-old Naked Clownfish
  • Oreni Tilefish
  • Captive-Bred Regal Angelfish
  • Evansi Anthias
  • Many more beautiful species
