Should've bought this earlier By valerie on 3/8/14valerie would recommend this product to a friendWe Purchases the RKL Plus. We are running our light, heater and auto top off system. I like that the system has the My Reef prgram, that lets you customize your system fairly easily. Had it up and running in no time. Once you get everything set up, it does take a minute or two to actually kick in and turn everything on and off on your first setup, but once thast done, things run smoothly. Love that I dont have to turn lights on and off all the time and add top off water so often. Everything is well made. The ph probe is included but does not come with instructions to calibrate it, but there is a great video on you tube that explains exactly how to do it.
Far from plug & play By Mtthbrook on 2/9/14Mtthbrook wouldn't recommend this product to a friendPositives: good brs video to help with setup, good forums to help with setup, good price
Negatives: not very expandable, not much instruction from the manufacturer, not compatible with iPads,
Summary: I think I should have spent the extra coin for a better unit.
Great Reef Controller By Jonathan on 2/4/14Jonathan would recommend this product to a friendI wanted to add a controller to my tank for a while and after watching the videos here at BRS I decided to go with the Reefkeeper from Digital Aquatics. It installed easily inside my stand. There is ample cable provided to set the various modules in many different locations away from the head unit if desired. Programming it is pretty easy, much easier than an Apex. Its not as full featured as an Apex, but at the much lower price point I can live with that. The RKL head unit can only run 4 modules, which is a slight drawback, but it is expandable at least. I understand that you can trade in the RKL to DA to upgrade to an Elite which can run 16 modules; I may do that eventually. My only gripe would be the instruction manual, which is so basic as to be almost worthless when figuring out how to calibrate the ph probe. All in all I like the unit though, and am happy I bought it.
Nice controller but easy to outgrow capabilities By Patrick on 1/25/14Patrick would recommend this product to a friendI'll never set up another aquarium with out a controller.
I monitor PH, Temp, control my lights, have a feed mode to turnoff pumps and light on. I have alarms set for PH, low temp high temp.
The only problem I've ever had is with the Temp probe connection on the SL1 module. Contacts on the RJ6 connector get corroded and set off my temp alarm. So far it has never caused me any real problems.
I also find that I want to do more that than the "Lite" controller can do and they are things that the elite controller can do.
Love my RKL By Geoffrey on 1/17/14Geoffrey would recommend this product to a friendLovin my RKL plus also purchased the dual float kit. Makes my life that much easier takes a little of the load off plus it's just really cool with all the features you can use
Best purchase I ever made. By Joshjk on 11/9/13Joshjk would recommend this product to a friendThis controller is amazing. It does everything! It was so easy to setup. I fallowed Bulk Reef Supply's how to video on thus and it made it so easy. Everything worked right of the box all came in great condition. My RKL plus give me a piece of mind when I'm not with my tank. I bought this as a ultimate fail safe for my new tank I'm setting up. I lost my previous tank basically over night about 6 weeks ago. I now dont have to worry because my RKL will take care of basically everything that can go wrong. I tell everyone about this controller and how wonderful it is.
Great buy By Dylan on 10/28/13Dylan would recommend this product to a friendMeet and went above my expectations. I now have the ability to control my whole tank from one device which saves me time and money. Great product.
Not for the impatient By David on 7/22/13David would recommend this product to a friendThis product is really cool, if you like gadgets and fish tanks, you will want to get this. The only draw back i found when hooking this up, which is mentioned in other reviews, is the piss poor set up guide and having to use the forums on the digital aquatics site to get answers. If you have weak google-foo you will hate this product, but if you can get through the set up you will love it.
Gets the job done! By Chad on 7/22/13Chad would recommend this product to a friendI purchased the apex lite controller to replace my reefkeeper lite plus after owning the reefkeeper for only 8 months, and I am happy to report that I am very pleased with my decision to upgrade. This apex lite is quite a bit more expensive than the reefkeeper lite plus, but is comparably priced with the reefkeeper lite w net module.
Pros: PRICE! You are getting a lot for your money with the reefkeeper lite plus. pH probe is included! The SL 1 is capable of monitoring both pH and ORP. Gets the job done! I was able to successfully control everything the way I wanted to with the reefkeeper.
Cons: The reefkeeper lite can only interface with a total of 4 modules, that means you can only add one module to the reefkeeper lite plus package, whether it be an additional energy bar, a salinity module, lunar lighting module, whatever. Speeking of modules, the internet module is not included in this package and must be purchased separately. The reefkeeper is only Windows compatible. It is not compatible with Mac OS. The controller is somewhat cumbersome to operate/program with the 5 button interface. I highly reccomend plugging it in to your Windows machine using the included interface in order to program/change settings.
What I reccomend: If you are on a budget, the reefkeeper lite plus SHOULD be able to get the job done and I would prefer this unit over the apex jr. Otherwise, if network access is a must, or if you are debating between the apex and the reefkeeper elite, I think the apex is the way to go.
Great value By Dennis on 7/6/13Dennis would recommend this product to a friendI have several of these units controlling tanks ranging in size from 75 gallons through 300 gallons. I have been very happy with its performance. Controls lights, dosing, heater and back up safety on chiller. In my opinion, no need to buy more expensive units.
Good and easy to use controller By Clint on 6/24/13Clint would recommend this product to a friendI've had the RKL plus controller for about a year now. So far I've been very happy with it. In my opinion its a great introductory into controllers. I didn't want an overly confusing system and after much research, the RKL won me over due to its ease of programming. Currently I use mine to monitor pH and temp as well as run my equipment. The ability to set up your heater as a controller is fantastic. No more worries of a heater failure frying your livestock!!!!!
nice controller and good cost By Paul on 5/31/13Paul would recommend this product to a friendEasy to program and set up. This is my first experience using a controller and found this to be simple and just right for my needs at this time. I would have given it 5 stars but DA does not have their myReef 2.0 program for Mac yet. Would have been even easier to set up if I could have programed using their software vs the interface and remember what each piece of equipment was connected to.

Would this be good to run on a 20 gallon reef?
Bulk Reef Supply Hey there,
I actually have a controller running on my 16g here at the office. Despite the size of the tank, there is just some equipment you never can really get away from like heater, timers, etc which really makes a controller a great choice for just about any size aquarium and it would be a great choice for your tank.
