Quick Overview

ZEOvit System Guide

Zeovit reactors are a great choice for achieving an Ultra-Low Nutrient System.  By utilizing Korallen-Zucht Zeovit Stones in a Zeovit reactor you can achieve a virtually nutrient free environment in your tank by removing ammonia before it can convert into nitrites and nitrates.  Other needed additives for the Zeovit system are ZeoStart, ZeoFood, and ZeoBak

The Vertex Zeovit reactors come with the pump and plumbing needed, as well as a easy to pump handle to release the mulm.

  • Poor Design By John on 9/26/2017

This is a beautiful reactor but there is a very small bead of grey glue where the inlet pvc pipe is glued to the main reactor chamber. Right out of the box during assembly, the pvc pipe comes loose from the reactor chapter b/c of poor glue adhesion. This is brand new and should be made of better bonding material. I have contacted BRS and awaiting their reply. Based on many reviews with Vertex with no reply, I have no faith in Vertex when there is a problem. We will see, Keeping my fingers crossed and I do have faith in the customer service of BRS. I will keep you posted.
  • Quick pump failure; get silicone grease By twreefer on 1/21/2017

There are a few things to watch out for. I would say that buying and applying silicone grease to the handle pipe that you pump vertically is an absolute necessity. It will not glide easily without it (if at all). I wish they would include the grease or at least let you know this is absolutely required to be able to pump it properly by hand.

Next, after only about 30 days of use, the Eheim pump quit working completely. Completely dead. Have not called support yet but hopefully they will take care of it.

Assuming that I get the pump working under warranty, I believe this will be a good reactor from the few weeks that I was able to experience it.
  • Do it right and get the KZ By Fred on 9/14/2016

I had about 4 separate issues with this reactor, from day 1. Between the pump cover falling off to the o-ring, this reactor is not worth the hassles. 6 months of calls to Vertex got me nothing. Vertex refused to do anything for me besides send me another o-ring and suggest I crazy glue it into place... Really? I only went with this reactor to match my other Vertex and Royal Exclusiv equipment. Now I'm stuck with this oversized paperweight. I wish I had bought the KZ in the first place.
  • Well made By Jono on 2/26/2016

Definitely recommend this reactor. It is well made and comes with an adjustable flow rate pump
  • Why pay twice as much for KZ?? By stan on 12/13/2015

this thing is awesome! pumps easily, great quality build. Why would anyone pay substantially more for KZ reactor??
  • Looks nice, not to tall fits in my stand easily and I can fit my hand in the chaimber By Brennen on 3/26/2014

Its a nice reactor, I also had the o ring fall off on the bottom right away, It doesn't seem to fit very well, it also does not seem to have much of a purpose either. Small zeolites easily fall through the holes. Not entirely the reactors fault kz likes to cram about 1/3 of the bags full of pebbles. Kinda lame but it is what it is. I might try putting the small stones in a media bag at the top of the reactor on my next change out to avoid them falling through. Its nice for the compact size aquamaxx is thinner and taller, probably couldnt fix my hand in there so i went with vertex. dimensions 19" tall by 5" wide on reactor rod extended height 22"
  • Great Product! By its_so_zeoful on 2/16/2014

I bought this reactor to jumpstart a new zeovit tank, and its built very nicely, and works very well. Adjustments can be made easily to pinpoint your flow rate.

Only reason why I gave it 4 stars is due to the fact that my o-ring on the bottom of part of the reactor came off, and also the holes are too big for the smaller zeolite rocks. Both have easy fixes but for the price I should not have to worry about it from the get go.
  • Top Quality By Tom on 12/5/2013

I'm extremely impressed with the build quality of this reactor. Just the packaging alone was impressive. I will definitely look into Vertex's other products.
  • Epic Quality By BobbyReef on 3/15/2013

Very High quality product. You can easily tell that this reactor was very well thought out. The box reminds me of Apple signature packaging style, simple yet beautiful.

The pump seems to be a little small for the reactor but hopefully it packs a punch.

I have yet to run the reactor in my tank but I'm hoping for the best!
  • Excellent Zeolite Reactor By Jared on 1/27/2013

The build quality of the Vertex RX-Z reactor is second to none. It is packaged in a white box that is impressive as the reactor itself. It was extremely easy to assemble. The pump sits snug against the bottom plate, and when turned on it is absolutely silent. I would recommend this to anyone considering using the Zeovit Zeolite system.

Product Questions

what size tank is this rated for?
Question by: randy newell on Dec 29, 2016 12:02:00 PM
Great question! This size reactor is rated for tanks up to 150 gallons. :-)
Answer by: Randy (Admin) on Jan 4, 2017 3:23:00 PM
I have 65 gallons total tank volume so I should be using 0.63L of zeovit. Are these reactors designed to work best full at 1.5L or will it work just as effiecently with just over a third of the reactors capacity? Are there better reactor solutions for smaller tanks?
Question by: Steve on May 27, 2016 7:02:00 PM
Great question!
We certainly recommend the 1.5 as the less media in the reactor the more space you will have to mix up the media on a daily basis. This is the smallest version of the zeovit reactor we currently have and has been on use with our 60 gallon cube with great success!

How tall is the unit with the handle extended?
Question by: Eric on Jun 8, 2016 9:29:00 PM
Greta question!
the unit is 22.5" tall with the handle extended.
Answer by: Connor (Admin) on Jun 9, 2016 6:18:00 PM
Can I use this for GFO or Kent Marine Phosphate Sponge? I have this unit already that I eventually plan to use with biopellets and I have some BRS GFO as well as some Kent Marine Phosphate Sponge so I thought I may be able to use this to address a small phosphate issue I'm trying to address. Please advise. Thanks!
Question by: Toby Robinson on Apr 7, 2016 9:24:00 PM
Great question!
While different media certainly can be placed in the chamber the flow is not ideal for use as a standard media reactor. It can serve well as a short time use reactor with modification so the media will not tumble out however ideally a GFO or Carbon reactor should be used and this reserved for zeolite media. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
Answer by: Connor (Admin) on Apr 7, 2016 9:53:00 PM
I do not have any room left in my sump can this be plumbed to work externally? Should the discharge be aimed toward the skimmer chamber or does it not matter?
Question by: Peter on Jun 11, 2016 11:54:00 PM
Good question,
As this is a pump plumbed system it would be difficult to modify for external use and not recommended. Additionally it does not impact performance no matter where in the sump it is placed.
