Calcium reactors are not a hassle so long as you take the modern approach of pegging your pH with a probe-based controller and use a continuous duty dosing pump to push water through the reactor. Granite, the initial investment is considerably more than what you might spend using two-part and kalkwasser, after setup and installation you won't have monthly expenses and you can achieve rock-solid alkalinity and calcium levels. This eliminates the need for daily dosing and once it's dialed the reactor will require minimal hands-on maintenance.

Reef Octopus VarioS Calcium Reactors bring some great features that will streamline the entire experience. Most notably, the rugged build using high-quality materials, easy maintenance, and a reliable pump. All three of the VarioS Reactor models are constructed from solid PVC and acrylic parts that will withstand the harsh saltwater environment. The plumbing is schedule 80 PVC pipe, it has a large screw-off lid for easy media additions and the 1/4" quick-disconnect John Guest style fittings make for hassle-free tubing connections and maintenance.

The included VarioS pump is a somewhat unique feature for a calcium reactor and gives you some great advantages over your typical AC recirculation pumps. As with most any DC pump, more efficient operation and less noise are to be expected but you also have complete control. It comes with a push-button controller that features 5 pump speeds as well as a feed/maintenance hold. You can hook up a float switch directly to the pump controller or connect to your external aquarium controller via the 0-10V control port. Reef Octopus VarioS Calcium Reactor Models

CR140 - Rated for tanks up to 250 gallons and features a VarioS 2 DC pump.
CR200 - Rated for tanks up to 400 gallons and features a VarioS 4 DC pump.
CR220 - Rated for tanks up to 500 gallons and features a VarioS 6 DC pump.
