No matter what kind of tank you have, rimless, framed, or AIO (ALL-In-One), adding a refugium that is large enough to be effective is now easier than ever with Fiji Cubes Advanced Hang-On Refugiums. These well-engineered boxes hang off the back or side of your saltwater aquarium and will provide plenty of space to grow macroalgae and house beneficial microorganisms (copepods, etc).
Classically, refugiums can be difficult to add to an existing aquarium because they are most often built right into the sump and/or will require complicated plumbing. This hang-on design opens up the benefits of a living filter to just about any saltwater aquarium, nano reef or not. Installation is painless and it comes with a pump so all you have to do is assemble a few components, mount the refugium, fill it up and add some extra saltwater.

In addition to providing the necessary space for macroalgae to export nitrate and phosphate from your aquarium, the included probe holder and dosing tube holder allow you to easily conceal and organize probe wires and dosing tubes so you are not stuck staring at them in your display. The hang-on brackets are adjustable to accommodate your tank's rim width as well as the leveling bracket to ensure it sits level on the side of your tank.
The included feed pump rests inside the refugium chamber behind a baffle. This means the pump won't be an eyesore in your display tank and the baffle allows you to add some sand or substrate into the refugium without the worry of clogging or ruining your pump. The water is pumped into the refugium at the bottom and gravity overflows out of the top on the opposite end so you won't risk recirculating the same water inside the chamber. The outflow baffle is slotted and will prevent any macroalgae pieces from escaping the chamber.
The adjustable lighting bracket can accommodate a light mount for either your main display light or a refugium light, it will work either way. Refugium lighting is not included, however, so you want something that will be strong enough to sustain your macroalgae growth, and here are some of our favorites.
