The new innovative design of the H80 integrated the heatsink for the LEDs right into the body of the light allowing for high heat transfer without the need for a fan. The fanless design makes the light perfect for humid environments where refugiums can usually be found.
Dense Matrix LED
Kessil has spent many years developing and researching LEDs, and they have developed a unique array that they build in-house, packing numerous diodes into an area no larger than a dime. This creates a nice even blend of colors and produces a very broad spread of light. With such a tight pack of LEDs, the individual colors are thoroughly mixed before the light even leaves the optic lens reducing hot spots and providing uniform coloration throughout the tank.
After many years of R&D, Kessil Logic™ can be found on all of Kessil's LED lights. The H80 allows you to fine tune the overall color and intensity that the light puts out while keeping a spectrum that will be optimal for algae growth and vitality. Throughout the multiple spectrums and intensities, Kessil Logic keeps the overall light output balanced. Compared to traditional refugium lights, the Kessil H80 is years ahead of the competition and is our choice for a refugium light.

Great light for small to mid refugiums! By Zachary on 8/23/2017Zachary would recommend this product to a friendBefore getting this light I had just a cheap marineland led light over my refugium. And it worked, but I didn't notice great growth out of my algea. I've since bought this light and my refugium has bloomed! A definite must if you want a great refugium light!
Excellent light for a small refugium By Randall on 8/9/2017Randall would recommend this product to a friendI have a small refugium in the sump of my 100 circulating gallon system. I have some chaeto there but also several other algae species. I also try to cultivate pod reproduction there. I initially used a cheap but powerful terrestrial LED grow light I found on Amazon. It was plenty bright, but the nuisance algae outgrew the good stuff. Bought the Kessil not expecting much change, but was very pleasantly surprised when this light resulted in markedly increased macroalgae growth and virtual elimination of the nuisance algae.
Also, you can connect this light to a couple of the variable output ports on an Apex, and program lighting intensity and spectrum changes throughout the day, if you're so inclined.
Beautiful, powerful By Bryan on 7/26/2017Bryan would recommend this product to a friendLOVE the glow from under my Red Sea reefer 425xl. Grows algae disturbingly fast. Gooseneck is well worth the $20.
KESSIL H80: EVERYTHING IT CLAIMS TO BE By DavidS on 6/12/2017DavidS would recommend this product to a friendA little background first:
I have a 38 gallon Nano and I have a HOB CPR Aquafuge with the corresponding CPR lights that fit over the top of the fuge.
I have tried for some time to grow Chaeto in the fuge. If you've viewed BRS's review their results are spot on; which is to say you will get minimum growth with the CPR lights.
When I found out about the H80 I noticed that the size of it would fit on the Fuge. (It is a VERY tight fit so you would have to be careful. Otherwise you might want to hang it from the Fuge.
I believe that Kessil claims that the H80 is ideal for the growing of Chaeto.
I would have to say that is an understatement. The Chaeto is growing better than a weed. I've been cutting it back every 3 to 4 days. I believe that has also resulted in a reduction of the micro-algae in my display.
I have the following settings:
I keep the Kessil in the "Grow" mode, at FULL intensity, for 18 hours. However, you could probably get as good growth with less intensity and running it for 12 hours.
I originally had it set for 12 hours but I upped it to 18 to see if it would improve the PH stability in the display.
This didn't happen, perhaps because the Fuge is so much smaller than the display.
Good light By Steve on 5/29/2017Steve would recommend this product to a friendGrew some chaeto the size of a baseball to the size of a basketball in 2 weeks! Light works great for a refugium. Only complaint I have is the intensity knob isn't great. The knob doesn't allow for much variation in output from off to full power.
Kessil Delivers! By James on 5/29/2017James would recommend this product to a friendAs always, Kessil produces a great light. I have this over my refugium and it has grown chaeto and sea lettuce successfully. If you have a small refugium I would definitely recommend this light. Great bang for the buck. In retrospect I should have gotten the one above this one but For the price point, this light is hard to beat.
Outstanding light By Israfil on 5/28/2017Israfil would recommend this product to a friendIt's growing chaeto like it says! I recommend the gooseneck mount for some sumps as it has a clean look!
Great Refugium Light By Kenny on 5/7/2017Kenny would recommend this product to a friendI have two lights mounted 6" above my 21" x 16" refugium. They are running on on reverse cycle of my display tank, 13 hours per day. I am getting great growth with my Chaeto, highly recommend.
Great product By JJ on 5/1/2017JJ would recommend this product to a friendDoes exactly what I need it to do, good growth on chaeto.
Ask a question
Thanks for getting in touch with us in regards to this light. More then likely the intensity of this light is much more then your chaeto is used to having. you will probably experience some die off as this acclimates to the new light intensity. Another thing that is recommended is increasing flow across the chaeto to allow for it to spin and not burn on one spot. Please let me know if there is anything else that we can assist with. Thanks!
