- H80 Tuna Flora Refugium LED Light - Kessil
Designed For Refugiums!
The Kessil H80 Refugium Lights are perfect for growing many different types of algae, most notably chaetomorpha. You can tune the light manually or it is fully controllable through its four different color modes with the Kessil Spectral Controller or any 0-10v controller.
- Integrated heat sink
- Kessil Logic
- Color Tuneable
- Canopy Mount included
- Compatible with Spectral Controller
- Connect multiple with unit link cables
The new innovative design of the H80 integrated the heatsink for the LEDs right into the body of the light allowing for high heat transfer without the need for a fan. The fanless design makes the light perfect for humid environments where refugiums can usually be found.
Dense Matrix LED
Kessil has spent many years developing and researching LEDs, and they have developed a unique array that they build in-house, packing numerous diodes into an area no larger than a dime. This creates a nice even blend of colors and produces a very broad spread of light. With such a tight pack of LEDs, the individual colors are thoroughly mixed before the light even leaves the optic lens reducing hot spots and providing uniform coloration throughout the tank.
After many years of R&D, Kessil Logic™ can be found on all of Kessil's LED lights. The H80 allows you to fine tune the overall color and intensity that the light puts out while keeping a spectrum that will be optimal for algae growth and vitality. Throughout the multiple spectrums and intensities, Kessil Logic keeps the overall light output balanced. Compared to traditional refugium lights, the Kessil H80 is years ahead of the competition and is our choice for a refugium light.

Good Light, Great Service By Andrew on 6/14/2018Andrew would recommend this product to a friendSo, I've had this light for a half a year and was doing great at growing algae, but one day my skimmer overflowed and killed the power supply. I contacted Kessil to purchase a replacement and they offered to send me a replacement for free! Great company, buy with certainty.
Sleek light. By Joe on 2/12/2018Joe would recommend this product to a friendPuts out enough light for a shallower fuge no problem. Still observing growth, so no input there so far, but very simple assembly, interface and operation.
Good product By Michael on 1/9/2018Michael would recommend this product to a friendThe H80 dropped my nitrates from 20 to 0 over a month growing chaeto. I have a 75 gallon display and 25 gallon fuge. I was dosing 1.5mL of vodka to keep the nitrates under control, but not anymore. I've actually had to start feeding significantly more as the corals started to starve with the very clean water. I would highly recommend for a fuge light. Not so much as a horticulture light though.
Great light! By Brett on 12/23/2017Brett would recommend this product to a friendGreat for a refugium and grows cheato fast.
Must have! By Zech on 11/16/2017Zech would recommend this product to a friendHaving the Kessil H80 over your refugium in my IMO is the best bang for the buck. My cheato has never grown so fast helping keep levels perfect.
My favorite Fuge light of them all By Nathan on 11/6/2017Nathan would recommend this product to a friendThis is by far my favorite fuge light. I have had a ton of lights including the H380 (it's big brother). This light has intensity controls which is important to me in a fuge light so I can choose to run shorter or longer light cycles. The only thing missing to me is that it doesn't have a hanging option like the other Kessils. I purchased the goose neck and am having solid growth using this light.
Amazing By Ferdinand on 10/9/2017Ferdinand would recommend this product to a friendThis thing grows Chaeto and Culerpas really good !,,,
Great light for small to mid refugiums! By Zachary on 8/23/2017Zachary would recommend this product to a friendBefore getting this light I had just a cheap marineland led light over my refugium. And it worked, but I didn't notice great growth out of my algea. I've since bought this light and my refugium has bloomed! A definite must if you want a great refugium light!
Excellent light for a small refugium By Randall on 8/9/2017Randall would recommend this product to a friendI have a small refugium in the sump of my 100 circulating gallon system. I have some chaeto there but also several other algae species. I also try to cultivate pod reproduction there. I initially used a cheap but powerful terrestrial LED grow light I found on Amazon. It was plenty bright, but the nuisance algae outgrew the good stuff. Bought the Kessil not expecting much change, but was very pleasantly surprised when this light resulted in markedly increased macroalgae growth and virtual elimination of the nuisance algae.
Also, you can connect this light to a couple of the variable output ports on an Apex, and program lighting intensity and spectrum changes throughout the day, if you're so inclined.
Beautiful, powerful By Bryan on 7/26/2017Bryan would recommend this product to a friendLOVE the glow from under my Red Sea reefer 425xl. Grows algae disturbingly fast. Gooseneck is well worth the $20.
KESSIL H80: EVERYTHING IT CLAIMS TO BE By DavidS on 6/12/2017DavidS would recommend this product to a friendA little background first:
I have a 38 gallon Nano and I have a HOB CPR Aquafuge with the corresponding CPR lights that fit over the top of the fuge.
I have tried for some time to grow Chaeto in the fuge. If you've viewed BRS's review their results are spot on; which is to say you will get minimum growth with the CPR lights.
When I found out about the H80 I noticed that the size of it would fit on the Fuge. (It is a VERY tight fit so you would have to be careful. Otherwise you might want to hang it from the Fuge.
I believe that Kessil claims that the H80 is ideal for the growing of Chaeto.
I would have to say that is an understatement. The Chaeto is growing better than a weed. I've been cutting it back every 3 to 4 days. I believe that has also resulted in a reduction of the micro-algae in my display.
I have the following settings:
I keep the Kessil in the "Grow" mode, at FULL intensity, for 18 hours. However, you could probably get as good growth with less intensity and running it for 12 hours.
I originally had it set for 12 hours but I upped it to 18 to see if it would improve the PH stability in the display.
This didn't happen, perhaps because the Fuge is so much smaller than the display.
Good light By Steve on 5/29/2017Steve would recommend this product to a friendGrew some chaeto the size of a baseball to the size of a basketball in 2 weeks! Light works great for a refugium. Only complaint I have is the intensity knob isn't great. The knob doesn't allow for much variation in output from off to full power.
Hello, I was just wondering if this light would be a good fit for the "Small 13" AquaFuge2 External Hang-On Refugium - CPR Aquatics"? I'm wanting to use that fuge on my 29g tall tank but I'm trying to find a good light to use on it to make my fuge better at removing nutrients.
This light could work for that fuge, however it would probably be best used if you found a way to mount it sideways so that it lights the entire chamber top to bottom. :-)
What intensity should I use on a 12×8×10 fuge? Can this light burn Cheto?
Is this compatible with the Apex?
I have a 24G cube with a 10 gallon two chamber sump. I have my chaeto growing in the slightly smaller return section. 6" wide and about 10-12" long at a depth of 8" water level. Would this light be strong enough. I have read a lot of mixed opinions on the H380 vs H80. I just feel the H380 may be overkill and I only need to compete against an AI prime HD with your recommended lighting schedule set. Thanks for the help.
A single H80 would be more than enough light for your refugium. Have a great day!
Do I get the unit link cable for the controller. My A360s did?
Unfortunately, the Kessil H80 does not come with a unit link cable.
My chato is turning yellow after switching to this light. Anyone else having this problem?
Thanks for getting in touch with us in regards to this light. More then likely the intensity of this light is much more then your chaeto is used to having. you will probably experience some die off as this acclimates to the new light intensity. Another thing that is recommended is increasing flow across the chaeto to allow for it to spin and not burn on one spot. Please let me know if there is anything else that we can assist with. Thanks!
