Brightwell CoralAmino

To earn the BRS Recommended badge of approval the aquarium product must offer great value at its particular price or accomplish something truly unique for your aquarium. In many cases, it is a combination of both that brings these products to the forefront and worthy of highlighting.

Brightwell Aquatics CoralAmino is unique in that it is the go to amino acids supplement for some of the biggest and most successful coral growers in the industry.

CoralAminos at World Wide Corals

World Wide Corals shared that CoralAmino is their preferred method for breathing life back into corals that have lost color or otherwise have been stressed to the point of needing some TLC. It is also one of the many secret ingredients in their special food recipe they mix up for their display tanks and grow out vats.

Josh at WWC spoke of it with such high regard that we started dosing it to a few of the tanks here at BRS, particularly those that run fairly low nutrient levels.

The building blocks of protein

Amino acids are the building blocks of protein and by adding them to your tank you can rapidly help nurture stressed corals back to life. The primary source of protein in your reef tank is high-quality fish and coral foods and the resulting fish waste but this needs to be processed or metabolized by corals to have a benefit.

Being that Amino Acids are essentially protein that is already broken down, organisms like corals that can utilize them will be able to generate and repair tissue with a much lower metabolic energy cost.

Before and after shot of corals being dosed with CoralAmino

In addition to using the Brightwell CoralAminos on various display tanks around the office, we also ran a BRStv Investigates experiment. We added it to a couple of stable coral tanks and documented the results after two months. While not a controlled experiment, the only change to the tanks was the addition of CoralAmino and the results were quite impressive on a myriad of different coral species showing better coloration and tissue health.

The small bottle is well priced and the recommended dosage is only 1mL per 50 gallons so give it a try and add a bottle to your arsenal of additives. Simply dose as directed when you feed your fish and watch your corals thrive!
