To earn the BRS Recommended badge of approval the aquarium product must offer great value at its particular price or accomplish something truly unique for your aquarium. In many cases, it is a combination of both that brings these products to the forefront and makes them worthy of highlighting.

In the spirit of transparency, Reef Chili is a BRS creation and product we hold close to our hearts because it actually predates BulkReefSupply.com. We are a bit biased but with that in mind, the community rapidly adopted the product over 15 years ago and is the foundation of everything that became BRS.

That alone is not good enough to earn the coveted BRS recommended tag and the real reasons that put Reef Chili at the top of the list for coral foods are a bit more refined.

Coral Farming Studies with Reef Chili at University of Hawaii

Scientifically Proven

The University of Hawaii actually included Reef Chili in their study on coral farming, specifically the effects of light, water motion, and artificial foods.

For the tests performed on Montipora Capitata all of the artificial (non-living) coral foods showed more growth compared to filtered seawater but Reef Chili recorded the most growth with a 24% increase in weight. They concluded that Porites Compressa corals were not influenced by any of the foods and only Reef Chili and Reef Roids contributed to growth in Pocillopora damicornis.

Another notable fact is that Reef Chili achieved these growth results with 1/10th the amount of food. Other foods included in the test required 10 times more food to achieve any sort of comparable results. This is good on a variety of fronts and for the purpose of being a BRS Recommended product, this indicates value providing the best performance while also keeping costs down.

Reef Chili

Exceptional Quality

Reef Chili is not some kind of miracle elixir on steroids either, it is a blend of zooplankton, copepods, rotifers, phytoplankton, daphnia, spirulina, and neutrally buoyant marine-derived nutritive powder. This produces a wide range of particle sizes from just a few microns to over 1,000 microns. It is this nutritional variety and wide range of available particle sizes that make Reef Chili so successful.
