He's brave, he's fast, and he's helping corals to make a better tomorrow!
Mr. Chili has teamed up with The Florida Aquarium to bring awareness to coral conservation efforts and to help our customers be part of it. 100% of the net proceeds from every Super Chili sale benefit The Florida Aquarium and their research to spawn and replant corals on Florida’s Coral Reef.
The Florida Aquarium’s coral scientists are tackling one of the most urgent challenges facing our oceans by working to protect coral species that are critically close to extinction in the wild. Their work focuses on improving coral health, increasing reproduction, and developing proven methods to rebuild reefs at scale.
The impact of that work is already being seen.
In August 2019, The Florida Aquarium, in partnership with the Horniman Museum and Gardens, became the first team to successfully spawn critically endangered pillar coral in a laboratory. In 2023, they reached another major milestone when the first juvenile pillar corals born and raised in aquariums were returned to the ocean. These achievements are helping drive the restoration of Florida’s Coral Reef, the third largest barrier reef system in the world and the only living coral barrier reef in the continental United States.
Beyond these breakthroughs, The Florida Aquarium operates one of the leading coral conservation programs in the country, with a dedicated Coral Conservation and Research Center designed to house and grow thousands of corals at a time. Their work includes rescuing coral fragments from the wild, growing them in controlled environments, and outplanting them back onto degraded reefs. They also collaborate with scientists, aquariums, and conservation groups around the world to share knowledge and scale reef restoration efforts.
Healthy coral reefs are essential. They support nearly 25% of all marine life, protect coastlines from storm damage, and contribute billions of dollars to local economies through tourism and fishing. Florida’s Coral Reef alone stretches over 350 miles and has experienced significant decline due to rising ocean temperatures, disease, and environmental stressors, making restoration efforts more important than ever.
Through this partnership between BRS and The Florida Aquarium, every purchase of co-branded merchandise directly supports coral research, restoration projects, and education initiatives. It is a simple way to contribute to real, measurable progress in preserving these ecosystems for future generations.
