Today on BRStv, we have a brand new episode for our series, BRStv Investigates. In this series we explore popular reefing theories, products, methods, and what the manuals are missing, with a focus on putting them to the test! The perfect amount of nitrates in a reef tank is widely up for discussion. In years past the goal was 0ppm or as low as you could obtain. It does seem that now the up and coming trend for low nutrient systems is to dose nitrates, managing their overall concentration. Since every tank is going to be different in its demand for nitrate/nitrogen, among other elements and nutrients, using high-quality test kits is a necessity. Today we are testing a couple of different hobby grade test kits, like the Red Sea and Nyos kit, along with a Hach DR3900 laboratory grade test kit. Test kits can vary widely from the lighting in the room, mixing time, reagent types, and the overall quality of the test kit. So follow along as we put the test kits to the test! Make sure to keep following along as there is always more we are investigating. In future episodes, we are taking a look at filter socks, ceramic media, and much more.
