Great Value By Andrew on 11/27/2019Andrew would recommend this product to a friendWhen I down-sized tanks 3 years ago I bought one of these pumps as a temporary solution for the new system. It’s so reliable, powerful and discrete that I’m now buying a second one to link to it. In my SPS dominant 45g cube i run two of these at 100%/25% 15sec cycles and 2 Sicce 500gph nanos that blow behind my rockwork/backcorners.
good flow and adjustability By Barnabie on 6/6/2019Barnabie would recommend this product to a friendI'm new to the reefing game and I wasn't sure what powerhead to go with. my brother has been reefing for 5 years now and he has a MP40 and suggested it but warned me the price was high. after talking to some reps from BRS they recommended the 6040 because of the adjustability of it and compatibility of my 25 gallon tank, and more so because I will be upgrading to a 75 gallon soon. it has great flow!! my brother bought one and boxed up his MP40 for a future project! finding the right spot for it was a challenge, I think mostly because it was advertised as "easy to hide in the tank" and I was trying to do just that. once I found the money spot for it, everything has been great! controllability is amazing, and I have yet had the need to use all the power but I know that it will be enough in the 75g. I will purchase another one for more circulation in it, but its more of a "because they're affordable, and I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it" thing. Thanks BRS and Tunze!!!
Great Pump By SmallPokeySticks on 4/1/2019SmallPokeySticks would recommend this product to a friendI’ve been running this pump on a 45g cube for 2 years now. I run it in combination with 2 nano Sicce powerheads. It has been a great pump for me. It puts out a ton of flow in lots of programmable configurations. I’ve only cleaned it a couple of times. I have it shut off at night by use of a timer. I’m thinking seriously about buying a second one to replace the Sicce pumps.
Great pump, just not at low flow rates By Justin on 4/1/2019Justin would recommend this product to a friendI bought this to create circulation in my quarantine tank (a waterbox ALL-IN-ONE 30.2) which has ~20G in the 'display' section and ~9 gallons in the filter section. It has good build quality, I really liked the controller mount which looked/functioned great next to my Tunze simmer controller box. I also like that it was significantly cheaper than the vortech mp10 and integrated with the Apex with a simple cable instead of a module. However, I wasn't able to get the flow rate 'low enough' for the tiny quarantine tank. Below ~20% power the impeller would stop spinning. I tried with and without the flow diverter, but it was just too much flow. I bought a very young biota captive bred yellow tang, and he swam in the flow and got pressed up under a rock / against a snail and the flow was such he couldn't escape. Was funny/sad (I was there, and immediately killed the pump and all is well). I ended up replacing with the more expensive vortech mp10 which is a more dispersed flow and works at very low flow rates. I'll keep this Tunze for my next project, maybe to add flow in a small frag system (with other pumps of course)
Nano reef variable flow By Brettward on 3/20/2019Brettward would recommend this product to a friendWhen it comes to having a nano reef, having enough flow but not too much, getting variable flow, and having something attractive seems like a tall order. This product was directly recommended to me from an email request I made to BRS. I looked into their video and did some outside research. I'm in love. This lil guy is awesome, quiet, and really ideal from a variable flow standpoint to help keep my torches happy and wiggling around. One of my best purchases I've made for my tank. What's more, when I added the additional flow, my tank became more clear, rocks cleaner, and sand healthier looking. Just love it.
Loud By Nick on 1/29/2018Nick wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI wanted to like this product. The loud hum is unbearable.
Its, but not down to 5 gallons By Brad on 1/13/2018Brad wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI had purchased this with intentions of using it on a nuvo 10 as tunze says down to 5 gallons and a flow down to 53 gph which is not at all the case. I wish tunze did a better job at describing the flow and size tank compatibility as if I knew it was that over powered to begin with, I would have just gone with a mp10 to begin with. I only had it in the tank for 24 hours hoping maybe the corals would like it, but that was a no go. And since it has been in the tank I now have to sell it used since I can't return it. This is the first time I've considered tunze, and might be the last. I'll stick with the ecotech vortechs, they are far more worth the extra $100. It would be great for in a larger system, but I don't recommend this on a tank any smaller than 30 gallons.
Very loud. By Robert on 10/7/2017Robert wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI have a 6095 as the main power head in my tank and it's exceptionally quiet. I needed something small to supplement for a dead area in the aquarium. I decided to go with Tunze again so I could run them off of one controller in series. This nano stream has a very small footprint and blends in very well with my black background. I gave it such a low review because of its noise level. I can hear it from 8' away from the tank. It has a click every time ic cycles on and a loud hum while it's running.
Just one flaw. By Atoll on 8/9/2017Atoll would recommend this product to a friendI have a 6040 running for around 6 months now. The only real criticism I can level at it is it needs a guard on the outlet as a black sea cucumber managed to get shredded in it but fortunately it does not seem to have affected the tank adversely. A simple guard with 3 bars would have prevented this happening, Why Tunze decided to omit a simple guard is a mystery. .
Love it By Monti on 7/4/2017Monti would recommend this product to a friendI use this in my nano tank and I love it! Super powerful and totally adjustable.
Great for nano tanks By Brian on 6/26/2017Brian would recommend this product to a friendPut this in my fluval evo and it works great with a low profile.
Loud By Anthony on 4/8/2017Anthony wouldn't recommend this product to a friendWide flow and good controllability, But it's quite noisey in wave mode turning on and off or pulsing. Even in the lowest setting it's loud. Not to happy with that considering it's 140 bucks and Jbo haven't somewhat similar controllability sleek for 60$ and are whisper quiet even on its highest setting.
Can this be controlled by an Apex without the included controller or is it necessary to communicate with an Apex? Thanks.
Have a great day!
Does the Turbelle Nanostream 6020 come with a controller it is not pictured so i am assuming it does not but i just want to make sure and can you buy a seperate controller for them
Will the magnet work on 3/8 glass?
The Tunze 6040 will work for tanks up to a 1/2" thick. Have a great day!
Can two of these be “tied” together with the light sensor/moon light? I have one with the moon light on it but would like to add a second one and keep the moon light.
Yes, you can do that, you will just need a Tunze Y cable.
