Reef Octopus Recirculating and External protein skimmers are perfect for any aquarium that does not have the space in the sump for a properly sized skimmer. External skimmers use a feed pump, which is usually not included, to slowly push water into the externally placed skimmer, and gravity will allow the water to flow back to your sump or aquarium. External and recirulating skimmers come with a circulation pump that is responsible for taking the water inside of the skimmer body and injecting it with micro bubbles that will allow the proteins and other hydrophobic particulates to collect on the bubbles and then into the collection cup.
