Quick Stats
Favia corals are colorful, hardy LPS corals known for their tightly packed polyps, bold patterns, and encrusting growth. Their contrasting centers, ridges, and outer rings can create a striking mosaic of color as the coral expands across the rockwork.
These corals generally prefer moderate lighting and low to moderate flow, making them a good fit for many mixed reef aquariums. Like most encrusting LPS, they benefit from a little space to grow and occasional feeding to support color and growth. With stable water conditions and a touch of patience, these frags will gradually build out into a showstopping colony.
Note: This 5-pack includes five different Favia coral frags selected by Eye Catching Coral. Each pack is chosen to provide a mix of colors and patterns, but specific varieties cannot be guaranteed. Coral selection will vary based on current availability, making every pack a little different.
Water Parameters
Corals thrive in stable water conditions with regular water changes. Corals with a hard skeleton, like this one, will consume calcium and alkalinity as they grow, often requiring additional supplementation. Routine water testing helps ensure these needs are consistently met.
- Specific Gravity (Salinity): 1.025-1.026
- Temperature: 75-78°F
- pH: 8.1-8.4

- Magnesium: 1300-1450 ppm
- Nitrate (NO3): 10-25 ppm
- Phosphate: 0.01-0.1 ppm
- Nitrite (NO2): Undetectable
- Ammonia (NH3): Undetectable
Lighting Requirements
Favia corals prefer moderate light areas of the aquarium, ideally in the 150-250 PAR range. While they can adapt to a range of lighting conditions, gradual acclimation helps preserve their vivid coloration and supports healthy polyp extension.
For those with mixed reef tanks, a PAR meter is invaluable for fine-tuning light levels across different corals, helping ensure each coral gets the right intensity.
Ideal Tank Placement
Favia corals are most often placed on rockwork, away from fast-growing or highly aggressive corals. They do well in mid to lower areas in the tank where lighting is stable and flow is gentle.
Water Flow Requirements
Low to moderate flow is ideal. Adequate water movement helps keep detritus from settling on the surface of the coral and encourages healthy tissue expansion.
Aggressiveness and Compatibility
Favia corals are semi-aggressive and should not be placed where they are in direct contact with neighboring corals. They may extend sweeper tentacles at night, so provide enough space to prevent tissue damage to nearby corals.
Feeding and Nutrition
Favia primarily rely on photosynthesis for energy, but they will benefit from occasional target feeding with small meaty foods or powdered coral blends such as Reef Chili. Supplementing with amino acids can also support polyp health and coloration.
Growth Rate and Pattern
Favia corals are steady growers and have a flat, encrusting growth pattern. Over time, they will expand across rock surfaces while developing tightly packed, colorful polyps.
Acclimation Process
Acclimation is essential for corals to adjust to their new environment. For a full step-by-step process, refer to our Coral Acclimation Guide.
