Don't have an Apex? No Problem!
The COR-20 can be connected to an Apex, but it can also be used in a standalone method, where the controller lets you have simple control over the pump like, increasing and decreasing the speed as desired. Connecting the COR-20 to an Apex Controller can unlock much more potential!
The COR pumps were built from the ground up with control in mind. Have power over everything including the CORs output percentage, real-time operational feedback, compared feed routines, pump status can all be monitored and controlled with Apex Fusion. Once the COR pump is plugged into a 1Link port, and after a couple button presses you can set the pumps flow rate and feed mode settings. By enabling IQ-Level, you can set the min and max flow rates for your aquarium.
Up to 2000GPH
The powerful COR-20 can push up to 2000 gallons per hour with an incredibly efficient head-loss curve. Each pump comes with multiple different output fittings that let you adapt the COR pumps output to match your reef tanks current plumbing size. It is suggested to use the largest 1.25" Union that is included, but it is totally fine to use the other 0.75" or 1.0" adapters if needed.
Because not all aquariums are alike, Neptune Systems included IQ-Level technology with every COR pump. Customize the minimum and maximum speed settings for your tanks plumbing to the ideal flow rate, but also the minimum flow rate for in tank flow and feed modes as well.
Neptune's COR uses the latest in Vector Control, BLDC motor technology. Driving the COR pump in a way that is super energy efficient using less than 50W at full power, and staying vibration and noise free.
Know what is going on with your pump at all times. COR pumps come loaded with features that let you monitor your aquariums "heart" giving you the chance to fix something before it fails. Saltwater aquariums are notorious for creating calcium and other mineral build up on pumps and there internal parts that can inhibit the flow but more importantly could cause damage to the pump. Neptune Fusion lets you monitor the pumps internal temperature along with its wattage draw and flow rate allowing you to set alarms and alerts if something goes out of their normal thresholds. If the temperature of the pump increases to unsafe levels, the COR will actually slow itself down until temperatures reach a safe level again, giving you time to react and maintain the pump.

Some features require Apex Controller System
Poorly made By Shirley on 6/30/2020Shirley wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI wish now I had never "upgraded" to this pump. I love my Apex, and I have moved to buy everything Apex. These pumps however are not reliable. I am on BRS right now looking for yet another power supply for yet another failed pump. I use 2 Cor20s to ensure I have a backup pump. I have a 3rd I had to buy because I now know one of these pumps can fail any day. I did a water change yesterday, turned off my return pumps, did my water change, and turned my pumps back on. Thats all it took to cause a failure in one of my 2 return pumps. Annoyed, I went to by 3rd backup, only to find out last time that power supply failed i forgot to get a replacement.
The funny part is the AC pumps I "upgraded" from lasted me 12+ years with no problem.
If these pumps werent so quiet I would hate these pumps.
3 for 3 By Benjamin on 5/6/2020Benjamin wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI provided a review approximately 7 months ago. At the time I had two of three Pumps failed in well under a year. About 3 months ago I replaced the third pump, cleaned and let sit for two months in the box. Did some re-plumbing on one of my tanks when i bought a New Apex and decided to put the COR20 on there. It was running for approximately 1 year on the frag system before swapping in. So a total of 13 months of service when the last pump failed. Checked with a New power supply (purchased to keep on hand with all the issues i had) and again dead - Cleaned it - still dead. The Pump was almost always run at or near 50%.
Experience in full: Lives: 8,13,and and 3 months months in the order the device was purchased) . Average life was 8 months. All purchased at different times. Nothing against Neptune, as I love the majority of their products i have used, but the Quality does not stand up to the name for these pumps.
Stay away By shawn on 4/20/2020shawn wouldn't recommend this product to a friendWorst pump I've ever owned. Didn't even last two years. I called Neptune and they wouldn't fix the controller or the power supply. Since it's been a year and half. I suspect the power supply is bad since the light will not turn on anymore. Neither will the controller. We tried a no name brand power supply but still nothing. Basically it's just dead paperweight. Worst warranty on the product and horrible customer service from Neptune. Never again.
Good pump, bad controller and power connection By Michael on 12/3/2019Michael wouldn't recommend this product to a friendLet me start with the good. The COR-20 pump appears well made. It’s a reasonable size. It’s heavy and seemingly constructed of strong materials. The pump is extremely quiet in my configuration. It moves plenty of water for my needs; I’m currently running with at 1%-35% min/max configuration within my ApexEL controller. I am using a ¾” return that is has about a 4’ rise from sump to top of tank. The pump was relatively easy to setup by following the online guide on the Neptune Systems website. I love having the ability to configure, tune, and monitor the pump with the Apex, this is the reason that I chose this DC pump and the feature is worth the pump’s price.
Now for the bad, there are two primary issues that I have with the COR-20. Both stem from the fact that the controller is crap. The first issue is the lack of documentation that comes with the pump. This has been mentioned in other reviews, but since there are two unmarked buttons on the controller there should AT LEAST be a one-page cheat sheet on how to use it. A redesigned controller AND documentation would be preferred.
The second and more significant issue is the power connector that connects the external power cube to the controller. It is tiny and very loose, meaning the slightest tension on the cord will pull it out of the unit and stop the pump's flow. As a critical, life sustaining component of my reef tank, this should be much, much more robust. I firmly believe that a locking connector is in order here. Maybe if you’ve worked with certain IT components, some of them use a screw-locking power connector that ensures a cord is not accidentally pulled out of a critical IT component. This should be the standard for critical components of our reef systems where life in the tank is at stake should there be a failure. I have a thought to mod my controller to improve this connector, maybe I will do so after the warranty expires.
In hindsight, I regret purchasing the COR-20 over the COR-15 for my tank. The smaller pump would have worked for my system and the 1link connector at least has a locking clip to keep the connectors together. I wanted this pump because it would work without the Apex, but the fragile connector introduces more risk than is offset by the unit's independent function, in my opinion. Yes, I can secure the wire to the mount to keep it in place, but it's just not a good connection.
I’m not recommending the pump to others because of the power connector and the cheap feel of the controller.
Buy this pump By Matt on 11/23/2019Matt would recommend this product to a friendQuiet, powerful, works with Apex. What more do you want? I have had 2 for 6 months now. Support is awesome. I thought I had a pump problem and contacted them. Long story short, it wasn't the pump at all. However, my experience with support was super positive. Don't listen to the naysayers. This pump is awesome.
DC controller board and AC power supply failed after 18 months By Tako on 11/11/2019Tako wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI really liked the power and acoustics of this pump: it’s whisper quiet, and packs a lot of power. It is also easy to program with the apex. you can map the feed mode button to perform other actions when using an apex, all of this was great. The bad part: reliability... My Cor20 was my main return pump, and after a routine power cycle during tank maintenance (18 months into service life) the pump controller board failed, it caused the AC adapter to fail, and whenever a new DC supply was connected to the pump controller it would short out and fail whenever re-connecting to the aquabus for control. Apex service department will ship you a discounted AC adapter ($25 instead of $50) if you are outside of the 12 month warranty. Still waiting to hear back on what the pump controller fix will cost. At $350 for a DC pump I expected better components in the pump controller and DC switching circuitry.
Plan to keep a backup pump or AC adapter on hand if you use this pump. 24V 5A DC supplies are not readily available. I was able to find one on amazon but it took 24 hours to source, and required a splice of the DC cords because I couldn't find one that had the same size barrel adapter.
Good Pump By Marc on 10/17/2019Marc would recommend this product to a friendI have the cor 20 running the return and refugium replacing the noisy max 12 and the cor 15 replacing the Blueline 30x for my 160gal drop down tank. My system is a lot quieter. Water movement is a lot better and now it’s controllable with the apex I have. If you think this pump is noisy or cant move water, you better check your plumbing because your doing something wrong. I have been reefing for over 30 years with multiple systems. If your pump is less noisy and has better water flow with apex flow rate control, you need to share that on R2R so we can start shopping. I am not claiming it’s the best, I’m just stating that it does what it claims. Only reason I knocked one star is because of the fittings, should come with a slip and threaded for each port. *word of advice* absolutely make sure before you glue your fittings that you triple check to make sure you can still install the threaded ring to secure it to the pump.
Poor Quality - short life expectancy By Benjamin on 10/16/2019Benjamin wouldn't recommend this product to a friendFor clarity, I am a huge fan of Neptune systems, run the apex on multiple systems, using multiple add on modules, etc.
I have used 3 different Cor 20 pumps. Functionality is awesome and tune-ability with the apex is so nice. Added second to a to a frag system 8 months ago. The first one i purchased was dead after less than 8 months of operation in my display tank. I purchased a replacement (gave it a second chance) in June. in less than 3 Months, the replacement went out. Luckily i purchased a different better quality pump to back it up, since 2 days after receiving the back up, the replacement Cor 20 died. Late night emergency swap out, with a small sump flood to clean up.
In less than i year I had two COR 20's in my primary Display tank Pumps die. Functionally these pumps are great, but entirely unreliable.
Power supply failure! By Mark on 10/13/2019Mark would recommend this product to a friendDo yourself a favor and keep a backup power brick ($50). I powered mine down to do some sump maintenance and that was the end of it. Thing always ran warmer than what I expected to be normal, so beware. No local suppliers carry power supplies so what you'll end up doing is buying a whole new pump which should be criminal. Believe me, the backup power brick will save your butt!
Buy it. By Alan on 9/9/2019Alan would recommend this product to a friendContrary to other reviews, this thing moves crazy amounts of water while running on low settings, and also does so quietly.
Running Low Perfectly (Brand New May 2019) By Jeremy on 5/14/2019Jeremy would recommend this product to a friendI am running two of these Cor20's at 10% and they produce enough flow for my 120gallon. If I crank them up to 100% they are seriously blowing some water. Plumbed with 1" pvc intake and 1 1/4" pvc output. System has only been up for a week so we will see if they last...
Reefers are entitlted By Barrett on 5/2/2019Barrett would recommend this product to a friendThis is a great pump. I have two of them. People are whiney. Buy this pump.
Do you sell replacement power supplies?
Unfortunately we do not, those are only available through Neptune.
Is there support for a backup battery with COR pumps or is a UPS your only option?
At this point, we do not know of any backup battery in development for this product. A UPS should work fine though.
Have a great day.
What is the warranty on the pump and on the power supply for the COR20?
Thank you for reaching out to us! The warranty period for the COR-20 and all of its components would be covered under a 1-year warranty. If there is anything else we can do for you let us know. Take care!
When are you expecting to receive this item in your warehouse?
Our current estimate on having the Cor 20 pumps in house is 1/10/2017. Please bear in mind that may change if there are problems with shipping.
Have a great day!
Will the core 20 be compatible with Apex classic?
The Cor series of pumps requires a 1Link connection to be controlled by an Apex. For the Apex Classic, this would require the additional purchase of a 1Link module.
Have a great day.
