Don't have an Apex? No Problem!
The COR-20 can be connected to an Apex, but it can also be used in a standalone method, where the controller lets you have simple control over the pump like, increasing and decreasing the speed as desired. Connecting the COR-20 to an Apex Controller can unlock much more potential!
The COR pumps were built from the ground up with control in mind. Have power over everything including the CORs output percentage, real-time operational feedback, compared feed routines, pump status can all be monitored and controlled with Apex Fusion. Once the COR pump is plugged into a 1Link port, and after a couple button presses you can set the pumps flow rate and feed mode settings. By enabling IQ-Level, you can set the min and max flow rates for your aquarium.
Up to 2000GPH
The powerful COR-20 can push up to 2000 gallons per hour with an incredibly efficient head-loss curve. Each pump comes with multiple different output fittings that let you adapt the COR pumps output to match your reef tanks current plumbing size. It is suggested to use the largest 1.25" Union that is included, but it is totally fine to use the other 0.75" or 1.0" adapters if needed.
Because not all aquariums are alike, Neptune Systems included IQ-Level technology with every COR pump. Customize the minimum and maximum speed settings for your tanks plumbing to the ideal flow rate, but also the minimum flow rate for in tank flow and feed modes as well.
Neptune's COR uses the latest in Vector Control, BLDC motor technology. Driving the COR pump in a way that is super energy efficient using less than 50W at full power, and staying vibration and noise free.
Know what is going on with your pump at all times. COR pumps come loaded with features that let you monitor your aquariums "heart" giving you the chance to fix something before it fails. Saltwater aquariums are notorious for creating calcium and other mineral build up on pumps and there internal parts that can inhibit the flow but more importantly could cause damage to the pump. Neptune Fusion lets you monitor the pumps internal temperature along with its wattage draw and flow rate allowing you to set alarms and alerts if something goes out of their normal thresholds. If the temperature of the pump increases to unsafe levels, the COR will actually slow itself down until temperatures reach a safe level again, giving you time to react and maintain the pump.

high price tag, low pressure By brian on 11/9/2018brian wouldn't recommend this product to a friendthis pump is nicely designed and has great feautures. however, before you go plunking down $300 on this "2000gph" pump realize that with standard return heights your going to get less than 1/2 of that flow. regardless if you use 1" or even 1 1/2" pipe. sold it.
BSPP IS a problem By Kevin on 10/3/2018Kevin wouldn't recommend this product to a friendWhile it may not be completely uncommon to use BSPP (British Standard Pipe Parallel) type threads, this does present a problem. If the fittings that are provided do not suit your needs, good luck finding alternatives. If you do, expect to pay to have it shipped from Europe. I simply need a BSPP x slip 1 1/4" adapter and it's not available. Why would you use this type thread? It seals very well under high pressure, which we all know is the case in return sump return lines <sarcasm>.
Best pump I have owned yet in this hobby By Greg on 9/1/2018Greg would recommend this product to a friendI don't have an Apex yet. But I needed a new pump. Got this one because I might get an Apex for Christmas if I am good to the wifey. I replaced an Eheim with this pump and I can't believe the difference in both flow and sound. And, I don't understand what the prior reviewer was complaining about. Many pumps don't come with the exact fitting you need. This pump came with a US 3/4" output fitting that I just adapted my existing flexible plumbing to fit.
More Plumbing information needed on specs By David on 8/31/2018David would recommend this product to a friendThe star rating is for BRS not the pump itself. It should be clearly stated on your specs that the options for outlet plumbing are either 3/4" female slip fitting or 1 1/4" female slip fitting. With the "what's included" section of the specifications it makes it sound like 1" slip fittings are included but that is only for the suction side of the pump. I paid big bucks to have it overnighted as my main return pump failed just to not have the fitting that would make it work. And of course the blue and the orange big box near me were out of the 1 1/4" to 1" bushing to connect to my plumbing. If I would have known I would have ordered right from BRS rather than driving around for 20 miles to find the bushing.
Missing a critical component By Thomas on 8/26/2018Thomas wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI bought this "intelligent: return pump intending to use it as a, you know, return pump. For that application, I think most of us use a flexible hose to connect back u to the tank, to minimize vibration. That requires a barb fitting on the pump. This pump comes with all sorts of lovely fitting hardware, but NO BARB. Is that intelligent? And because the connectors are not U.S. standard, you can't just march over to Home Depot to get the missing piece.
Does anyone know of a barb connector that will fit this pump?
Failed after 2 weeks of use By Patrick on 8/18/2018Patrick wouldn't recommend this product to a friendAfter 2 weeks of use the pump failed showing internal temperature issues. I'm going through the typical process of jumping through hoops with Neptune and sending them all sorts of pictures and videos which is a waste of time as this is not an issue I can fix myself. Last week I would have given this thing 5 stars as it's quiet and moves water well. Depending on the replacement process I may update this but as of right now I'm not happy.
Great return pump. By BigBossReefer on 8/17/2018BigBossReefer would recommend this product to a friendThis pump is super quiet and strong enough for a 175 gal tank at 100%. Keep in mind the actual GPH is much different than stated, at 4.5 FT of head with three 90 degree bends I am only getting 540 GPH max. I’d expect to get this flow with most pumps in this range. It’s more than adequate for its purpose, you should rely on achieving very high flow with powerhead/wave-makers. Also, absolutely do not get the control module wet, protect it at all costs and keep it away from anything that may splash it. I learned the hard and expensive way.
Disappointed By Jason on 7/23/2018Jason wouldn't recommend this product to a friendSo since I took it out of the box it has been trouble, I expected better from my first apex product. I have been in this hobby for 14 years and have never had a pump be so troublesome out of the box. This was to be a replacement external return pump on my 300, to replace a Vectra L1 that melted down after 2 years running at 50-60%. Tested it in a sink of water first, would not run so I took it apart to check for packaging obstructions and found poor trimming from the manufacturing process, had to sand down the inlet to get max input flow, 1/8th inch jagged edge into intake area. Next After reassembly the tolerances are so tight in this pump that finger tight is too tight to allow it the pump to run. To get it to run properly I needed to allow a gap in the housing, any tighter and it gives a fault. Which by the way are not included in the directions, had to find it online. Hooking it up is another issue, they only send you one of the connections you need for max performance. they should send both and allow the end user to decide what works best for their set up, especially since it uses British connections. try finding that in a local hardware store let alone a big box store, good thing one of the the connections from my Vectra matched and I had enough pipe to move connection points. Once installed the faults started all over again. After 2 hours of attempts finally got it running as expected. Now 2 weeks later, doing a water change, the fun with faults are starting over again, the pump wont Start. Now I need to totally drain my sump system to get my return pump out and take it apart again to try to get it to run, I need an extra supply of water to do this. It is quiet as expected and I do Like the display, I had been planning on upgrading to an Apex controller from the Reef Keeper, now I'm not so sure. I expected a lot better quality control from the "premier" manufacturer, that has kept me away due to cost.
First product I ever gave a 5 star rating By Brian on 4/27/2018Brian would recommend this product to a friendI tried both the ecotech M1 (not enough power) and L1 (too much heat) before I bought the COR20. Cannot find anything wrong with it, quiet, powerful, great price, small footprint, calibrates easy, installs easy and works with apex of course. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about it and I plan to buy another one in the future just in case I need a backup someday. two ecotechs for sale! lol
Solid DC pump - great Apex integration By MplsP on 4/25/2018MplsP would recommend this product to a friendI've had my COR 20 for about 3 months now and it's a solid pump. At similar flow rates, power and noise are virtually identical to a Varios 6. Setup is very easy and the Apex integration is great; it's much easier to program than a standard DC controllable pump.
As mentioned above, these pumps use BSPP (British Standard Parallel Pipe) threads. They are not the only manufacturer to use them, but it's incredibly annoying, as finding replacements is virtually impossible in the U.S. I highly recommend putting a union after the connection so you can easily swap it out if necessary.
A Good Pump By Derik on 4/23/2018Derik would recommend this product to a friendFor the past 18 months, I have been running two Ecotech Vectra M1’s. Over the course, Ecotech replaced two of those pumps for failure. I couldn’t live with that level of reliability so I decided to try the COR. While I was waiting for the COR to arrive, I ran a REEFLO Dart hybrid for about two weeks. I have my return externally plumbed to my sump.
THE BAD: The pump I received had a bad 1” adapter, it would NOT accept a 1” pipe. I contacted Neptune Systems and they sent me a new adapter via USPS but, the brand-new pump was not usable for almost a week. The pump uses non-standard British threads so you cannot roll down to your local hardware store and get fittings. I had problems getting the unions to seal, I had to use an absurd amount of plumber’s tape to get them to seal – good thing I use an equally absurd number of unions in my plumbing so taking the pump out was not terribly difficult.
THE GOOD: The pump is quiet; my Vertex skimmer makes more noise than the COR. The COR uses half the power of my Reeflo Dart. I have the pump set at a constant 85% and it is pulling 70W and moving a combined total of about 850 GPH split as 400 GPH to my return (5-foot vertical raise), 250 GPH to my chiller and 200 GPH to my UV. If I were doing just my returns, I could easily run this at 35% and cut the power usage by more than half.
FINAL THOUGHTS: I’m happy with the COR-20 and I would recommend it to anyone. Hopefully it will be more reliable than the Vectra, only time will tell. I think the pump generates more than enough flow. I had no expectations of seeing 2000 GPH given my 1” plumbing requirements and 5-foot raise to my display. The pump has a small foot print; not as small as the Vectra M1 but, MUCH less than the Reeflo. I like that it integrates into Apex Fusion, I can use a single piece of software to get notifications on my phone and feed my fish. I would have given this 5 stars were it not for the nonsense with the adapter. I’m glad that Neptune sent me a replacement but, they should have overnight shipped that to me given this is there new flagship pump and the error was clearly on their end not mine.
Good for the money By Nathan on 4/20/2018Nathan would recommend this product to a friendLet me start off by saying that I really like this pump. If you want to get full power out of it though you have to run the full size pipe, or else you will not be anywhere close to to what you expect. That is true of most pumps though. I have this pump on a reefer 450 and ran 1/25" hard pipe until the 3/4" nipple the tank is plumbed for and then dropped to 3/4". I am only getting about 400 gpm according to the neptune flow sensors I have. This lines up with data other people are seeing from the M1 and other similarly sized pumps so its not off. I know on the 1.25" plumbing I would be closer to 1000gpm.
The pump is on my apex and it is great to be able to reduce the flow during feed modes which keeps my tank from spitting water everywhere at startup. It also ramps up over a few seconds rather than just blasting. I will be buying another one of these pumps for my other tank. It is VERY quite and priced well. It also helped reduce my heat so that my fan is running a lot less over my Sicce Silent pump.
Is there support for a backup battery with COR pumps or is a UPS your only option?
At this point, we do not know of any backup battery in development for this product. A UPS should work fine though.
Have a great day.
When are you expecting to receive this item in your warehouse?
Our current estimate on having the Cor 20 pumps in house is 1/10/2017. Please bear in mind that may change if there are problems with shipping.
Have a great day!
Will the core 20 be compatible with Apex classic?
The Cor series of pumps requires a 1Link connection to be controlled by an Apex. For the Apex Classic, this would require the additional purchase of a 1Link module.
Have a great day.
