Compatible with aquariums up to 1/2"
Max Flow - 2300 GPH
With the unique flow patterns of the Gyre pumps, you do not have to worry nearly as much about positioning and aquascaping design. The Gyres crossflow technology allows for a gentle, evenly distributed flow that considerably helps removes dead spots in the tank making them perfect for frag tanks, and shallow lagoon-style aquariums.
Recommended for aquariums up to 100+ gallons
- Super-Silent magnetic mounting
- Longer, more durable cable
- Linear flow
- Add-on pump for Advanced Gyre Controller
Single Gyre Pump only, controller required for operation (not included.)
In most cases when choosing a powerhead, you will look into a bulky and intrusive propeller style powerhead that leaves dead spots in corners and makes you limited in coral placement due to the sheer force of the flow they need to produce. The Gyre pumps use crossflow technology to help evenly distribute the current throughout the tank without creating a single concentrated point of flow. Since the sheet of water that it produces makes a "gyre" flow pattern that is very efficient and gentle giving you more coral placement and aquascaping options. The design of the Gyre body and silent suspension mounting system keeps the entire package very low profile and super quiet.
The new Advanced Gyre Controller (not included) now lets you couple up to two Gyre pumps together off a single power supply. The two connected pumps can run in sync, anti-sync, or a couple of other modes giving you more control over the output. It now also lets you set a full 24-hour flow cycle without the need to connect to a third party controller.
If you choose not to set your own custom flow cycle, Maxspect also expertly programmed a couple of 24-hour cycles, like Lunar Tidal Cycle (LTC) or the Oceanic Gyre Cycle (OGC). On top of all of that Maxspect added new flow patterns too, like Random and Gradual Pulsing mode in addition to the traditional Constant, Pulse, and Alternating Gyre modes.

Excellent circulation but cleaning is a pain By K on 8/24/2018K would recommend this product to a friendI am using one controller to power two of these pumps in two different 29 gal tanks in the OGC mode. Works very well. Only con that I have for this pump is that it is very, very difficult to break down for cleaning. Highly recommend to follow the once per month maintenance cleaning recommended by manufacturer. Any longer and you may find the motor block door very difficult to extract without a good soaking in vinegar and water. I have had to replace the armature just recently because I broke one of the spindles when my needle nose pliers slipped trying to get the motor block door out.
Customer service at CoralVue Is amazing! I have never had an issue that they have not resolved with speed and professionalism. Below are the instructions that I received from CoraView on how to break down a recalcitrant motor block for cleaning:
Just an FYI, if you go to the Maxspect site, this is not the instructions that they provide.
Don't try to pull the shaft out with pliers, it will only damage the parts. You can remove it by tapping it on a tabletop or hard surface...
The best way to remove the shaft from the motor is to first remove the propeller bushings and then hold the motor block in your hand with the "M" in the Maxspect logo closest to the tabletop. Tap the end of the white motor block shaft on a table top until it starts to push the motor block door out of the other end of the motor block. You can hit it pretty hard a few times and then you should see it start to move. Keep tapping until the motor block door gives way and you can pull the shaft out.
I have used this method once and it worked. I will be trying again very soon.
Should have bought bigger By Buy bigger run slower on 3/23/2018Buy bigger run slower would recommend this product to a friendThese are great pumps, I love the amount of water flow they can produce at full power. i'm using 2 of the FX230 pumps. It was easy to assemble and the lengthy cords 10 feet on the pumps was refreshing. However, I'm finding that In this hobby BIGGER is always better, and with these pumps it's definitely the case. I have a 116 gallon corner tank and I find I have to run these pumps at 60 to 70 percent power all the time to get the right flow. However anything above 45 to 50 percent power means a lot of noise from the motors on these pumps. I wish I could just buy the bigger pumps and run them slower, unfortunately you have to buy a new controller and the pumps. That makes this a very big expense. With today's technology, that had to be some sort of planned "How do we get more money out of this hobby" designing a controller that can step-up or step-down power seems like a no brainer even if the cost was slightly higher for the controller.
Service has been excellent, mine came with a bad controller, it ran the pumps but the display didn't work. A quick email to support with pictures and they sent me a new controller in just a couple of days. It's always refreshing to find a company that responds promptly to a customer issue, Thanks Support...
I've been using my Gyro's for about a year now and they work as well today as the day I installed them. I've cleaned them completely twice in the time I've had them and had no issues. They run about 22 hours a day due to feeding's of the fish or corals in my tank. Programming them was a HUGE EFFORT, the small display and the multitude of options you have to scroll through makes it difficult to keep track of where you are in the programing for anything more then just one setting. Options are of no use if they are difficult to setup. The first 3-months I just used the built-in programs, then I finally sat down and took a couple of hours to write out the flow pattern I wanted and then pushed all those buttons a thousand times to get the controller set right. I KNOW... your going to say a Neptune controller could resolve all that programing easily and I have one but its installed on the sump which is downstairs and it runs the basic stuff like top off, salinity, PH etc... But it's DOWNSTAIRS!!! So the pumps are connected through Alexa so when it's time to feed the fish or corals the wife who does the feeding can just say "Alexa... Time to feed the fish" and Alexa turns off the skimmer and the main pump and the power heads all in the right sequence, then turns them back on after a preset delay, again, in the right sequence and she can do that from anywhere in the house.
OK so this was a lengthy review, but I hate reviews that are two words or someone thats had the product for a few weeks or a month and says it great or the worst thing they have purchased. Lets face it we all want to know if your still using it 9-months to a year after you installed the product and do you still recommend getting said product. Thats a big YES but get BIGGER...
Great Flow By Marcus on 3/21/2017Marcus would recommend this product to a friendI have two these in my 90 gallon, they put out a lot flow, bit noisy but not too bad.
Amazing pump By Robert on 2/18/2017Robert would recommend this product to a friendI bought this pump to attach to the new Advanced Controller as a slave. All I can say is amazing! I'm running the two pumps in a 24 hour preset mode on the new controller. My fish and corals love the gyre motion! Great Product!
