Going from the top of the Reefer system down to the bottom, the first thing you will notice is the crystal clear glass and elegant beveled edges. The second thing you may or may not notice is the slim overflow that houses all the drain and return plumbing to keep the water a constant level within the display tank and surface skimming while being super quiet and taking up a very small amount of real estate inside of the tank. The return nozzle is fully adjustable for to direct the flow where you need it, and the dual drain system keeps overflows from happening like a single drain design may encounter. The dual drain design has one main drain that includes a diaphragm valve for easy tuning and adjustments. The other drain is completely open to flow directly down into the sump in the event that the main drain gets clogged. If plumbing is one of the reasons why you have never wanted to install a tank with a sump don’t worry as Red Sea has done all the planning for you and there is no gluing needed to assemble and seal all the plumbing.
The sump includes a filter sock holder and sock to keep large pieces of debris and detritus from clogging pumps and other pieces of equipment. The water can then flow from the filter sock into the skimmer compartment where the water will keep a steady level to aid in the best performance in your choice of skimmer or any other filtration components that you choose to include can be placed there. The water will then flow through the final bubble trap and into the final chamber where the return pump (not included) can be placed to pump water back through the Reefer tanks return plumbing.
Integrated Top Off
When water starts to evaporate all Reefer systems include an integrated top off system and reservoir that can hold a few days worth of top off water to keep the water level, salinity and flow rates consistent throughout the tank.

Could not be more happy with this aquarium By Randall on 8/28/2017Randall would recommend this product to a friendI bought a Reefer 450 about 6 months ago, my first new tank purchase in many years. I needed a setup where virtually everything could be concealed in the cabinet and yet support a very high bioload mixed reef environment. I could not be more pleased with this purchase. The tank itself is super solid, beautifully built, and the glass crystal clear and perfect. The overflow is brilliantly designed and absolutely silent when adjusted properly (not hard to do). The sump sits behind the left two doors and is efficiently designed. I have the heaters in the first sump compartment, with skimmer, reactor and small fuge in the main sump compartment; I could add another device if needed. The ATO reservoir lasts about 4 days for me; ymmv. The sump comes with an ATO float valve which works fine, although I've superceded it with an electronic ATO. I keep all the electronics behind the right door: Neptune Apex, multiple Apex modules, Ecotech and MaxSpect pump controllers, ozonizer, battery backup, etc. Plenty of room and not particularly crowded at that. Two dosers are mounted over the sump in the left compartment. Only items outside the aquarium cabinet are two discrete dosing containers, an air pump, and an air dryer. I may even get around to creating a shelf and putting all that in the right compartment as well.
Even in the few months I've had this system set up, a variety of other pieces of equipment and products have failed or been less than satisfactory. This Red Sea aquarium, sump and stand have been perfect since day one. I can't speak about customer service, since I haven't had to use it. :)
worth every penny! By Nick on 4/21/2017Nick would recommend this product to a friendfirst off, i too had to wait like Carmel but even with the delays here and there... id do it all over again and again. i absolutely love this tank, it sits in my living room so the modern clean look is highly appreciated. one thing i quickly noticed with this tank verses any other mass produced setup, you absolutely get what you pay for.
the only drawbacks i have personally are i wish the seams had a protective plastic like the reef savvy tanks and the return nozzle... when you're cranking 1,000+gph through this puppy its like a fire hose so you're going to have an unbalanced sand bed in the center of the tank. with that being said... that leaves room to tinker! there are splitters out there that Y off and you can add locline to or just keep the Y.
again to piggy back off Carmel, get ready to spend some loot on the accessories. the float switch and RO reservoir will get you by, but if you have a high flow tank you're going to burn through the 3 gallons quickly and the float switch does get gummed up so a constant cleaning on that prevents a battle with the tuning dial. BRS nailed it with their recommendation on return pumps as well. i tried both, the sicce 5.0 was AMAZING but of course i had to get the Vectra M1 when it debuted which has proven to be quite a workhorse as well.
all in all, you won't be disappointed in the least with this setup as long as you understand you're going to have to pony up some dough to get it running.
Excellent quality! Veri impressed! The tank is heavy you wil need 2-3 people.. By chris on 12/13/2015chris would recommend this product to a friendto lift it. The 450 gives the new rimless look and modern design. It took 8 days to have mine delivered and I paid $1,869(black Friday) so if you really want one, wait till then or pay a premium. I also got 2 kessil 360 w e along with a apex controller. Bio spira for quick cycle along with my live rock/sand from previous reef. I would think twice about a reefer 350 or 250 as you will want the 450 sooner or later.
GO RED SEA! By Carmel on 12/10/2015Carmel would recommend this product to a friendI purchased this tank back in March of 2015...and waited til July when it arrived due to mass purchasing and shipping delays....Totally worth the wait. I have had a ball choosing the "accessories" ie skimmer, pumps, power heads, lights..and making my own mesh top to evade fish escape!
The fully integrated system makes things really easy...I like the top off, the size of the sump, and the extra space on the right cabinet to assemble the computer brain in a separate place away from potential water hazards!
The only draw back Ive had, is the socks have to be changed every two to three days, but they really do help polish the water. The tank comes with A SINGLE pair of 200 micron felt socks, which are a special fit to the reefer...I purchased 4 more pairs and 5 more pairs of the new 225 micron felt socks to make cleaning easier.
All in all...its a great purchase...just plan to spend the amount of the tank and then some in "accessories" and play toys and then throw in the fish!...Sounds like a typical tank to me! HAY BRS! Can you carry the socks please!!!
Awesome! By Adestafi on 11/26/2015Adestafi would recommend this product to a friendJust add a pump, some power heads and lights and you are ready!! Ultra quiet overflow, sump is perfect size and there's additional storage space under cabinet
