Product Questions

I'm considering the aquatic life aquatic life t5/led 60" fixture. Would it be better to use like 5 a160 vs. 3 a360. The tank is 72lx24wx20d. Thank you
Question by: Ray Penniston on Jan 23, 2018, 6:12 PM
That is a great question, and a hard answer to be honest. If you plan on keeping a lot of coral that require high amounts of light the A360's would be the better choice since you can always add more units down the line if you need them. If your tank will be mostly LPS, soft coral, and just a few SPS then a handful of A160 lights would work well. Most people here at BRS would probably pick the A360 lights over the A160 units.

Would i be able to keep a mixed reef tank with just one of these in a jbj 30 gallon rl?
Question by: Vincent Taylor on Jun 28, 2016, 10:22 AM
Great question!
These have a 24" x 24" maximum spread and will work well with mixed reef tanks.
Answer by: Connor on Jun 28, 2016, 6:01 PM
Do you think two a160we's would provide enough intensity and spread to keep a mixed reef (sps up top, lps lower) in an IM Fusion Lagoon 25 (24l x 20w x 12tall)? I'm considering them over a single a360we for increased coverage, but how do you think two a160s compare to a single a360 in terms of intensity? Thank you for you time and help!
Question by: Erik Andersson on Jun 6, 2018, 11:58 AM
Hi Erik,

Great question!

I am currently running a lagoon tank here at the office with a mix of SPS, LPS, and softies and think that would be a great lighting setup for this tank.

The output of two A160's is likely a little lower than a single A360 but you will have better coverage and less wasted light, provided you don't mount them too high.

The goosenecks with 90-degree adapters or A-series mounting arms should be perfect.

I'm starting my 46g bowfront soon and want to run softies and LPS, would this be enough light for my tank?
Question by: Jeffrey on Jan 6, 2017, 6:55 PM
Great question! Unfortunately, that single A160 will not be enough light, both in PAR and in spread. At a minimum, I would recommend two of these A160s which still may be a bit under powered. Otherwise, two A360 Tuna will be a perfect fit! :-)
Answer by: Randy on Jan 10, 2017, 1:15 PM
If I buy the Kessil 160 does it come with the mounting bracket or do I have to buy it separately?? Thanks
Question by: Jason Churchill on Mar 13, 2018, 6:17 PM
Thanks for contacting BRS!
That light will not include the mounting bracket, unfortunately. This gooseneck would work well to mount it to tanks 1.25" thick and less: https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/mini-a-series-gooseneck-kessil.html

Have a great day!

I'm going to set up a 10gallon tank with mostly soft and LPS corals would this light be ideal?
Later I will be going to a 40 gallon breeder would I just need to add another light for this?
Thanks
Question by: tim on Jun 21, 2016, 8:38 AM
Great question!
This will be a perfect fit and well recommended for both the current 10 gallon. This will work great in the future 40 gallon as well!
Answer by: Connor on Jun 21, 2016, 12:17 PM
2 of these for a IM 20 nuvo or 2 a80s , I want to keep a mixed reef tank
Question by: Luis on Aug 28, 2017, 11:16 PM
Hey there,
Thanks for getting in touch with us in regards to lighting on your IM 20G. I personally would go with the two A80s for this tank. I have kept a A80 on a IM 10G aquarium with insane results. I am able to even keep a deresa clam alive and happy under one. Please let me know if there is anything else that we can assist with. Thanks!

I am adding a small refugium to my sump. I have 2 of these 160's that I am not using right now. My LFS is telling me that I cannot use one of these for the refuge because It is too strong. Do I have to buy a new light?
Question by: Karie on Feb 5, 2020, 11:12 AM
Hey there,

The issue would not be with the power of the light but the spectrum. It is just not correct for growing plant life. You are looking for a red spectrum with a tiny bit of blue. I suggest the A160 Tuna Flora instead
Answer by: Thomas Billington on Feb 5, 2020, 2:33 PM
would 3 A160we be enough for a mixed reef 75gallon?
Question by: darryl on Dec 10, 2016, 11:00 PM
Great question! The A160s will be far too under powered for proper light penetration and spread for that size of tank. These are geared more towards nano sized tanks up to 40-50gals. I would recommend at least two of the A360s instead. :-)
Answer by: Randy on Dec 21, 2016, 6:59 PM
Could i put this on a jbj 30 gallon RL? Could it handle sps? Thanks.
Question by: Vincent on Jun 24, 2016, 11:01 AM
You could install this over a tank of that size, however the spread and power will probably not be enough to cover your entire tank nor meet the high PAR needs of SPS. :-)
