Sturdy By Robert on 12/1/2019Robert would recommend this product to a friendSo I dont know if the image is old, but my mount that came looks nothing like it. Anyways, the one I recieved is very stable on my rimless tank.
Great arm but wait for new mounting bracket By Andy Aquariums on 9/12/2019Andy Aquariums would recommend this product to a friendAs others have noted, this is unstable on rimmed tanks. The flexible arm is great, but the bracket is simply not sturdy on your standard Aqueon/Marineland tank.
Fortunately, AI is aware of the problem and is making a new bracket to install with the goose arm that works perfectly. I got my hands on one early and it works great.

For such awesome lights... By Chrisoahu on 7/9/2018Chrisoahu wouldn't recommend this product to a friendFor such awesome lights, you'd figure they could put something together that made more sense. The goose neck is not easy to manipulate, might as well be the 90 degree fixed bracket. I have this currently on my rimless cube... I've always been worried about the glass cracking at the mount, the light falling forward and blowing out the front of the tank. Really bad reviews on most of the AI brackets, no?
I just setup a large tank and was going to get some hydras for it, but can find a good mount setup for my rimmed tank that doesn't cost the equivalent as one light from these guys... Hope to find something after market, so I don't have to change my plans.
Worked well for my rimless tank By James on 6/10/2018James would recommend this product to a friendThis arm worked great for my rimless tank and looks nice, its very sturdy and quite heavy. Would give 5 stars but its way over priced.
Clamp is useless on a rimmed tank By JR on 3/10/2018JR wouldn't recommend this product to a friendHonestly for the price AI is charging for these things they could've designed the clamp to be far more universal. The clamp catches on the inner lip of a rimmed tank and will not attach properly. The heavy neck and weighty nature of the Hydras make the whole thing completely useless. AI makes incredible lights but they need more user friendly accessories if they want to keep the good things they have going. If you have a rimmed tank either get the ceiling mount or the rail mount.
AI Prime By Jordan on 9/25/2017Jordan wouldn't recommend this product to a friendIf this mount were like the gooseneck mounts for the AI Prime, would get it in a heartbeat. This particular mount for the Hydra sucks and I will be returning this and my Hydra for two AI Primes. Wish it had worked better because I like the clean look of running just one light versus having to run two. Oh well...
Bad & Hard to Use By P on 8/1/2017P wouldn't recommend this product to a friendBad product. It's not convenient to use and has lots of problems. First they have a very narrow selection of tanks they are compatible with. Second it's unnecessarily heavy which will put a lot of weight onto the side of your tank. Third the contact area is really tiny so not just a lot of weight onto the glass but also a lot of pressure applied to 2 tiny dots. Fourth, it's unnecessarily complicated for a small thing like this and for the width they give you if your aquarium has a rim or if you are trying to put it on a piece of wood it's either very difficult or impossible.
bad design By sano on 5/12/2017sano wouldn't recommend this product to a friendDoesnt work unless you have a rimless tank
Minimalist mount for Hydra By Lauren on 4/16/2017Lauren would recommend this product to a friendI bought this for my IM Nuvo 40g tank which is rimless. I wanted a clean look with hidden cords and that's exactly what I received. Its extremely strong and stable, but easy enough to bend into position when installing (which was also super easy). I love that it has cord clips to keep all wiring out of sight. Overall very well made and does exactly what I want it to do. I definitely agree it probably wouldn't fit well on a tank with a rim, but other than that, there is nothing wrong with this flex arm mount that would warrant a low review.
Only good for rimless tanks. By Clay on 1/30/2017Clay wouldn't recommend this product to a friendWell built product, just not well thought out. This would be sweet for a rimless tank. Anything with a rim, you'll either have to cut notches into the plastic or flip it around. Aqua Illumination recommended flipping it around, but it still didn't work on a standard 40 gallon breeder. Better off doing something DIY or finding another option.
The arm itself is stiff, which is nice because it accommodates for the weight of the light fixture. I will not recommend for someone that has a rimmed aquarium.
This doesn't fit tanks with a rim By Nick on 1/12/2017Nick wouldn't recommend this product to a friendThe 2 screws that tighten the clamp down to the tank have these little rotating/swivel heads on them where they contact the tank side. If you refer to the pic you can see two 90-degree elbows on water side of the side of the tank. These don't allow for any adjustment so if you have a rim on your tank there wont be full contact along those arms. The weight of the lamp just makes these clamps slide right off. In addition, those 90 degree arms slide into a 3rd piece using an allen bolt and a hex nut. While tightening it down the hex nut started spinning inside the carrier so I wasn't able to tighten it very well. The last complaint is the metal bit that slides onto the hydra lamp itself; I was very very careful to slide the clamp on slowly but it still managed to mare the surface of the lamp's matte finish.
The flexible mounting bar looks really cool and is very stiff so I think these would work really well if I had the right application. If you have a rimless tank, these might work for you which is why I'm giving this a 2 star and not a 1 star.
