- Hydra 32 HD LED Reef Light - White Body - Aqua Illumination
More Color, More Spread, More Power, and More Refined
A new generation of Aqua Illumination Hydra lighting is here! The Hydra 32 HD has been redesigned making the reef lights more efficient with better aesthetics. The Hydra Lights have been a staple in the reefing community for years and the new Hydra 32 HD Lights take the same great features and benefits while using more efficient hardware that ultimately gives better light and spread throughout your aquarium.
- Easy Control with the MyAI App
- More LEDs
- More PAR
- More Spread
- Improved Optic Design
- Improved Water Resistance
- Thinner Form Factor
- Multiple Mounting Options
- Dedicated Moonlight Channel
- Wider Spectrum (more channels)
Redesigning the plastics in the Prime and Hydra lineup has resulted in two major benefits: better efficiency and better aesthetics. Efficiency improvements reduce the demands on active cooling for longer component life. Improvements to design thin the fixtures and reduce their profile and presence over your aquarium.
Water-resistance is a major benefit in aquarium lighting - and while the new Prime and Hydras are not waterproof, design improvements make them more capable of facing the moisture-rich adventures of reef keeping.
A dedicated moonlight LED and channel has been added in the new Prime HD, Prime FW, Hydra 32HD and Hydra 64HD modules. This allows for independent moonlighting designed to simulate the natural lunar color and intensity.
Control on the lights will use the existing myAI® app which is free, simple and very quick to a program offering onsite direct BLE connection through your smart device. Additional control options may become available for the new generation Prime and Hydras over time.

Optics and Output
Output in terms of PAR, color mixing and spread are all improved with the new fixtures. The incorporation of more LEDs results in a more targeted full-spectrum, TIR lenses shape the light’s output and improve its efficiency. The result is more color POP as well as a slightly wider output area and higher average PAR. A combination LED placement and lens geometry blend the light from the clusters so that color separation is further reduced.
Mounting hardware as previously available for Hydra and Prime fixtures will work with
the new version lights. The exception is the Hydra-Flex arm which will require a different light bracket due to the size difference in the new fixtures. The Flex arm bracket will change with the new fixtures. Older flex arms being used to mount the new lights will need a new light bracket.

Tuning Your New LED Light
Most LED lights will actually put out more light than your corals will actually need and without a PAR Meter to test the overall output, it is really hard to guess if the light is too dim or intense. We highly suggest using a PAR Meter to test the output of your lights at different points throughout your tank that you can use to tune the lights output or know where to put specific corals.
Stunning By Colter on 6/25/2020Colter would recommend this product to a friendI have two Red Sea reef led 50’s on another tank and bought my first hydra 32 to try on my frag tank and wow. I’m impressed with the variations and control of this light as well as the output. The Red Sea app is better IMO but I love how this one tells you how much wattage you’re running and the channel variation. Worked great out of box and looks killer over the tank as well as emitting beautiful spectrums of light that are visually appealing.
Very Satisfied with the Hydra 32 By Scot on 6/2/2020Scot would recommend this product to a friendI'm new to reefing and was unsure which light to go with with all the good and bad reviews. I was thinking the Kessil, Radion, T5 fixture or Hydra. I'm so glad I choose Hydra 32. I ordered 3 Hydra 32 for my Red Sea 350. Once I got all 3 up and running I noticed that 1 of the Hydra 32 was slightly a different color mainly on the ramp up and ramp down. So I contacted AI support and after a few calls and resetting the lights it was still not the same color so AI support sent me a new light and I had to sent the old light back. The new light was the same color as the other 2 and the problem was fixed. AI support was very good and more than willing to help with the problem. The lights look amazing and I.m very satisfied. Also after reading about the disco effect I was a little concerned buying the Hydra 32 but I don't even notice any disco effects. Also all my lights worked out of the box.
Driver Fault but EASY FIX By William on 3/24/2020William would recommend this product to a friendI bought 2 of these, both came out of the box with a driver fault. EASY Fix take a T15 Star bit and open the cover (4 screws) press the Black board that is in between the LED's down (it gets loose during shipping Supposedly) Screw the screws back in. FIXED!
I decided to set up each light separately NOT recommended. Why? Because the 2nd light wont connect to the assigned aquarium, you have to name a second aquarium and connect to it. EASY FIX! if you have more than on light plug all the lights in and set up together, if you are like me, delete all lights and start over.
Why only 4 STARS??? Because for this kind of money I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO DO THIS!!!!!
Worked perfectly fine By Stephen on 2/27/2020Stephen would recommend this product to a friendI have read reviews that suggest removing the casing and ensuring the wire is snug, I didn’t have to do this though. Great product. Fits my 20g innovative marine from BRS and I have zero dead zones.
Driver fault is not your fault!!! By jayden on 1/6/2020jayden wouldn't recommend this product to a friendwhy am I reading every review saying these 360$ lights come not working. I was sent one as a replacement for the first I got which also had a drive fault so they told me to open it and try to fix it my self like I had any idea on what to do... the main board wasn’t plugged in on both... both were fixed in a matter of seconds. This is a manufacturing problem someone doesn’t know how to do a simple task of plugging a mother board pins in all the way till they click. I was told this probably happened during shipping and I probably just have bad luck. NO you have someone putting these together that doesn’t know what they are doing and your customers and your reputation is suffering because of it. If I wanted a diy light kit I would have bought one instead I purchased a unit that was supposed to work out of the box. These lights are incredible and deliver so much power that they’re almost overkill. The quality and design of this light shouldn’t be compromised because someone doesn’t know how to do their job. I really hope you guys post this review before this stresses me out a lot the light was a replacement for a broke 26 so sitting around waiting for it to come in working condition just meant longer the corals had to go without light
AI’s repair service By David on 12/23/2019David would recommend this product to a friendI recently sent in 2 Hydra 26 lights that I have had for over 10 years. Both ended up with driver issues which seems to be a common problem with the new Hydra32’s and the Hydra26HD. Mine we’re both 1st gen that uses the director but 10 years without an issue was pretty good . The best part was AI’s service. They couldn’t fix either light so they offered me a 40% discount on the new 32’s which was awesome as I was going to have to replace them anyways. I also had a Hydra26 HD that was only 3 years old that also had an issue with the driver. It was out if warranty but they still fixed it for free. They are expensive lights but are also amazing lights as well and their customer service is excellent. I would highly recommend these lights because they do stand behind their products
DOA- and mount no compatible with new hydra 32 By jimmy on 11/16/2019jimmy would recommend this product to a friendAs other reviewers have expressed, mine arrived with the "driver fault" indicator. Additionally, the mounting arm for this unit (the one designed for the hydra 26) does not allow you to hide the cord. The new hydra 32 has a thicker power cable and it does not fit inside the arm. Instead, you are provided with plastic retaining clips to secure the cable to the outside of the mounting arm and over the back of your tank. Since the cable mounts on the underside of the arm, it is visible at ever angle and drape over the back of tank as if it were mounted inside the tank. Unacceptable. On AI's website, they show the mounting arm with the new hydra 32, but it is the stock image from the older light, when it actually recessed within the arm. They dont show you the true mounting configuration with the fat cable draped over your tank. I would still recommend this light, because I know it is a good light, but they need to work out the bugs. For now, my experience is 1 star. To their credit, they promptly replaced the DOA light. BRS did not honor their 30 day send it back guarantee. The gentleman on the phone (which i notified one day after arrival) said I needed to deal with the manufacturer since it was a manufacturer defect. After I pushed back, he conceded "well you could send it back to us, but it is going to take a really long time to go through all of that. you would be better off just going through the manufacturer." Amazon or nearly any other retailer would have apologized to me, immediately shipped a replacement, provided a shipping label, and I would have been up and running in 48hrs.
Not working day one By jayden on 10/15/2019jayden wouldn't recommend this product to a friendJust got this as a replacement for my 26 that stopped working and out of the box flashing red/teal indicator lights. This means “Driver fault. Contact support” so basically this 360$ light is useless out of the box
Would one be good for 40 breeder or 75 gal?
The amount of light you need for you tank is going to depend on what corals you wish to keep.
1 Hydra 32 for your 40 gal and 2 for your 75 may work but I encourage you to check out of video on the subject to give you an idea of how much light you can expect. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQ_1yQiNIdc&t
