Overview
The Green Slimer Acropora is a classic. Known for its intense neon green coloration and thick, fast-growing branches, this hardy SPS coral adds instant impact to any tank. Under blue and white light, its glowing green hue truly "slimes" its way into the spotlight, making it one of the most recognizable Acros in the hobby.
Its growth is upright and robust, forming dense vertical branches that can quickly become a dominant feature in your reef. The Green Slimer is often recommended for SPS beginners because of its relative resilience, yet it's still a staple in even the most advanced coral collections.

Water Parameters
This coral thrives in stable water conditions with regular water changes. Corals with a hard skeleton, like this one, will consume calcium and alkalinity as they grow, often requiring additional supplementation. Routine water testing helps ensure these needs are consistently met.
- Specific Gravity (Salinity): 1.024-1.026
- Temperature: 75-78 Degrees F
- pH: 8.1-8.4
- Alkalinity: 8-9dKH
- Calcium: 380-450ppm
- Magnesium: 1300-1450ppm
- Nitrate (NO3): 10-30ppm
- Phosphate: 0.01-0.1ppm
- Nitrite (NO2): Undetectable
- Ammonia (NH3): Undetectable
Lighting Requirements
This coral does best in medium to high light, around 150-350+ PAR. Gradual acclimation to these light levels is recommended to avoid stress. For those with mixed reef tanks, a PAR meter is invaluable for fine-tuning light levels across different corals, helping ensure each coral gets the right intensity for its needs. This careful setup supports the coral’s vibrant color and long-term health.
Ideal Tank Placement
Most often placed directly onto rockwork where it can branch out. Make sure to give it room as it will grow into a fairly large colony.
Water Flow Requirements
Acropora is found in areas of the reef with some of the strongest currents and greatly benefits from strong water movement in the home aquarium. Water movement is essential for bringing nutrients to coral and, more importantly, moving waste away from them.
Aggressiveness and Compatibility
It's important to give Acropora room to grow. While they are small as frags, they will grow into large colonies over time and can shade and overcrowd other nearby corals.
Feeding and Nutrition
Acropora thrives from having fish present in the tank, whose waste provides nutrients. Regular feeding of amino acids and small zooplankton for both growth and coloration is also a good idea.
Growth Rate and Pattern
This coral has a relatively fast growth rate, forming a somewhat compact branching structure.
Acclimation Process
Acclimation is essential for corals to adjust to their new environment. For a full step-by-step process, refer to our Coral Acclimation Guide.
