DOS – Dosing and Fluid Metering System

The Neptune DOS Fluid Metering System is one of the smartest dosing pumps on the market. It will hook directly to your existing Neptune Apex, ApexEL or Apex Jr. giving you the ability to program both pumps independently for what ever kind of dosing your tank may need. The DOS pump includes two pump heads for the most common of two-part dosing, but it is not limited to just two part dosing. You can use it for automatic water changes once a week or even once a day, minor trace element additive dosing, liquid food dosing, or pretty much any other liquid your tank may need to be dosed in metered amounts.

You simply just hook the DOS Fluid Metering system to your Apex controller with the included AquaHub cable and with the Fusion cloud software programming a dosing pump has never been so simple. The DOS system when interfaced through fusion can be programmed to dose a certain amount of liquid between certain intervals of the day. The DOS pump is so smart it will even change the speed of the motor depending on the amount needed to be delivered to the tank to keep noise at a minimum.

The #1 reason people purchase a dosing system for their aquariums is for consistent and easy dosing of 2-part solutions (calcium and alkalinity) to their reef tanks. The most common method for doing this today is to use standalone dosing pumps and run them on a timer using seconds or minutes to determine how much to dose. This is not only confusing, but also prone to inaccuracy.  Everyone knows that when measuring a fluid it is done by volume, not time. Every dosing calculators out there uses volume. So, with the DOS (and the Apex Fusion interface) you simply enter the amount you want of each part of the additives (one on each pump) and what hours of the day you want it delivered. The DOS then sets up all the dosing intervals within that time period. When that time interval is finished, the exact volume you set has been delivered.  It even automatically chooses the slowest speed necessary for the pump so that it minimizes noise.

  • Automated water changes - Water changes with the DOS are super easy.  All you do is place your empty vessel and your fresh stock of saltwater under your stand. Then, with the Apex Fusion wizard just tell it an amount of water you want to change over what length of time and the hours of the day you want it to happen and it figures it all out for you.  It will perform an automatic, continuous water change for you. It gets better. If you have our dual optical water sensing accessory Apex Fusion will send you an email or text message letting you know it is time to change out the jugs.  Less time pumping, siphoning, and sloshing water and more time enjoying a great aquarium.

  • Dosing micro amounts - If you need to dose tiny amounts of a particular solution, element or other fluid (like vodka dosing or Zeovit systems), the DOS is the perfect solution due to its precision controlled stepper motor. This ability to control pump movement in such a refined manner means that you can dose all the way down to 0.1ml at a time!

  • Large diameter tubing - Larger size tubing means that your pump does not have to work nearly as hard – or stay on for longer cycles. The most popular dosing pumps on the market use tube fittings with the tiny diameter of 1.67mm. The DOS uses much larger tubing and fittings. In fact, at 3.33mm in diameter, the pump on the DOS can handle 4x the flow of the most common pump style on the market.  This means that your pump (and motor) will run 1/4 the time to pump the same amount of fluid.  Less run time means long pump life.

  • Headache free interface - Programmability using Apex Fusion makes dosing a breeze.

  • Quick and easy tubing changes - No matter the pump, your tubeset will eventually go bad.  Changing out the peristaltic pump tubing on the DOS is a snap. Literally! All you need to do to change out the pump tubing is squeeze the pump head and remove. Then take out the tubing, replace with a new one, and snap it back on. No screws, no impossible snap on covers and no fussy loose rollers to mess with. And, because you are not changing out an entire pump head, your costs are lower as well!

  • Adaptability - The DOS has an accessory port that will enable it to be connected to the DDR – Dual DOS Reservoir.

  • Super silent operation -  The Neptune Systems engineering team has taken extensive steps both in how the pump operates as well as the enclosure design to ensure that the DOS system is one of the quietest dosing systems on the market for the fluid volumes it delivers

Product Questions

If I want to use this for AWC and already have a new Apex controller and a couple of large reservoirs (one for RODI and one for waste water). Aside from the DOS, are there other parts (tubing, sensors, something else) I need to get started with AWC?
Question by: Tom Leung on Jan 4, 2023, 12:52 PM
Tubing would be all you need to set up an auto water change with the DOS. You can read about it more here:

Would this be able to function as a dose pump for a calcium reactor?
Question by: Grant Carper on Aug 8, 2022, 5:48 AM
Hey there,
Thank you for reaching out to us. Unfortunately, it would not be able to. You want a pump that is more built for continuous duty.

Please let me know if you need anything further and take care!

hi.
I am now using Neptune Systems
1Link Extension Cable - Neptune Systems Put this on top of your Apex
I want to plug it in right away.
Is it possible?
Includes Aquabus and 24v supply.
I don't want to write this.
Simply Neptune Systems
1Link Extension Cable - Neptune Systems Is this one possible?
I'm curious.
Question by: Byeung Deok Ahn on Jul 20, 2022, 12:47 AM
Thanks for the question! The DOS can be connected and powered in one of two ways to the Apex. The first is with the included AquaBus cable for communication and then the power supply for power. The second is with a 1Link Cable sold separately that provides both power and communication in one single cable. Let us know if we can help with anything else!

Hello, how many gallons will the pumps push until they need replacement?
Question by: Jack Johnson on Jul 15, 2022, 3:15 PM
That is a very good question. The DOS tubing/pump head is replaceable. Periodic replacement is normal. We carry replacement DOS pump heads. Their lifespan will depend on how often the pump is turned on and off as well as what liquid is pumped through them. Kalkwasser is typically harder on tubing than other additives like amino acids and that pump head would typically need to be replaced before the amino acids. We always recommend keeping a set of spare dosing pump heads on hand for when they need replaced. You can find those at the link below.

Just to be 1000% clear, DOS isn't powered over Aquabus, it requires power, maybe even with the included power supply? ha! It DOES provide a 1LINK and 24VDC port? That would be handy for plugging in say a COR 15 AND a PMUP? (emphasis on AND in that last sentence, as I run the permutations). Correct me if I'm wrong. Cheers.
Question by: curt on Jun 9, 2022, 12:40 PM
Thanks for the question! The DOS can be connected to the Apex in 2 ways, the first option is to use the included power supply and AquaBus connection. Alternatively you can purchase a 1Link cable to provide both communication and power and ditch the Aquabus and Power Supply. The 1Link will then need to be plugged into the EB832 or a 1Link Module with power. The 1Link port if open cannot be used to power another device, and there is no open accessory port for a PMUP on the DOS. Only AquaBus can be daisy chained from this particular module.

I am considering the DOS to do water changes for me because I need technology to help me complete it regularly. However, I have a question about keeping the sand bed clean. I have used water changes to clean the sand as well. How do I meet the objective of keeping the sand clean if I only use the DOS for water changes?
Question by: Braden on Dec 15, 2021, 9:02 PM
Hi there. Thank you for reaching out with your questions. The DOS is a great option for auto water changes. I use one at home on my system. To handle keeping the sand clean, I opt for sand sifting snails, and a diamond goby. You will still want to periodically vacuum the sand with and do water changes but the nice thing about having an auto water change system is that you can go much longer between manual water changes. I personally do about one every 6 weeks instead of once a week.

I’m looking at the dose pump to do water changes 130 gallon tank. I have to go up 14 feet make a run in the attic for about 92 feet and then down about 8 feet. I was wondering if the pump is capable of making that type of run.
Thanks,
Harry
Question by: harry corliss on Sep 11, 2020, 7:00 PM
It is not. The overall vertical height is around 12 feet. The horizontal does not matter.

Do you need an apex system to use this dosing pump?
Question by: Corey Mann on Jan 17, 2018, 4:46 PM
An Apex controller is required for use with the DOS Fluid Metering System.
Answer by: Charlie on Jan 17, 2018, 7:26 PM
Does this pump have to be positioned above the fluid source? The pump and A/B solutions would both reside in my stand... The sump is also in the stand. Can I merely put the A/B fluid in the bottom of the stand, as well as the pump right next to it, and then pump directly into the sump?
Question by: Andrew on Dec 9, 2017, 5:28 PM
Hi there,
Thank you for reaching out. the DOS pump does not have to sit above what you are pumping. The pump head is designed to prevent siphoning so you have a wide variety of options on where you place the pump
Please let us know if you have any questions
Answer by: William Glenn on Dec 13, 2017, 1:48 PM
Will this work with an Apex Classic Unit?
If so, do I need any special modules or something similar?
Question by: Andrew on Dec 9, 2017, 5:25 PM
Hi there,
Thank you for reaching out.
The DOS pump is an excellent dosing pump and will work great with the Apex classic. It connects with an aquabus cable and does not require additional modules
Have a great day!
Answer by: William Glenn on Dec 13, 2017, 1:40 PM
Can you piggy-back pumps? In other words, can pumps be added to each other? I dose 5 separate additives.
Question by: DAVID on Nov 5, 2017, 12:35 PM
You can run multiple DOS pumps with the Neptune Apex System. If you dose 5 different elements, then you would need 3 pumps, but it is possible.
Answer by: Charlie on Nov 26, 2017, 7:22 AM
So does this dosing pump have the tubing or not as the gentlemen up top asked before and your answer defers from what your page states.

WHAT'S IN THE BOX
DOS pump
Aquabus cable
Power supply
4 meters DOS tubing
Question by: Matt on Jun 9, 2017, 3:15 PM
Sorry for any confusion. That question/answer was originally provided when the product was first introduced to the market and was based upon different information. The DOS pump does include tubing with the unit.

Have a great day!

Can I put this doser in a refrigerator? It would be to feed liquid food to my aquarium.
Question by: Justin on Jun 6, 2016, 2:39 PM
Certainly can work in cooler environments. We recommend ensuring you are following a good build thread if dosing refrigerated food. Ensure to use volute to draw food into a cycling pump to ensure no left over food remains in the warm doser tubing.

If I set this up for auto water changes and my tank is on the main level of my house and the salt water barrel is one level down (basement) and over about 20 ft can this pump handle that pull?
Question by: Drew Halvorson on Jan 27, 2016, 8:16 PM
Great question!
The DOS has around a 20" head height, this means that you would need to place the pump either a little higher or lower in the line from the storage to the tank. It can work well however. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
