Multiple Flow Modes

Lagoon Mode

Lagoon Mode

Simulating a low-energy lagoon. The QuietDrive motor slowly changes, recreating the gentle currents of a lagoon environment.

Reef Crest Mode

Reef Crest Mode

Simulating currents found around high energy reefs. The pump changes speed frequently emulating crashing waves and tidal surges. This is a great mode for SPS corals.

Gyre mode

Gyre Mode

Uniform circular flow creates motions that help transports water from one side of the tank to the other. With two pumps paired in Gyre Mode, you can oscillate between a clockwise and counterclockwise gyre that lasts from 2 seconds to 2 hours.

Short Pulse Mode

Short Pulse Mode

Strong short pulses that can be set at intervals of 0.2 seconds up to 2 seconds. This mode can create a standing wave in your tank with the correct frequency.

Tidal Swell Mode

Tidal Swell Mode

A harmonic balance of the ever changing conditions found in the ocean. TSM will vary from calm flow all the way up to chaotic high flow and it even has a pre-programmed detritus cleaning surge that will help suspend particles to be swept into the filtration system.

Nutrient Transport

Nutrient Transport Mode

NTM is programmed to create a two-phase circulation flow mode. Phase one consists of wave motions to help stir up and suspend detritus while the second phase incorporates surging motions to help push particles towards the overflow and down into the filter system. This is our favorite mode and is especially great for sensitive corals like LPS and SPS.

Function Modes

Feed Mode

Feed Mode

Pause all of your wireless Ecotech Pumps at the push of a button. Pumps will turn down to an idle speed allowing you to feed your tank without the food being pushing into rocks or into the filtration system.

Night Mode

Night Mode

Simulate a calmer environment for night time hours. Night Mode can be enabled or disabled with custom hours programmed to automatically turn on and off.

Wave Auto Tune

Wave Auto Tune Mode

Create a standing wave in your aquarium to help sweep detritus and other foreign particles from the sandbed. It is amazing what will magically float out of the rocks when a standing wave is created. We highly suggest pairing two wireless pumps for this mode to get the full effect!

  • Great pumps By Ferrell on 11/20/2017

Only one bing I would recommend is to go wireless so can connect to apex or at minimum let the two talk to each other. Wish I had but will upgrade chip and connect to apex after I get over the initial set up cost and stocking cost. Overall great product!
  • worth the money By PETRO on 10/5/2017

    good prodact
  • Amazing for nano tank By Kels on 9/28/2017

Great pump. I love the different modes and ability to change the flow rate. It makes a world of a difference on my nano tank. Would 10/10 recommend to someone with a fresh or salt water tank!
  • the best out there By mark on 7/24/2017

This is the best power head out love how easy it is to use and that you have full wireless control worth the cost for such a good power head we now run 5 at home in our tanks
  • Great wavemaker for 20G Red Sea max nano By Oni on 7/10/2017

Got this in on Saturday and I couldn't wait to set it up, installation was straight forward and I routed the wires with adhesive clips from home depot. When I started it up in the tank and I was amazed how much water this thing moved! Also, its virtually silent! Really solved my algae issues, turns out I was having diatoms spikes due to poor water movement. The in tank footprint is really small and I like how clean it looks, especially because I have a small tank Red Sea max nano. If you guys are looking for a high quality wave maker this is the one!
  • Great pumps By Mkharmon on 6/11/2017

Very good build quality and does a great job at what they are supposed to do. One thing you will really appreciate about these is how easy they are to remove and clean without unwrapping cords or fishing around the back of your tank.
  • High quality, quiet pump By Paul on 4/3/2017

Great quality pump as you would expect from Ecotech. Certainly not the cheapest, but known for reliability. The China made pumps typically don't last and are more likely to fail or crack and leach metals into the tank. When set up as directed, the pump is silent. Great pre-programmed modes.
  • Ecotech customer service - not good... By Geckoejon on 3/22/2017

I have been given the run around from eco tech customer service over getting product info for several mp10's that I already own. I sent several emails and left a voicemail, without results. I asked for the output voltage and amp rating on the power packs... Seems like "high end" equipment with a high price would have better customer service...
  • Best upgrade I've done to my tank yet. By Zachary on 1/17/2017

Before purchasing the Vortech MP10 I had two Hydor Koralia 600GPH matched with the Hydor Smart Wave Controller, and the difference is unbelieveable. And I only got one! The output of this pump is easily twice the output of both of my old pumps combined. I am extremely happy with the quality and ease of operation. I will be purchasing a second one in the upcomming weeks. If you're on the fence about buying this pump for yourself, i'm telling you to take the jump and get it, you won't regret it.
  • Great pump By Avkidd on 11/14/2016

Great pump and very strong I have a 55g display tank and it is only running at 50% and I love to program ablility for future upgrades
  • Loud By Erik on 8/19/2016

Bought this last week and straight out of the box it was incredibly loud. Gave it a few days to see if it quiet down. It didn't. I emailed ecotech with a video of the noises and they are sending me a new dry side. Functionally the pump is awesome all the different modes are great and it moves a lot of water for its size and it looks great in the tank. But for the money it's a little ridiculous this happened right out of the box. Plus the shipping service they use says it's going to take over a week to get me the new dry side. Guess I'll have to put up with that loud pump for week.
  • Should've been my FIRST pump By Todd on 5/23/2016

As a new reefer, I "saved" money and went with cheaper eBay brands for my first two pumps. While they did an "ok" job they both lasted less than a year each before going caput. I finally made the investment for a Vortech based on their impeccable reputation in the reefing community. I'm glad I did, from the packaging to the build quality to the support this thing is TOP NOTCH. I'm now a customer for life.

Product Questions

I'm interested in purchasing an mp for my 72 gallon 1/2 circle oceanic, soft corals only, will 2 mp10qd suffice or do I need to upgrade to two mp40's? Glass thickness seems to be ok for both models.
Question by: AP on Dec 26, 2016 5:05:00 AM
Great question! For that size of tank, I would recommend two MP40s for proper flow. The great thing about getting the larger pumps is that you can dial them down and they grow with you for future builds. :-)
Answer by: Randy (Admin) on Dec 26, 2016 10:47:00 AM
Can I use two of these on my 36" W x 16" H x 15" D acrylic tank? I don't have wifi, but will they sync to make
a good wave pattern, or do I need a MP1W0QD, as well as a MP10QD?
Question by: jesse james on Jun 29, 2016 4:08:00 PM
Certainly will work well! These do not use Wifi and can communicate with 2 by purchasing the W model. With the non wireless module they will not communicate. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
Answer by: Connor (Admin) on Jun 29, 2016 5:33:00 PM
I have two hydor 425 powerhead controlled by a smartwave controller in a fusion nano 20. I was wondering if one of these would have enough flow to be able to replace the 2 hydor powerhead I'm my tank
Question by: kyle reimer on Jul 16, 2016 11:05:00 PM
Hi Kyle,
The Mp10QD pumps can push out quite a bit of flow. Having two pumps does have its benefits of needing less overall flow to keep dead spots to a minimum and the ability to change the direction of the flow. However for a smaller tank, you can easily get away with a single pump that is controllable. The biggest concern with a single pump is allowing water to flow back and forth instead of just a constant stream.
Answer by: Charlie (Admin) on Jul 18, 2016 11:11:00 AM
Will this provide enough flow for a 50 long? Non sps tank that is.
Question by: Greg on Mar 31, 2016 8:29:00 PM
Great question!
This certainly can work well! Keep in mind this work on glass up to .375" thick. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
Answer by: Connor (Admin) on Apr 1, 2016 3:32:00 PM
Would two of these be adequate for a 48" 75 gallon?
Question by: Michael Harmon on Apr 14, 2016 11:35:00 PM
Great question!
The flow rates would work well however you will need to ensure the glass thickness is under 3/8" or the Vortechs will not mount. In many cases we are forced to use the MP40 due to the glass thickness being 1/2". Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
Answer by: Connor (Admin) on Apr 19, 2016 3:43:00 PM
I have a 75 gallon and I was wondering if 2 MP10s would be enough or if one MP40 would be enough for the tank
Question by: Duncan on Nov 19, 2016 12:25:00 PM
Great question! Two MP10s will not be enough for your 75gal tank. I would recommend one or two MP40s. :-)
Answer by: Randy (Admin) on Nov 22, 2016 9:42:00 AM
I have a fluval spec V 5 gallon tank. I'm looking for a controllable wavemaker that it is not overkilling. Do you think I can use this one on it?
Question by: Daniel Vazquez Guevara on Apr 18, 2016 2:13:00 PM
While this may work on its lowest setting. We recommend much smaller power heads such as Nano Korallia or other nano pumps. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
Answer by: Connor (Admin) on Apr 25, 2016 6:47:00 PM
Can I use a mp10 for a 60 cube 24x24x24 or should I go with mp40?
Question by: Ervin on Apr 19, 2016 7:46:00 PM
Great question!
You can use a single mp10 on a 60 cube just fine! For ideal flow patterns you may add an extra pump to keep dead zones at bay. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
Answer by: Connor (Admin) on Apr 25, 2016 6:52:00 PM
Hi! I have one mp40 for my 120 gl tank. I was thinking in add one mp10 but my glass is 10 mm of thickness.

It doesn't work with with 10 mm or is just a best practice to follow?
Question by: Sergio Miller on Jun 5, 2017 3:11:00 PM
The glass thickness recommendation should definitely be adhered to. At greater thicknesses, there can be issues with the dry side and wet side getting good connection and the dry side can fall off the glass easily. For tanks of this size, unfortunately even though the flow may be fine in some setups, the MP10 just can't work reliably, and we recommend moving up to the MP40.

Have a great day!
Answer by: Zack (Admin) on Jun 12, 2017 1:57:00 PM
Hi guys I have a 3x2x2 what pumps would you recommend for a sps tank thanks
Question by: Marcus on Jul 11, 2016 7:59:00 PM
Hi Marcus,
For an SPS dominant tank of that size we would suggest a minimum of two Mp10QD pumps to get it going. Then once the SPS starts to grow and branch out, you could easily find yourself needing one or two more to get flow everywhere throughout the tank depending on how much coral is in the tank, and the aquascape.
