Overview
ECC True Blue Xenia grows in tight clumps of vivid blue, fern-like polyps that give a soft, flowing look. Start it in moderate light with gentle, indirect flow so the polyps sway. Mount on a small, isolated rock and secure it well, as Xenia can spread once established. While feeding the coral directly isn't required, nutrients should be kept above zero.

Xenia Care Guide
Water Parameters
Corals thrive in stable water conditions with regular water changes. While soft corals like this one don't have a hard, skeletal structure, it's still important to perform routine water testing to ensure the needs of the coral are consistently met.
- Specific Gravity (Salinity): 1.025-1.026
- Temperature: 75-78 Degrees F
- pH: 8.1-8.4
- Alkalinity: 8-9.5 dKH
- Calcium: 400-450ppm
- Magnesium: 1300-1450ppm
- Nitrate (NO3): 1-25ppm
- Phosphate: 0.01-0.1ppm

- Ammonia (NH3): Undetectable
Lighting Requirements
Xenia can thrive in a wide variety of lighting conditions, but seem to do best in moderate-light areas of the aquarium, ideally in the 150–250 PAR range.
For those with mixed reef tanks, a PAR meter is invaluable for fine-tuning light levels across different corals, helping ensure each coral gets the right intensity for its needs. This careful setup supports the coral’s vibrant color and long-term health.
Ideal Tank Placement
Xenia is most often placed on isolated rockwork to prevent it from overtaking other corals. Avoid placing it near slower-growing or less aggressive soft corals.
Water Flow Requirements
Low to moderate flow is ideal. Too much flow can cause the polyps to close up, while too little may allow detritus to settle on the coral.
Aggressiveness and Compatibility
While Xenia isn't inherently aggressive, it should not be placed where it is in direct contact with neighboring corals. Its fast growth and ability to spread can create competition for space, so thoughtful placement is key.
Feeding and Nutrition
Xenia primarily relies on photosynthesis for energy, but occasional additions of Amino Acids like CoralAmino can enhance its growth and coloration.
Growth Rate and Pattern
Xenia is a fast grower. It can quickly spread across rockwork, so regular pruning or isolated placement is recommended to control growth.
Acclimation Process
Acclimation is essential for corals to adjust to their new environment. For a full step-by-step process, refer to our Coral Acclimation Guide.
