does the water just flow back into the aquarium over the top, or are you supposed to run a protein skimmer off of it. I can tell in the video what you have inside the tumbler.

Hi Joe,
That is correct, its meant to be used in tank as the water flows straight up and over the top back into the tank. The video is a video done by CPR and happens to use biopellets (which make it really easy to see the way the water flows).
