- Compact Rollermat - Theiling
Never Change A Filter Sock Again!
Max Flow 500 GPH
The Theiling Compact Rollermat can be used in many different scenarios to fit your sumps needs. It can be hung from the side of your sump or with the included base stand securely within your sump. The design allows for water to pass through the fleece which will trap any detritus, debris, or other free-floating particles, and then it can drain down through the base of the Compact Rollermat and into the rest of your aquarium's filtration. Handling up to 500 GPH of flow through the fleece, after particles start to clog up the fleece the float sensor will automatically trigger the motor to turn the rollers and offer new fleece.
- New compact design
- Freestanding or hang-on options
- Fleece can last 3+ months between changes
- Efficient fleece material can reduce free-floating protozoa
- Quickly replaceable fleece roll
The fleece roll is 4" wide and comes in 36 foot long rolls. It has a variable depth rating and can last anywhere from one to multiple months and will ultimately depend on your tanks flow, bioload, feeding habits, water changes, etc.

Great product By Richard on 3/17/2020Richard would recommend this product to a friendI just changed my first roll.never want to use another filter sock again.this thing is worth every penny.
Simple design that works By Drew on 1/2/2020Drew would recommend this product to a friendI avoid some the the new trendy gadgets but this looked so useful I tried it a year or so after it was released. Very easy to use and effective at polishing water, I run at a slower rate and it took a few days to fill chamber with a new clean roll than took off. BRS carries parts but can not see any problems if handled carefully. It follows the European design model of their plastics so handle carefully.
Replacement Fleece filter issue By Pedro on 10/7/2019Pedro would recommend this product to a friendI do recommend the product itself. This device is literally a reefers dream but they managed to ruin that with their replacement fleece rolls.
When you grab the product it comes with a huge roll of this nice felt material that cleans the tank right up. When you order the replacement cartridge you get this transparent cheap roll that lets detritus run right through it. I opened the packaging and realized i can see my hand holding it on the other side im like WHAT THE..... i used it anyway and a few days in i already see detritus forming on the bottom of my sump when the old roller mat filter that came with the device grabbed everything. now im back to constant siphoning of the sump every 2 weeks. I need to find the original material and order it cut to size somewhere.
AMAZING Product By Matthew on 9/28/2019Matthew would recommend this product to a friendI would 100000% recommend this product and would never run a tank without it if had the chance. Completely eliminates the need for filter socks at the expense of none of your time!
Forget about a filter sock By Ken on 9/3/2019Ken would recommend this product to a friendAfter running this, I can't believe anyone would ever willingly use filter socks. True, it requires some dexterity when swapping the rolls but it's simple once you get the hang of it. No broken parts like one reviewer experienced. Also, I threaded a sch 80 union on top with no problem - just add extra teflon tape to the threads and it will seal up just fine. Don't overthink it. My setup is in a RedSea 425XL sump. I cut out all of the filter sock arrangement to make it fit. Running about 450gph through it and rolls are lasting 3-4 weeks. On the awesomeness scale, I put this right behind automatic water changes. Forget the socks and buy one already!
Needs improvement By Jeremy on 7/23/2019Jeremy would recommend this product to a friendThe design is very wierd, especially when trying to replace a roll of fleece. It is very easy to break the float switch. Luckily they offer a replacement. I assume this is because they break quite often. You must remove the float to remove the insert that holds the cloth down... and then you can dissassemble the rollers to put a new roll on. Its a pain... especially in a tight sump location. I would recommend that anyone attempting to use this device has extra clearance around and above the device to manuver it in and out of the sump.
Needs tweaking By Steven on 5/4/2019Steven would recommend this product to a friendConceptually it’s great there are a few problems that I’ve encountered
1) the water intake accommodates a 1.5 inch Union and the output will accommodate 1inch pipe ( with adapter) why make the output smaller then the input. If you're pushing a lot of water through it, you will overcome the emergency drain and soak your entire fleece.
2) if the unit sits inside your sump and the water level in the sump rises above the float switch in the rollermat for some reason, you will roll through whatever fleece you have left
3) if using a union or a valve at the input, it’s not so easy to change the fleece as it takes some maneuvering to avoid knocking the float switch off its holder when removing the fleece positioning holder
With some minor modifications this would be 5 stars all day
Works perfectly By Angrytang on 4/28/2019Angrytang would recommend this product to a friendNo issues, but there is an odor. It will mess with your water height when the water level falls as the reel turns. My return section is small and it can slightly raise my skimmer water height. I had to make my fuge and skimmer water height the same to greatly lessen the effect.
Amazing product By Brandon ward on 3/11/2019Brandon ward would recommend this product to a friendLike someone said in a review in the past, what are you waiting for! So happy to be done with filter socks. Mine has been up and running for about three months now with zero issues and amazing results!
WOW - Update By Yellow Donkey on 1/7/2019Yellow Donkey would recommend this product to a friendThis is AN Update to 10/11/2018 posting by Yellow Donkey for this item.
UPDATE - so only a couple days short of 90 days and I replaced my 1st roll of fleece. My original guess of 30 days was way off and the manufacturer was dead correct. I went through the roll and there was so much trash collected it was ugly. I did notice though that the 1st 25% of the roll was much cleaner and only got dirtier as time went on. This would support my guess of a higher micro as I used Absolute 10 and 25 micron socks before the install and now the water is a little dirtier, but overall still no visible difference to the eye.
After 90 days or roughly what would have been 50 sock changes, I couldn't be happier, its the only way to go.
Why are you waiting??? By Dustin on 12/12/2018Dustin would recommend this product to a friendDon't know why I was ever changing filter socks. This is a billion times easier and more cost effective. One roll lasts about 2-3 weeks for me in my 90 with about 600 gph throughput.
Greatest improvement in Clean water By Ken on 12/5/2018Ken would recommend this product to a friendI use filter socks on my red sea 170 what a pain, but it keeps things sparkling. MY 200 gallon always has a problem with clarity due to no socks. It now is looking great. I am not easily impressed but this product is doing its job. Thanks Bulk Reef!
What are the widths of the bottom of the roller mat vs the top where the fleece rollers are? I am asking about the minimum width required for it to insert into a sump, excluding the fleece rollers and the maximum requirement to be fully inserted.
What are the base dimensions without the red base attached
The Theiling compact roller mat will be 5.5" x 5" at the base without the red attachment. Have a great day!
I would like to use it with a pump, but I have a hard time finding a pump with around 500gph that I can connect this large of a connection. Can you recommend a pump that would work with this and that has a small footprint?
We recommend using a 1.5" threaded to slip union on this roller mat and then you can use a 1.5 spigot reducing bushing and barb to reduce to the size needed to fit the pump of your choice. Have a great day!
Can this be used in an AIO like IM nuvo?
Or must it be used only in sump.
Will it work with a red sea reefer 350?
It would certainly work! You would just have to set it on the side of the sump or set it in the sump and supply it with a pump!
