Chemi Clean is by far our most favorite product for combating Cyanobacteria in saltwater aquarium. The extremely safe formula will not harm the livestock in the tank, while effectively eliminating any red slime. Its fast acting formula will finish the job within 48 hours, by oxidizing trapped organic sludge and promoting an ideal enzyme balance.
- Available in dry powder or liquid
- Compatible with Fresh and Saltwater
- Completely safe for all fish, invertebrates, and coral
- Will not harm nitrifying bacteria
For the best results, turn off or remove any carbon filtration source, UV sterilizers, protein skimmers, and ozone before administering Chemi Clean to the aquarium. After treatment is complete perform a 20% water change, after that point any carbon filtration, UV, protein skimmers*, or ozone may be turned back on.
*It is very common for protein skimmers to over skim for a period of time after treatment is complete and is completely normal. We suggest monitoring the skimmer cup and removing any collected skimate from the aquarium and not letting it drain back into the water column. If your skimmer is overflowing too fast, you can try restricting the air supply feeding the skimmer and that will decrease the amount of bubbles being formed or simply physically raising the skimmer will allow a faster drain and a dryer skimmate to be produced. Replace any removed water with freshly mixed saltwater.
Chemi Clean will remove and clean stains from red, black, blue-green, and methane producing cyanobacteria in marine aquariums.
Note: When using Chemi Clean it is very important to monitor oxygen and pH levels within the aquarium. We suggest pointing a powerhead or air stone at the surface of the aquarium to maximize gas exchange. Failure to do so can cause low oxygen levels in the aquarium.
Worked Great By Yuri on 7/12/2017Yuri would recommend this product to a friendSo normally I do not like to use any chemicals to try and fix tank issues but I had tried multiple lights out periods, adding more flow and even basically starving my tank to rid it of cyano. Finally bit the bullet and tried Chemiclean and I must say it worked as advertised with no ill effects to my corals, inverts including my anemone or my fish. I have been cyano free since last October. Only drawback was getting my skimmer to calm down which took a few weeks or adjustments.
Excellent Product, Highly recommend!! By Roscoe's Reefs on 4/14/2017Roscoe's Reefs would recommend this product to a friendStruggled with red slime algae for months then heard about this. Had used Chemi-Pure products but not this one. Bought this, waited 48 hours as directed and WAS AMAZED! At least 98% cured. Within the next day or so, completely gone, hasn't been back. The only thing I'll add is as a function of learning about this, I did cut back a little on feeding.
fixed my tank By Terry on 11/20/2016Terry would recommend this product to a friendI had a mass cyano epideic that I tried everything to solve for several months. chemiclean wiped it out in 48 hours and none of my sps, lps or softies suffered at all. Your skimmer will overflow massively for about 72 hours. I just restriced inflow and gradually expanded it. In 3 days it was back to normal. Strong recommendation.
Great product By Kendall on 8/26/2016Kendall would recommend this product to a friendHave used it once on my 220 for slight case of red cyano. It quickly removed cyano with no adverse effects on my acros, clams or SPS. Just finished 2nd dose - this one 6 weeks after the initial dose. I am not sure I am comfortable using this as a long term algae control method. I still need to identify the root cause of the algae, but this product works great to keep it under control in the meantime.
Highly recommended. By Brian on 3/31/2016Brian would recommend this product to a friendI'm very happy to see BRS carry this product. Works great and doesn't change your water color!

This is designed as a bacteria removed which does not impact much algae in the system. Not certain of effect on spirulina unfortunately.
