Purchased for drinking water for son in college will be purchasing more in the future. Thanks BRS!!
  • Great for home use By Water Filter on 6/1/2016

Water filter is of high quality. Easy to install. Water tastes great, can't tell vs water from store. Pays for itself in the long run, and saves time from actually going out to buy it. Highly recommeneded.
  • Excellent drinking water system By Doc on 4/19/2016

I purchased this unit to replace a 15 year old Culligan AC-30 that lived under the sink and supplied drinking water through a sink mounted faucet and water to a refrigerator ice maker. The Culligan machine leaked after changing filters and could not be fixed even with new o-rings. The 3 gallon storage tank was still good. The BRS unit makes water faster and is leak free.

I also have a 150 gpd RODI in the garage for reefing purposes. It has performed flawlessly for several years and I really like the simplicity and ease of changing filter.
One must consider that the drinking water unit does not come a deionizing stage. This is important for reef water but contraindicated for human drinking water. The DI stage removes all taste and some important minerals from the water. This unit is for drinking and their are better units for reefing. Also keep in mind that this unit has 1/4 inch tubing. Many faucets have a 3/8 connect. Also many tanks come with a 3/8 shut off valve. BRS sells a unit with a tank and faucet and I suspect that would be the one to purchase if one doesn't already have a faucet and storage tank. You will need to plan accordingly. BRS supplies all the quality connections for this purpose. The Lowe's/ Home Depot quick connects are low quality and are more likely to leak. Also I recommend that one puts a charcoal inline post filter to improve the taste of the water. BRS sells a good one/ Also don't buy any filters made in China if you are using the water for drinking.
  • Disappointed and dissatisfied By Chris on 12/24/2015

Unfortunately I can not and will not recommend this to anyone. The shipping and packing was fine. No complaints there. Set was really easy. One day I decided to attempt to take the canisters off of the system. This is where the problem began. I had such a hard time getting the canisters off. Oh my goodness. I tried and tried and I could not get the canisters off for nothing. So I emailed and I also called Bulk Reef Supply to get some assistance. When I spoke to the representative on the phone about the problem I was having he told me that sometimes the canisters can be put on a little tighter then normal. He asked me if my unit was mounted and I told him no. He said that I could put the unit on the floor to get leverage and open it that way. That was really strange to me. I then checked my email and Chad sent me an email back saying that I could use a 1.5 inch PVC tube to get it open. That was definitely crazy. Well, I finally was able to get the canister filters open. Now when it came time to put them back on there was no problem. At least that is what I thought. Once the canisters were back in place I noticed that there were 2 small leaks (Slow drips) in the upper middle part of the canisters. So I took the canisters apart several times. Tightening and loosening the canisters so that they would not leak. Unfortunately that did not work so now I have to resort to putting paper towels underneath the canisters whenever I decide to use the RO system. Had I know that it was going to be this much trouble I would not have bought this unit. I would have bought something else. So they need to loosen up the canisters and they also need to change the design. I have had this system for about a month now. Unfortunately I got rid of my old unit when I received this unit and I can not send it back. I am now searching for another system.

This RO unit is so much better than the one I had, it gives me all the water I need for water changes. Thank you so much.
  • Must have for reef By Luke Schnabel on 7/30/2015

I bought this unit to make water for my reef tank. It's a great unit but If your buying this I would just upgrade to the unit that comes with a TDS meter.
  • BRS 4 Stage RO Only ROCKS for Drinking Water By JimInCarver on 1/29/2015

I had a big box store RO system in the 90s so I knew next time I wanted something better. In our new house, my daughter said the water tasted like a shrew. After getting a new water softener, I bought this system or very similar in early 2014 from BRS. I ran 3/8" tube from the tank to the little faucet, and it sprays across the room if I open the valve all the way. I have to turn a ball valve half way closed so I don't soak the kitchen when I go to get a drink of water. This system is awesome, I love it!! It's really everything I wanted in an RO system. I have brought a couple of my aquariums to life since installing the system but that's really a minor use of the system at this time. Now that I see how easy it is to replace the filters, I'll do it a little more regularly.

Product Questions

Hello what is difference between stage 4&5? Can this water be used as reef tank top off with no nitrates?
Question by: Matt on May 7, 2017 12:51:00 PM
Hey there,
The 5 stage system provides dual carbon blocks, which may be an advantage for cities using higher levels off disinfectants such as chloramine, but where TDS and general water quality is moderate and a dual DI resin stage is not needed or wanted. This ensures that there is minimal pass-through at normal production rates and this protects the membrane and keeps it running in peak shape. The membrane will remove upwards of 85% of nitrate from your tap water, and any residual nitrate will be removed by the DI stage.

Hope this helps!

How often do you have to replace the 3 filters? I've had mine for a few months now and the filters are darker.
Question by: Adam on Mar 31, 2016 4:11:00 PM
Great question!
Ideally the 3 filters should be changed when the TDS on the DI resin is above 0. Typically this is between 6-9 months and sometimes as late as 12 months. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!

What is the waste water to filtered water ratio? It seems that there is a lot of waste water.
Question by: Chris Chalmers on Mar 24, 2016 1:04:00 PM
Great question!
The ratio of waste to product water is 4:1 (4 parts waste to 1 part product water) This will vary of course depending on the pressure and quality of the incoming water. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
Answer by: Connor (Admin) on Mar 24, 2016 1:35:00 PM
Do you have a RO only system that does 150 gpd.
Question by: Kenneth Burch on Jan 18, 2017 10:23:00 PM
Hey there! We do not currently sell a 150GPD RO only unit, however we do carry the 150GPD upgrade kit that you can purchase separately and install. :-)

The flow of water is very low. What could be the problem and how to fix that?
Question by: Arthur Lee on May 17, 2016 4:15:00 PM
Great question!
The flow will come out at a steady trickle into very slow stream. For trouble shooting you will want to contact our customer service team directly. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
