Ammonia
Ammonia is the most common killer of fish in a new aquarium setup. If you're planning on setting up a new tank, be sure to have an ammonia test kit so that you can ensure the water is safe for your new fish. We aim for 0.0 ppm ammonia in our saltwater aquariums. Anything higher and your fish will not be able to expel the ammonia from their bodies into the surrounding water. High ammonia levels in an aquarium will lead to fish experiencing discomfort and in severe cases, death.
