The IceCap UV sterilizers can be used on saltwater, freshwater, and ponds to help control and even eradicate parasites, algae, fungi, bacteria, and protozoa without any harmful chemicals or biocides. When set up, maintained, and properly operated; free-floating microorganisms will be killed by the high output UV light as it passes through the sterilizer.

  • Kills most suspended bacteria and viruses in the water column
  • Will not affect beneficial colonies in filter media and substrate
  • Improves redox balance in aquariums and ponds
  • Aids in control of parasites
  • Can be mounted vertically or horizontally
  • Includes secure mounting brackets
  • Can be plumbed using standard PVC fittings
  • Optional molded barbed fittings included for easy installation with tubing

Plumbing your UV Sterilizer

Plumbing to and from the UV Sterilizer is completely up to you. The most common practice is to have the UV spliced into your filtration's return line with a return pump or a canister filter. If using the included barbed fitting, you must glue them to the PVC Adapter (also included). PVC plumbing can be achieved using standard 2 inch PVC found at any local hardware store. The size in and out can be reduced to the desired size to accommodate your system's plumbing. Use a bypass assembly for greater water flow control and ease of service.

Product Questions

I am using this to kill ostreopsis dinos and am wanting to use tubing instead of pvc piping. What size tubing is needed to fit the provided molded barbed fittings?
Question by: Christa Carter on Aug 17, 2023, 7:09 PM
Hey there,
Thank you for reaching out to us. It is a stepper barb that can take 1/2, 3/4, or 1" tubing.

Please let me know if you need anything further and take care!

I understand the the max flow rate for 40 watt is 1000gph. But no flow rate chart of any kind to be found in the instructions or online. UV has specific flow rates to eradicate certain things, so help on this would great. others are asking the same questions, based on my research. Thanks.
Question by: Tim Luttrell on Aug 9, 2023, 10:01 PM
Hey there,
Thank you for reaching out to us. For algae you would want to be around 700-940 GPH and for bacteria 160-300.

Please let me know if you need anything further and take care!

Can you plumb this for water to flow through either way of the uv?
Mine if going to be mounted horizontally in my sump. And the way my plumbing is, I would need the water to flow through the portion considered the top and out the bottom.
If that makes sense

Does this have an automatic shutoff when it overheats (or there is no flow to cool the lamp)?
Question by: Angel on Nov 23, 2022, 10:34 PM
Thanks for the question! This does not have an auto shut off function. Flow is based on the pump you put in the UV. It is important to put the pump in an area where water level will not change!

Can the icecap 40 watt UV sterilizer be mounted horizontally or vertically
Question by: Michael Foster on Sep 29, 2022, 11:14 AM
It can be mounted both horizontally or vertically. If mounting it vertically, the input needs to be on the bottom.
