- ZAR-127 Automatic Zeolith Reactor - Skimz (DISCONTINUED)
Skimz Automatic Zeolith Reactors utilize a double walled chamber along with the controllable Skimz QP4.0 to manage the flow through the stones, and will even wash the stones up to once every hour. The ZAR-127 can hold up to 1.2 liters of zeolite stones and only takes a couple of minutes to replace the media with the easy to remove thumbscrews and outer chamber.
Zeolite reactors are intended to be used with Zeolith stones to support selective bacterial strains helping reduce nutrient levels in the aquarium. In many cases, this will create an Ultra-Low Nutrient System (ULNS) where you may need to actually dose nutrients and elements back into your aquarium since Zeolith based stones can be very effective. The most notable system, Korallen-Zucht's Zeovit system has proven to produce stunning coral reef tanks but has been feared by many reefers due to the daily maintenance of pumping the Zeo stones in the reactor. Skimz has completely removed the need for daily manual maintenance with the ZAR reactors. Automating the flushing of the stones ensures it gets done on time, every time, but even more important, it gives you more time to enjoy your aquarium.
We highly recommend following a system or program that has a method of testing and supplements since maintaining a ULNS system will require many additives and supplements to be added back to the tank at regular intervals.
Two-Stage Wash Program
Depending on your preference, you can set the Skimz ZAR-157 to flush the Zeostones twice a day or as often as once per hour. The DC pump will automatically increase the flow to rinse the stones which completely removes the need to manually shake or pump your Zeo reactor.
- Mode 1 - Rinses twice per day
- Mode 2 - Pump flushes once every hour

Nice! By Debbie on 3/24/2020Debbie would recommend this product to a friendStarting the KZ program, amazing how coral responded when this reactor flushed. LPS really inflated. Happy with purchase.
Better than I had expected By Patrick on 3/6/2019Patrick would recommend this product to a friendOnline info from SKIMZ and BRS is almost non-existent about this excellent product. Basically there are two agitation programs, hourly, or the traditional once a day. You can increase the amount of agitation using the dial. I recommend using Brightwell Neo-Zeo, it has a smaller and more uniform size.
Finally! By Keisha Kornbread on 2/14/2019Keisha Kornbread would recommend this product to a friendFirstly, this thing is big! Much bigger than I anticipated, and I purchased the small one. It fits in my sump but be mindful of the height. I really like that this thing resides in the sump. I would have loved to own the other popular option that vibrates but I don't have any extra space under my sump and it's pricey. I also don't like that those springs rust so keeping it under my tank would be a no-no.
Secondly, I love this thing. I've gotten so tired of pumping the Vertex reactor that I stopped and the tank suffered. I was thinking of pulling the ZEOvit from my tank because of the work and time and then I stumbled across this reactor last week. I couldn't find any reviews on it so I blindly ordered it and dropped it in the tank. Setup was a pain and the instructions are the worst but I think I have figured it out. The tank reacted positively to me being on schedule with the reactor since it's now on autopilot and the tank rebounded quite quickly.
My only gripes are the lack of clear instructions, that horrible o-ring that refuses to stay in place and that there is no way to program the cycles for times. I like to pump the reactor at night after the lights have gone off and the polyps are stretched out to feed.
In conclusion, I am glad I made the purchase. Skimz is a great brand with a great reputation. The reactor is priced well, made well and automates something I eventually got tired of doing manually. I am pleased. That's all.
Quick and Easy By Kristopher on 2/2/2019Kristopher would recommend this product to a friendMan, I've been hoping for a water-friendly automatic zeo reactor for a while, and the skimz product delivers. Easy to set up, though the directions are lacking a bit out of the package, its relatively easy to figure out. Disconnect the outer lid, remove the screen, then undo the thumb screws on the base, so you can thread the pump output into the base. The o-ring can be a little fussy, but nothing too terrible. Put it back together in reverse order and you are good to go. It holds plenty of media (I run a 1L bag in mine) without issue. My only suggestion is to make an additional screen out of knitting mesh, as when the pump is turned all the way up, it can propel some of the smaller pieces of the media out of the top of the reactor. I just used the included acrylic screen as a template, cut out a circle of knitting mesh put it on, put on the acrylic screen and BAM! off and running. It does a great job pulsing the entire zeo mix, and Ive seen a visible improvement in the tank quality now that the media is pulsed once an hour versus once a day like I was doing with my manual reactor. It runs very quiet and there's no salt creep because of the design. Highly recommended!
Hello, I have a reef tank from the last 6 years with a lot of sps in big size too, my tank is 120 gallon
I want to stop my battle with phosphate and nitrate which required too much time and effort and move to the zeovit system. What do you recommend? And what should be the startup steps and dosage which will not stress the corals
Thank you for your help
I like to recommend the vibe reactors for ZeoVit, the fact that it will automatically shake the media for you. This is also the starting kit ZeoVit recommends for beginners. https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/zeovit-start-package-korallen-zucht.html
Do you need to add a pump to this?
No you do not need to add one, it will come with one.
