Multiple Flow Modes

Lagoon Mode

Lagoon Mode

Simulating a low-energy lagoon. The QuietDrive motor slowly changes, recreating the gentle currents of a lagoon environment.

Reef Crest Mode

Reef Crest Mode

Simulating currents found around high energy reefs. The pump changes speed frequently emulating crashing waves and tidal surges. This is a great mode for SPS corals.

Gyre mode

Gyre Mode

Uniform circular flow creates motions that help transports water from one side of the tank to the other. With two pumps paired in Gyre Mode, you can oscillate between a clockwise and counterclockwise gyre that lasts from 2 seconds to 2 hours.

Short Pulse Mode

Short Pulse Mode

Strong short pulses that can be set at intervals of 0.2 seconds up to 2 seconds. This mode can create a standing wave in your tank with the correct frequency.

Tidal Swell Mode

Tidal Swell Mode

A harmonic balance of the ever changing conditions found in the ocean. TSM will vary from calm flow all the way up to chaotic high flow and it even has a pre-programmed detritus cleaning surge that will help suspend particles to be swept into the filtration system.

Nutrient Transport

Nutrient Transport Mode

NTM is programmed to create a two-phase circulation flow mode. Phase one consists of wave motions to help stir up and suspend detritus while the second phase incorporates surging motions to help push particles towards the overflow and down into the filter system. This is our favorite mode and is especially great for sensitive corals like LPS and SPS.

Function Modes

Feed Mode

Feed Mode

Pause all of your wireless Ecotech Pumps at the push of a button. Pumps will turn down to an idle speed allowing you to feed your tank without the food being pushing into rocks or into the filtration system.

Night Mode

Night Mode

Simulate a calmer environment for night time hours. Night Mode can be enabled or disabled with custom hours programmed to automatically turn on and off.

Wave Auto Tune

Wave Auto Tune Mode

Create a standing wave in your aquarium to help sweep detritus and other foreign particles from the sandbed. It is amazing what will magically float out of the rocks when a standing wave is created. We highly suggest pairing two wireless pumps for this mode to get the full effect!

Product Questions

I have a 56 gallon tank 30x18x24 LxWH. Should I use an MP10, 40, or two MP10s?
Question by: Daniel Smith on Jan 19, 2020, 7:27 PM
Hey there!

It is really going to depend on your glass thickness, any thicker than .375" and you have to get the MP40, otherwise 2 MP10 would be great!
Answer by: Thomas Billington on Jan 22, 2020, 3:43 PM
We have a Waterbox peninsula 6026 186 gallon tank. What VorTech powerhead or heads do you recommend.
Question by: Brandon Siurek on Nov 22, 2019, 10:35 AM
Hey there,
Thank you for reaching out with your question.
The combination of powerheads in a reef tank will be dependent upon the type of coral you plan on adding. To help you determine how many and what size of VorTechs to use, EcoTech has created this calculator:
https://ecotechmarine.com/vortech-flow-calculator
I find it very helpful when determining what will work best.
Let us know if you have any other questions!

What a size would be recommended for my 125g mixed reef? Can the wireless version be hooked up to an Apex controller? And can 2 pumps be set to operate on a single controller?
Question by: Chel on Mar 15, 2018, 6:20 PM
Hi there,
Thank you for reaching out.
I would recommend MP40s for a 125 tank.
https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/vortech-mp40w-qd-propeller-pump-ecotech-marine.html
The wireless version allows the controllers to talk to each other but does not allow them to work directly with the Apex. You can add the WXM module to allow you to control the pumps with the Apex. You would still need to wireless models:
https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/vortech-wireless-module-wxm-neptune-systems.html
You would need a controller for each pump. The pump drivers are actually hard wired into the controller.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
Have a great day!

I'm planning a build around an IM 25 lagoon and was curious if using 2 mp10w would be overkill on a tank that small? Are you able to adjust the intensity without a standalone controller like an apex? I'd like to have 2 for a nice variation in the flow patterns. Thanks for your time
Question by: Jim on Nov 9, 2017, 4:21 AM
Two Mp10 pumps on a 25 lagoon would actually be ideal. The Vortech pumps each come with a controller that lets you dial in the flow for your system. With the Mp10W versions you can wirelessly sync the two controllers to create unique flow characteristics, only Ecotech pumps can produce.

My glass is .75 “ thick. I want to put mp10 on it. Is there an adapter?
Question by: Eric Neuberger on Nov 3, 2017, 11:07 AM
Hi Eric, thanks for reaching out.
Unfortunately there is no way to increase the strength of the magnets in the MP10 which is the limiting factor for how thick of glass these can work on. The MP40 is going to be the smallest VorTech pump compatible with 3/4" glass.
I hope this helps!
Answer by: Nick on Nov 25, 2017, 12:34 PM
I have a 32 gallon bio cube and it has the sump built on the back, I would want to put the motor part (that has the electrical cord attached to it) of a MP10wQD inside the sump in the back so the spinning part is inside the aquarium on the back wall. I need to know if that magnetic motorized part with the cord is water proof, able to be submersible. If not, I have another place I can put it, in the sump, but I will need to know how many inches out the "motorized magnetic part" is, not the fan part, sticking out from back so I would know if it would fit in the sump. I have approximately 3 and 3/4 inches of room in the sump to hang the motorized piece.
Question by: Robert Rainey on Jan 15, 2017, 1:15 PM
Hey there! You cannot submerge the wired mechanical "Dry Side". It is water resistant from minor splashes, but it is not waterproof. Your only option for mounting that pump would have to be on the side of the aquarium. :-)

Answer by: Randy on Jan 16, 2017, 11:27 AM
I'm planning on starting a standard 29 gallon reef tank, wI'll one pump be enough to provide enough flow for your average mixed reef?
Question by: Luis Velazquez on Dec 13, 2016, 2:06 AM
Great question! One of these pumps will absolutely be sufficient for a 29gal tank. Down the road, you may want to add another pump for more variation in flow pattern, rather than a single point of laminar flow. :-)
Answer by: Randy on Dec 13, 2016, 3:00 PM
Im thinking about installing 2 of the mp10wQD on the back wall of my 125 gal aquarium. Could you let me know if i need to get anything extra to have them work at the same mode and speed? Another words can i control them with only one controler?
Question by: Pawel on Aug 11, 2016, 4:18 AM
Thanks for reaching out to us! There is no way to run two of these pumps with one single driver box. Each must utilize their own, but since they are "wireless" you can connect them to run synchronously or in anti-sync modes. :-)
Answer by: Randy on Aug 15, 2016, 6:54 PM
Can one VorTech Quiet Drive controller run two VorTech powerhead pumps, or do I have to buy two Quiet Drive controllers?

Thanks
Question by: Eugene Blair on Jul 14, 2016, 1:57 PM
Hey Eugene,
You can run any type of Ecotech wireless pumps together harmoniously. It doesn’t matter if they are standard wireless models or the Quiet Drive models, they all use the same radio frequency. The only requirement is that they are wireless models. : )
Answer by: Charlie on Jul 14, 2016, 3:02 PM
My thought is to get a IM 50 Lagoon this Fall. Would the MP10 be enough flow and still work with the 10mm glass vs 9.5mm?

Thanks
Question by: Dale on Jun 26, 2016, 9:33 AM
Great question! I would recommend two MP10s for the Lagoon 50. :-)
Answer by: Randy on Jun 29, 2016, 6:24 PM
I'm looking at upgrading my powerheads to the vortechs. I have a 75 gallon and have heard to get 2 mp10wqd's? Also would i have to buy two full kits or am i able to buy one kit and purchase a second powerhead to connect?
Question by: Matthew on May 11, 2016, 11:51 AM
Great question!
The Vortech Mp10 would work great for flow, You will need to check your glass thickness as they can work up to 3/8" maximum thickness and on most 75 gallons it is right on the edge. Two individual kits will be needed, there is no add on pumps. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!

can i set this pump up for 14 gallons in my Coralife Biocube 14?
Question by: johnathan on May 9, 2016, 2:25 PM
Great question!
This will work great on small 14 gallon tanks! Keep the intensity lower and there will be no issue.
Answer by: Connor on May 11, 2016, 5:58 PM
I am currently running Tunze 6095 Powerheads on my tank with a Neptune Apex. I cannot run them below 30%, which has been recommended by both manufacturers. My question is, Can I run the MP10QWD on an Apex lower than 30%m or even off?
Question by: Bill on Apr 6, 2016, 2:16 PM
Great question!
The MP10 can be run at very low settings below 30% with the use of the WXM module. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
Answer by: Connor on Apr 12, 2016, 4:27 PM
Would this powerhead work on a Neptune Apex Controller?
Question by: Andrew Khairallah on Mar 31, 2016, 12:50 AM
Great question!
This can work with the Apex with the additional WXM module. This will require the wireless version of the Vortech. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!

Setting up a 92 corner tank would one Mp40 be enough flow
Question by: Greg on Mar 29, 2016, 12:54 PM
Great question!
On a 92 gallon, one MP40 should be enough flow! There may be some dead spots depending on the aquascape however this will provide the base flow for the tank. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
Answer by: Connor on Mar 30, 2016, 11:59 AM
I have a 75 gallon I'm setting up should I get the M10WQD would that be enough flow and how many should I get? Or should I get the M40WQD and how many should I get?
Question by: Bernard Hodges on Mar 27, 2016, 4:33 PM
Great question!
The MP10 could work well however it only will work on glass up to .375". Ideally two MP10's would have a great flow across the tank. If your glass is thicker you can get by with one MP40. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!

What is the difference between the 235 dollar vortech mp10 and the 285 dollar vortech mp10
Question by: Dave on Mar 8, 2016, 8:44 PM
Great question!
The MP10 W will have the wireless RF chip included in the unit to communicate between more than one vortech or to the reeflink controller. The MP10 regular will not have the wireless chip and only will be programmed from the hand held controller included in the pump. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
Answer by: Connor on Mar 10, 2016, 12:07 PM
Would I need to buy two full kits to install a master and a slave or is there a slave version of the pump?
Question by: Andres on Feb 5, 2016, 2:53 PM
Great question!
There is no slave pump, you will need an additional wireless vortech. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
Answer by: Connor on Mar 2, 2016, 12:33 PM
Can the mp10wqd communicate with the mp10qd? Would it still be wireless?
Question by: joshua on Jan 22, 2016, 7:24 PM
Great question!
The regular MP10 (non W) will not have any communication with other pumps. You can possibly upgrade the regular with the RF chip from Ecotech directly. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
