- Vectra Engine Universal Cleaner Unit - Vertex
The Vertex Vectra Engine Universal Cleaner Unit is the component of the Vectra system that includes the motor, shaft, and squeegee. The Engine can be used when modifying an existing skimmer lid, or as a replacement for a current Vectra Cleaning system.
- Adapts to most brands skimmer cup lids
- Includes squeegee
- Does not include Skimmer Cup or Lid
- Compatible with all aquarium controllers and basic timers
Protein Skimmers will perform better when the neck is clean. Neck Cleaners are gaining more and more popularity as reefers use them and notice their effectiveness (not to mention removing a disgusting chore). The Vertex Engine can be added to most skimmer cups by creating a couple small holes to allow the shaft and screws through the lid. The neck cleaner motor can be mounted on virtually any skimmer cup lid and will only require 4" of needed clearance and with some smaller skimmers, the squeegee may need to be modified to fit within the neck of the skimmer.
Controlling the Vectra Engine is super easy by plugging in the power supply to a basic On/Off timer or any aquarium controller. We suggest activating the engine for a couple minutes at a time, up to 4 times a day.
Note: Skimmer Cup Lid required for use (not included)
8 month review By Robert on 8/2/2019Robert would recommend this product to a friendIt’s been going strong during the time. I have it set to run 1min. a day.
It works great, contrary to Jake Adams review. By William on 8/7/2017William would recommend this product to a friendI have had one of these running on an NYOS Quantum 200 (200mm Version) for 3 years and on a NYOS Quantum 300 (300mm Version) for two years. It keeps the necks clean enough that there is no need to wipe it for up to 6 months. I placed one of the Silica Gel packets inside each of the motor housings as a precaution for moisture. The motor has a finite lifetime of about 1500 hours, just like every Kalk Stirrer out there. As far as customer service, no representative, especially in an industry such as this where every customer is actually needed, would ever treat a customer the way it was suggested they had. Perhaps Jake should just stick to the paid cookie-cutter ads he calls articles rather than bash excellent company such as Vertex.
2+ year review By J.Adams on 5/26/2017J.Adams wouldn't recommend this product to a friendThe design of this simply doesn't last long term in a saltwater environment. I purchased the original model a couple years ago, first motor failed at 1 year, second failed a year later. I questioned the design and raised the concern that it would not hold up should any water raise into the upper cup of the skimmer (no matter how dialed in, your skimmer will always have times when the cup may overflow as the skimmer is ultra sensitive to overflowing) and this doesn't allow for any of that without causing significant damage. After multiple talks with customer support, where I was made to feel like it was my fault, I ultimately purchased another unit after two motor failures and noticed that a lot of the design flaws had been improved upon. Imagine that, must not have been all my fault after all. Still after multiple motor failures, I would plan on being prepared to replace the motor (which in my experience was not in stock and weeks from being available) around once a year. Sad to see a great company like Vertex that makes a very high quality skimmer not support a cleaner unit that isn't up to par with the rest of their quality standards. Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't recommend this product and would look at other comparable neck cleaners found at a more reasonable price that don't involve the customer figuring out design flaws at their expense. That being said, when the unit is working, it works as it should. It is simply not reliable in the long term (1+ year) without replacing components, and customer support is not very understanding of this.
horrible quality By omar on 5/19/2017omar wouldn't recommend this product to a friendthis is one of the most terrible products I have ever seen. purchased one it was dead on arrival, the motor spin but the blade stuck and do not spin. contacted them they asked me to purchase silicon Greece and Greece out the blade, did that did not help. purchased an extra blade, it did not work as well. then I purchased a whole new motor+blade unite. it worked great for 3 weeks then it stopped working, the same problem. motor spin, but blade is stuck. so I throw it away.
this product is really awful...just awful
Does Vertex make one that fit's the Omega 130
So my question is do we just mount this in place of our collection cup lid or does this have to be mounted on a lid to be installed. Are there any videos? I have a Vertex Omega 150 and want to use this system.
This will come in two options, one without a lid and one with a lid. If you order the vectra engine with lid it will come with a replacement lid with the hole already drilled and you can place it directly onto your skimmer. There may be videos out there however we have not produced product videos directly. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
What size lid do I need for the vertex auto neck cleaner if I have a alpha 170? I already owner the neck cleaner for my alpha 200. But want to purchase just the lid so it can be used on my 170. Thank you.
This will work with the 180mm lid. I have included the sku and link below.
Vertex Vectra Engine Universal Cleaner Unit with 180mm Lid
I am using this cleaner unit for three years and it was working fine.
Now electric motor stoped working
Can I buy replacement motor only?
