- USB Battery Powered DC Air Pump - Dual Output - Cobalt Aquatics
Dual Output | Battery Powered | Silent
Cobalt USB Powered air pumps use a 5V DC powered motor that also has an onboard battery that can last up to 24 hours without a direct connection to a power supply. It can run continuously or with a 10-second on/off cycle in the battery powered mode to make the pump last as long as possible. Power outages will usually last just a couple hours, but you never know when disaster could strike and have an outage for a few days. When your aquarium water goes without flow, O2 levels will start to drop and after a few hours, the lack of oxygen could start to cause serious issues for your fish. By just dropping an airline with a diffusion stone into your display tank creating some surface movement will help promote gas exchange, keeping the oxygen levels from depleting.

Lasted only 1 year By Adam on 1/12/2020Adam wouldn't recommend this product to a friendPurchased Dec 31, 2018.The one time in a year that I needed it and it fails. Had a power outage last night and it was barely pushing any bubbles. I pulled off the air stones and still hardly anything. 15 mins later and completely dead. It had been on charge all day today and not even a flicker of light from it. It stayed plugged in to power in the event that if I wasn't home it would turn on so it had plenty of power going to it. I would not recommend this pump unless you plan on using it within the first 90 days of the factory warranty. Luckily this was for a planted fresh water tank with no losses as the power outage only last a few hours.
10 second mode not available for power outage By LORI on 8/20/2019LORI would recommend this product to a friendI gave this a lower ranking for four reasons. First and foremost this is a Cobalt product and as such I expect similar to their heaters on function out of the box they are accurate and very little variance in temperature. See BRS review of heaters. Second the USB cord is not long enough for say 99% of the reef tanks out there. Third and most importantly if you want this for power outages, which is the only reason I would think anyone would want an air stone on their reef tank, it will only work in continuous mode once the power goes out. IE when you need battery life the most and the power goes out it kicks on automatically but in full battery sucking mode vs being able to have it kick on in 10 second interval mode. I would recommend this for the purpose I have purchased, as I think it is one of the cheapest options out there. It just seems to have been rushed to market and would have been so easy to allow the 10 second mode for power outages. The air pump also does not shut off once power is restored. So you are probably going to come home to salt creep everywhere when on extended trips. I know we are after simple and stable, which means you don't have to be an electrical engineer, but as an electrical engineer it would have been so easy to add these features. Still for 36 bucks it is going to keep my fish and corals alive during all but the most extended power outages. Hopefully Rev. 2 has the above features.
Powerful, Compact & Works As Advertised By neoGeorge on 6/12/2019neoGeorge would recommend this product to a friendI used this pump to supply air at night to coolers holding my fish and corals during a three day journey cross-country. Set to the 10 second mode it lasted all night, but I've never tested duration at continuous run or 10 second mode. It's louder than my Tetra Whisper pump that I use full time every day, but it's also more powerful.
Powerful & Quiet By DHil on 2/19/2019DHil would recommend this product to a friendTitle says it all, very quiet and a lot of power, low power consumption. Purchased this to run a scrubber.
