- Smart ATO Micro 120P - Auto Top Off System - AutoAqua
Now Includes Siphon Break
One of the smallest all-inclusive auto top off systems on the market today. The Micro ATO includes an optical water level sensor to keep an eye on the level within the sump with no moving parts. The optical sensor is very reliable, even in complete darkness, keeping a steady water and salinity level replacing any evaporated water with fresh water. The Micro ATO, like its predecessor, uses a magnetic mounting solution that works for tanks and sumps that have up to 1/2" thick walls.
An auto top off system is one of the first automated devices any reef keeper should have. When water evaporates, the salt is left behind slowly increasing the salinity of the tank. By utilizing an ATO device evaporated water can easily be replenished by the top off unit throughout the day keeping your tank's salinity very stable. Most of the time the location where the sensors need to be placed can be very limited in space.
AutoAqua has released their Micro ATO system making it the smallest auto top off unit on the market today. The downfall for most top off systems is the float valve or moving parts. AutoAqua utilizes an optical sensor to visually look at the water level. With the magnetic mounting of the optical sensor placement options are limitless while if the magnets are ever to slip or the sensor gets knocked and moved, the Micro ATO provides a real-time fail safe protection against such instances.
The siphon break needs to be mounted higher than the water level, and within the ATO reservoir to function properly. Water dripping out the hole when the pump is on is normal.

I really cannot recommend By Tim on 6/12/2019Tim wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI've been using this ATO for a couple of months. It is nice to have something that keeps up with evaporation, but it seems to be pretty temperamental. What I mean by that is it will stop after a few days of smooth operation and sound the alarm for seemingly no reason. The RO/DI reservoir will have plenty of water and there is nothing obstructing the tubing as far as I can see. All that I need to do to get it started and running again is unplug the thing and plug it back in. That is annoying, especially when it happens in the middle of the night. The most important thing is that I now lack confidence that it will perform without a similar stoppage when we are out of town for extended periods. How will I know if the thing has stopped so that I can ask somebody to go into the house and unplug and plug it back in? To me, this is a real issue and is why I struggle to recommend.
Leaks water By Alex b. on 5/4/2019Alex b. would recommend this product to a friendIt does the job but it the the it leaks a considerable amount of water from the siphon breaker I try fixing this with zip tights and plastic clamps but nothing seems to stop the leaking
2 years, no problems - works as advertized By Michael on 4/6/2019Michael would recommend this product to a friendI've been using this ATO since 2017 in a 24g nano tank. It runs 4 or 5 times a day and has never had an issue. The alarm has let me know multiple times that I am out of top off water.
Failed Pump, twice By Kevin on 3/9/2019Kevin wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI have had two different orders of this product, both of them have failed within a week of use. The sensor will blink red/blue and an alarm will go off not activating the pump. The water break and everything is set up accurately, and the pump is in a container only used to host fresh RO.
The best for your Nano tank!!!!! By The best of the best!!!!! on 2/11/2019The best of the best!!!!! would recommend this product to a friendI use this with my Redsea Reefer 170 Emax. It works fantastic. I use this with the solenoid valve and it works like a charm. If for some reasons, there is something wrong with your pump, or your water source is off or depleted, there is an alarm beeping noise so you can troubleshoot. Other ATO like APEX depends on email alert but prefer this alarm beeping noise. I also use another unit to fill up my 5 gallon jug that is connected to a solenoid valve and RO unit.
3 Years and so far so good By James on 2/10/2019James would recommend this product to a friendHave them on 3 of my tanks with the oldest one being 3 years old and so far no problems. i do have two extra pumps in-case i need them. And i run kalkwasser in my top off water i just clean off the sensor every week with a old tooth brush and every 6 months soak the pump in vinegar for 30min
Works for me!! By NaH2ONerd on 12/15/2018NaH2ONerd would recommend this product to a friendHave been using auto aqua smart ato for 13mo with zero issues. Keeps my 10gal Nano at 1.025 salinity without even breaking a sweat. I maintain the sensor when needed (every other month or so). So far so good!! Looking at upgrading to the newer Ultimate ATO with multiple sensors for redundancy when I set up the 65 gal.
Work's perfectly By Joel on 11/23/2018Joel would recommend this product to a friendBought this ATO 4 month's ago, still going strong and work's perfectly. I lose about 2.5 gallons due to evaporation everyday and this little pump keeps my water level at a consistent level.
There goes my salinity! By Christopher on 5/18/2018Christopher wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI wish I would have never bought this garbage. ATO is too important to risk on a device that does not shut off when the proper water level is met.
Works great and very quiet By Greg on 2/10/2018Greg would recommend this product to a friendMy system required me to set up the makeup water tank about 25 feet away from my tank. I cut and spliced the wires to the pump and everything works great.
Great! By Laura on 1/2/2018Laura would recommend this product to a friendThis works great! I've had it on my 55 for at least 6 months and it never misses a beat. I will definitely be buying another for my nano tank. I love the size and the fact that it beeps when the water in my ATO reservoir is out. It is also very easy to set up and use! A+ on this one.
Awesome Product! By Richard on 11/24/2017Richard would recommend this product to a friendI have run this ATO for over a year now and it has worked flawlessly the entire time. I've even had the pump submerged in my kalkwasser makeup water reservoir for the past six months without any issues whatsoever (I do keep a backup pump on hand though as a precaution). It is installed on my BioCube14 nano mixed reef aquarium and fits very easily which isn't the case with all products due to the unique design of the BioCube. The syphon breaker did have a slight leak initially as observed by another reviewer, but in my case the leak 'mysteriously' stopped after a day or two. The only maintenance I do is to remove the magnetically fastened water level sensor once a month or so and wipe it off with a clean rag just to prevent algae or other 'scummy' substance from coating the surface. There is a built-in overflow prevention mechanism in this ATO, but just as a safeguard I did program my Apex controller to shut-off power to the ATO if the pH rises above 8.3. This only works because I dose kalkwasser for makeup water which increases pH when added to the tank. This has been a very welcome and reliable addition to my setup. If it stopped working tomorrow I'd order another one without hesitation. Happy reefing!
Can you tell me how much water line drop this sensor gives you before it triggers the filling command? I want to see if it's more or less sensitive than my current ATO system
These ATOs are actually pretty accurate/sensitive to any changes in water level. This ATO uses an optical sensor and a small prism to read the water level and we rarely see more than a small fraction of an inch (perhaps 1/8" to 1/4") before the pump kicks on.
Hope this helps!
Just curious if this product will work if I have a rain barrel beside my aquarium filled up with water will this product take the water from the rain barrel and place it into my aquarium when it goes off?
On another note, we do not recommend using rainwater for saltwater aquarium top off use. Rainwater carries many pollutants and other impurities that without filtration could cause undesired results.
Can I put the sensor in a main display tank if I use LED lights? Will LED lights interfere with the sensor ?
You can certainly use this ATO in your display. The sensor uses a small laser and prism and ambient light will not interfere with the unit's function.
Have a great day!
