- SAL-1700 Salinity & Temperature Testing Pen - HM Digital
Quickly and accurately get a digital readout of the salinity and temperature of your aquarium water.
Seawater contains a variety of elements that will contribute to the overall specific gravity of the water. Many digital salinity meters are calibrated to read a sodium chloride only or brine solution and when applied to seawater, measurements are not accurate. The SAL-1700 is specifically calibrated to measure the specific gravity of seawater as opposed to a brine or sodium chloride only solution which results in more accurate measurements.

Better after calibration but dangerously inaccurate at first By Texas Reefer on 1/27/2020Texas Reefer wouldn't recommend this product to a friendOut of the box the factory calibration of this device was dangerously low. Using standardized calibration fluids, which aren't provided with this unit by the way, mine was consistently reading 0.07 SG low. After re-calibrating against a 1.025 solution as directed in the manual, I can now trust it to about +/- 0.002 SG. Not really the accuracy I was hoping for. After nearly damaging 2 tanks by responding to the bad data this device produced, I decided invest in the Milwaukee device and couldn't be happier- I'd suggest making the extra spend and giving this one a pass.
Well about to buy a third By Jaysson on 12/30/2019Jaysson wouldn't recommend this product to a friendHaven’t been in the hobby for too long but I’m pretty sure that this meter has gone crazy. Says my tank water is a 1.012...... its been testing low at 1.022 so I have been slowly doing small water changes with a little higher salt. I am really hoping I just didn’t over salinate my tank because I felt as though this thing was accurate. local fish store here I come.
Works well By brian on 12/15/2019brian would recommend this product to a friendI've only had this tester for a short time so can't speak to durability, but so far it has been easy to use and accurate.
