- LED Refractometer for Reading Salinity with Calibration Fluid - Bulk Reef Supply
Precise & Reliable Specific Gravity Readings in any Lighting Conditions!
Refractometers are a must-have piece of equipment for any aquarists! Easily and accurately measure the salinity of your tank and with the built-in LED light, your readings will be consistent no matter the type of ambient light source. Each LED Refractometer has ATC (automatic temperature compensation) abilities and will adjust the reading, depending on your water temperature. Just add a small sample of water to the prism, close the cover, and view the reading through the focusable eye-piece. The LED light can be activated by pressing the waterproof button on the top of the prism cover.
- Precise and consistent
- Simple calibration
- Readings in seconds
- Durable and reliable
- Includes FREE calibration solution
Refractometers are one of the best pieces of equipment an aquarist can purchase. It not only ensures accurate measurements of salinity but it is also infinitely easier to use and read.
Range: 1.000 - 1.070 SG
Refractometer Calibration Instructions:
1) Using the dropper place a few drops of the included calibration solution on the prism and close the lid.
2) Looking through the eyepiece, activate the light and turn the eyepiece until the prism is in focus.
3) Screw until the unit reads sg 1.026 (35ppt)
4) Place the cap back on your calibration solution for storage. It is important that the cap is on tight or water will evaporate and ruin the solution.
Note: It is best to calibrate refractometers to the exact specific gravity you will desire. With reef tanks we highly suggest using the included calibration solution to calibrate the refractometer to 1.026 (35ppt). Do not calibrate using RO/DI water as this will not give accurate readings for saltwater aquariums.
- Carrying Case
- Screw Driver for calibrating
- Adjustable eyepiece
- LED Prism Cover
- Salinity Calibration Fluid. Calibrates to 1.026sg (35ppt)
Works Well By Shirley on 8/7/2018Shirley would recommend this product to a friendI love the LED feature of this meter, but it works great even without using the LED.
Works Well By Batfish on 6/8/2018Batfish would recommend this product to a friendWe deal with a lot of sumps in basements, or tanks that are in otherwise dimly lit rooms. Aiming at the tank works somewhat with most refractometers, but having a built in light source is really great. I've found the readings consistent and easy to read, the markings stand out well (whether you're using the built in light or another light source), and the meter feels well built. My only area of concern is that the LED battery doesn't appear to be replaceable -- honestly, I can't really figure out where it is. So, apparently, once the LED wears out, you throw it out and get a new one.... I'd rather replace a $8 battery than a $30 meter. :-( No idea how long it'll last for, either. Would be nice if it had some sort of solar cell and a capacitor for the LED -- stick it under the tank lights for a minute and it'll charge for a bunch of uses.
One small pain in the butt, you really need three hands to focus or calibrate it if you're using the built in light. Hitting the button, holding it, and turning the focus or calibration screw is a pain. Of course, you can just use any bright light for this.
Perfect By ScubaSteve on 6/6/2018ScubaSteve would recommend this product to a friendPerfect if your tank and sump are in different rooms. The LED light gives me consistent readings. Just use the focus on the eyepiece to make the line nice and crisp for easy readings. The calibration solution included is a definite bonus!
Hard to read By Jim on 6/1/2018Jim wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI found this hard to read. The blue part is so light I found it hard to distinguish from the white part. Battery does not seem replaceable. Much lighter than my old one, made mostly of plastic. Good idea, but I was disappointed in this product.
