A Couple of Things You Should Also Buy When Assembling By See Gee Sea on 3/5/2020See Gee Sea wouldn't recommend this product to a friendThe harsh reviews here that Randy mentioned in his assembly video are indeed warranted. I set this up for my Red Sea 350 and the measurements were extremely helpful HOWEVER all the measurements are in metric or tenths and hundreds of inches, which if you aren't good at math like me are had to convert to 8ths and 16ths. Also, it INCLUDES a zigzag for the overflow tower/box so you don't need to buy additional one like I did (do I really want to return an $8.00 part now). I also used a cheap plastic miter box to guild the hacksaw cuts. Be careful when making the cuts because you will end up scratching some of the metal if the blade wobbles which in turn makes it unsightly. Some of the brackets are tighter than a shark's backside and others are lose. Overall, I'd expect better from Red Sea.
I agree with Ryan By Brandon on 1/5/2020Brandon would recommend this product to a friendI've had this and the BRS screen top and I prefer this one hands down. My biggest piece of advice I could give is just take it slow when putting the spline in to hold the screen in place.
Has been olding strong for over a year By chris on 10/26/2019chris would recommend this product to a friendI have 4 aquariums and just one that has this cover. Two have $200 plus acrylic covers and the other a cover that came with the aquarium. When I first put this together it worked, but I wondered, will it last. It's been over a year now with this cover being removed every day for feeding and weekly cleaning. The netting on the Red Sea cover is still tight but the tanks with the expensive acrylic covers are SAGGING! I will have to remove them, remove the spline and reattach the netting. This is something I have not had to do with the Red Sea cover. So, I'm buying another Red Sea cover right now for my tank upgrade. Why spend 4+ times the money for a cover that doesn't work any better??
It's a typical DIY project. If you're a reefer you must be a DIY kinda person. A little time and patience will yield a great cover.
Very nice! By Steve on 10/3/2019Steve would recommend this product to a friendI have read every review possible for aquarium netting on his site, and, while hesitant, purchased this in the 24x24 size. The pieces are very well made in my opinion. I will say this: IF YOU ARE NOT CAPABLE OF DIY TYPE PROJECTS,THIS IS NOT FOR YOU!!! I read the instructions and followed them step by step. Also watched several YT videos on the product. My end result after 1 try was perfect. Tips- Dont rush it, make sure the frame is perfectly square or it wont fit properly, be patient with the screen ( unroll it and cut off what you need leaving a few inches on each side), you dont need a spline roller from HD ( the one that it comes with is what I used with no issues), JUST RELAX!
I would highly reccomend this product.
some tips I found by accident By BILL on 5/13/2019BILL would recommend this product to a friendI purchased this kit for my Red Sea 350 Deluxe, except I wanted to divide my net top in half. After reading some of the poor reviews I was hesitant, but decided to give it a try. I also watched the recent BRS video conducted by Ryan where he assembled this kit and compared it to BRS's kit. In the video he preferred the Red Sea kit to BRS's because the netting is neatly rolled in the Red Sea as apposed to the BRS net is folded and the folds are memory creased in making it a little more difficult to press out... What I took away from Ryan's process is his tip to use paper clamp clips to hold the netting in place.and he stressed not to make the netting too tight. But when I tried repeating this on my frame, the 1st side went in easily, but when i started to roll in the screen spline in, I tore the the corner out... So I took the 1st side apart, fortunately there was enough over lap that I could side the torn outside the frame and start over. This is when I discovered my 1st tip: If you roll the spline in before you place the netting in position, the spline will go in much easier.when you place the netting in position.. Here's my 2nd tip: before you roll in the spline over the netting, place the netting in position and use the spline roller to roll the netting into the groove... When you do this you will avoid stretching the netting too tight, because excess overlap will go into the groove without pulling the netting too tight.. And as Ryan stated and I repeat don't make the net too tight or it will tear when you roll in the spline..... I hop these tips will help the next person who purchased the Red Sea Kit.
Oh one last thought, I reached out to Red Sea to make sure I had all the extra parts needed for my divided top... They were very prompt getting back to me and very helpful.. I both sent an email and called.. On both occasions I was help by Amanda Tennant..

They didn't include all the parts!! By Michelle on 5/2/2019Michelle wouldn't recommend this product to a friendWhat a load of crap! I pay almost 60 dollars for this (with shipping) and it doesn't even include all the parts and piece. I only got 2 short and one long along with 4 corners! I got the 48x31. Do not from Bulk Reef Supply!! Find anyone else. Just don't do it!!! They cheat you out of your money. Buyer beware!
Challenging to build but works and looks great! By Eric on 4/17/2019Eric would recommend this product to a friendI built this for my xxl 750, and overall I'm very happy with the look and final results. I read many bad reviews prior to purchasing this, but for the price (about $100 after I bought additional corners to fit lights and an auto feeder) it was worth the attempt. If you compare to other customer built screen covers you are looking at $2-400, and will have to wait some time. My thought was try to build this one, and order one of the others if this doesn't work out. I've used the BRS custom kits on 2 prior tanks, and they worked out well, though didn't turn out the best as I didn't know what I was doing. If I didn't have prior experience building screen covers I would have been really frustrated with this kit, so I hope this review helps others plan out their build. BRS - maybe consider doing a build video to offer tips /tricks?
With that said, the kit instructions gives perfect dimensions on what to cut the frame to. The front, sides, and ribs are spot on. Enough corners are provided, along with extra material. Anything on the back edge requires additional cutouts ordered separately. If you have lights attached to the tank, either from RedSea or the ecotech RMS system, you will have to verify your light mount positions, then do a lot of custom length cuts. Measure twice cut once.
Tools needed: A miter box for clean cuts, a marker (I like the silver paint color so I can see it better), tape measure and a hack saw are a must, as is a razor blade to cut the netting.
Once built, I suggest doing a test fitting without the netting installed so that you can verify the fit. The length to cut everything in the instructions is spot on, but as I mentioned, I had to do numerous adjustments to make the cutouts work.
Go slow with the netting install. The netting is brittle, but really the only thing the roller cut on me was the outside edge which I would use the razor blade on anyways.
Overall, I'm very happy with this. Its not a perfect product, but it gets the job done and looks great too. Have patience with the build, double check measurements and fittings, and it'll work out great. Expect to spend a few hours building this. If I didn't have anything on the back of the tank rim, this would have been really easy to build. Hope this helps others with their decision!
Absolute Garbage By Joshua on 3/23/2019Joshua wouldn't recommend this product to a friendRed Sea should be ashamed putting their name on this product. First off, why they don't sell pre assembled lids for their tanks is beyond me. They have the measurements, manufacturing, and marketing to have a great product, but instead they sell these flimsy DIY kits. Secondly, you have to hand cut every single piece, they ship them longer than their largest tank so they do not fit any tank by default. Third, the mesh is super cheap. Just using their roller tool that comes with the kit to push the gasket in *CUTS* the netting in places, so it hangs into the tank, defeating the purpose of having it. Plus everything comes in a tube so the mesh is rolled up which makes it an absolute pain to work with since you need it to be flat. Also, the plastic corners fit just loose enough that pulling the mesh tight to secure it can pull the frame out of square causing it to fall into the tank. It's just a hot dumpster fire of a product. I wish I would have read more reviews, but do yourself a favor. Do NOT buy this product.
Hard to build and does not work. By Richard on 3/16/2019Richard wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI watched a video on how to build this took very precise measurements, put on the screen and it had changed shape and just falls into my tank. Took the screen off and tried again and it does the same thing. No its just garbage and I will spend my money to get a custom one built for me.
Excellent top. By Tanner on 2/3/2019Tanner would recommend this product to a friendI purchased the 24" x 24" screen top. The frame and joint materials are excellent. Very sleek, sturdy, and extremely customizable. After reading other reviews about the poor screen material quality I was a little hesitant to buy this kit, but I pulled the trigger and I'm glad I did! Not sure if they've upgraded it or what but it's very strong and quality material. Plus, I received enough material to easily make 2 or 3 screen tops if I messed up. I'll roll it back up and save it for replacement down the road. Great product.
OK, could be better By Rivus on 12/23/2018Rivus would recommend this product to a friendOverall I like it. It would be ideal if the tabs were slightly thinner a just a bit longer to fit better in the slot below the hinged back panel. As is you have to be careful when moving it or it drops into the aquarium as those tabs don't have much of purchase..
Netting is absolutely trash By jason on 11/27/2018jason wouldn't recommend this product to a friendFrame and corners are ok , but the netting is absolutely garbage and cannot be placed in the frame without ripping and cracking. It's almost like the netting is dry rotted .
Do these come precut for the Red Sea tanks? IE for the overflow etc.
What set up would I need for a 72 by 18 split in the middle 125 gallon tank
For tanks with a center brace like yours, you would likely need to build two kits for each half of the tank. The R42081 36" X 24" CUSTOMIZABLE DIY AQUARIUM NET COVER would be needed for each half. :)
Will the light mount cut outs on the 36 by 24 screen top allow enough room needed to use the ecotech rms mounts?
In order to go around the RMS brackets, we recommend these universal cutouts as the RMS bracket would be too large for the regular cutouts. Have a great day!
