Dual Water Channel Design
CUBE Medium sumps feature unique flow through the separate refugium and skimmer chamber. The main advantage is that your skimmer can now uptake undissolved organics while your refugium can absorb nutrients like ammonia, phosphorus, and other unwanted nutrients without having to compete with each other.
The Eshopps Cube sumps have a unique flow pattern through them. Water first drains into the main drain chamber where a portion of the water will flow into the refugium chamber, and skimmer chamber completely separate. The skimmer compartment has a filter sock to help polish the water of any debris or detritus before entering the protein skimmer, where the refugium compartment gets completely unfiltered water. Keeping the flow paths isolated greatly increases the protein skimmers efficiency and also the growth rate of the refugium. Both chambers drain into the return pump chamber where water can be pushed back into the aquarium by your choice of return pump.
Refugium - 11.5" x 7.5"
Refugiums are great for holding macroalgae and other nutrient reducing organisms. Just add a refugium light to the CUBE Medium for an efficient source of filtration. Lights like the Tunze Full Spectrum LED and Kessil H80 are perfect choices.
Skimmer Chamber - 11.5" x 8.5"
Simply choose any skimmer that has a footprint less than 11.5" x 8.5" and you are in business. Smaller sumps may require space-saving skimmers to fit properly, selecting a protein skimmer similar to the Eshopps X-160 would be a perfect choice.

Fair Review By William on 1/30/2020William would recommend this product to a friendThis is my 3rd tank in my home. I wanted a smaller setup in my bedroom. The tank is a 60G Cube (24*24*24). This obviously means the stand has fairly restrictive areas to place a full sized standard sump. I purchase this one after looking it over in person and deciding it would provide the best filtration in the tight space. I paired it with a Reef Octopus Classic 150 SSS. As mention in another review the channel below the skimmer is small and dose collect debris. I was able to easily clean it out with a wave maker down in the sump aimed up in there. Bear in mind the tight area I am in under the tank so it is not too difficult. Depending on how you position the sump you will not have easy access to something. The sock is on the back, refugium is front left and skimmer chamber on the front right. I figured i needed easy access to the refugium for chaeto trimming and the skimmer collection cup the most to positioned it as described above with the intakes on the back left corner. Only problem / inconvenience is the sock is on the back side and can not be seen from the from due to the solid colored wall. I must pick up the sock or view it between my bedroom wall and the stand to see how dirty it is. But, this is a trade off. If you want a compact but well performing sump there will be a trade. Overall I am pleased with this sump and would recommend it to anyone with a Cube aquarium needing to fit within a stand right at the aquarium footprint or close to it.
Worst sump on the market By Michael on 10/29/2019Michael wouldn't recommend this product to a friendThis sump is a total waste of money. The way its designed it is impossible to clean without draining it. You cant adjust the water level in it. I wish I could send back
Poor quality execution By bk on 1/23/2019bk wouldn't recommend this product to a friendThe channel under the skimmer chamber collects crud and is near impossible to clean without taking entire sump apart. The edges of the underside of pump chamber lid are extremely sharp, and I needed to sand and polish to avoid cuts and slivers, as is the divider holding pump chamber filter media. The filter sock does not stay in place and floats up so make sure you add rocks or some kind of anchor to keep it down.
