Why does BRS recommend this?

Those who have used Cepex ball valves know they are worth every penny.  Most hardware stores carry cheap ball valves that over time get hard to turn and can break pretty easily.  Cepex ball valves will last a lifetime with super smoother operation. We are always recommending the use of unions on plumbing as well.  Unions make everything from plumbing to maintenance easier.  Having a union on each side of the ball valve allows for easy removal of hardware, or isolation of equipment for service.

Cepex Ball Valves operate with smooth precision and last forever.

  • Comes with slip AND thread fittings
  • Smooth long-term operation
  • Key for tightening seal
  • Easy breakdown makes cleaning a breeze
  • More professional look than white Schedule 40 PVC

The golden rule of plumbing is that every job takes three trips to the store. While this can be frustrating locally it can be much worse when shopping online. Being short a fitting or two can delay a plumbing project for days. Here are some quick tips to avoid this.

  • Plan your plumbing on paper
  • Don't skimp on unions. Unions allow for easy breakdown and maintenance as well as remove the need for precise elbow placement. Use them as often as possible.
  • When in doubt order extra. We happily accept returns for a full refund (less shipping) on all unused fittings as part of our 365 day return policy. A few extra bucks in return shipping is less frustrating than a project delay.

Product Questions

I am setting up a 240 gallon reef tank it's 8 feet long with an overflow on each end 3/4 supply and 1 inch return I wanted to use these ball valves but wasn't sure if they can work with schedule 40 or if I have to plumb the whole setup in schedule 80? Also I wanted to get the wye check valve in 3/4 in for supply but it looks like it has slip fittings how can I install the check valve inline with the solid piping?
Question by: Louis on Dec 5, 2013, 11:51 PM
Hey Louis,
Sch40 and sch80 have the same size fittings, etc and are interchangeable so no worries there. The slip fittings on the check valve are the same diameter as the pipe, so they can be connected with unions or really any other fititng that would connect two pieces of pipe.

can these valves be used with vinyl tubing.
Question by: phrank on Nov 8, 2013, 1:27 AM
Vinyl tubing cannot be connected directly but you could also pick up some barb fittings to attach to each side of the valve that would then allow you to connect a flexible tubing.

Do you guys sell the union nut for these ball valves?
Question by: Robert on Sep 15, 2017, 1:29 AM
Hey there,

While we don't sell the threaded nut portion of the valve, if you're looking to re-use a cepex ball valve, we do have replacement union ends, which can be purchased at the link below.

Do you sell replacement slip fittings? I'd like to re-use my valves on a new build.
Question by: Derrick on Nov 8, 2016, 6:27 PM
Hey there, thanks for reaching out to us! We currently do not sell the replacement sleeves for these ball valves. Also, the Sch80 True Unions will not fit with the Cepex valve. You would have to purchase a new valve for those parts. :-)

Can you please tell me the length of the 1" valve, from end to end? Need to make sure there's room to add one of these before building my stand.
Question by: Shannon on Aug 15, 2014, 11:42 AM
Hi Shannon,

The 1" Cepex ball valve is 4 7/8" inches long from end to end.

Hope it fits for you!
Have a great day :)

Can I use the Cepex ball valves with Schedule 40 PVC? My tank is already drilled for the Schedule 40 bulkheads so I'm already stuck with that kind of PVC. Just wanted to be sure before I purchased this for my plumbing.
Question by: Craig on Nov 11, 2013, 3:28 PM
Hi Craig,
Schedule 80 and 40 pvc are compatible. All the plumbing will have the corresponding nominal sizes, so a 1" Sch80 Cepex ball valve for example will fit 1" Sch40 pipe just fine.

I have 3 1/2” valves running a manifold this set up has been running for a little over a year and I have already replaced all 3 valves once because they were leaking through the shaft of the handle. At the time you didn’t have the replacement gasket kit in stock so I just got new ones. A few months later they are all leaking again. I have several 3/4” and 1 1/2” that are great still dry as a bone. Am I missing something on the 1/2”? Would a gate valve be a better option in 1/2”? Thanks kevin
Question by: Kevin Potter on Aug 4, 2019, 3:19 PM
Hey there!

A gate valve probably wouldn't help much more than a ball valve, in fact I prefer the ball valve because the control does not need to be as precise. If you are experiencing a leak in your valves please contact our customer support for warranty support.

Take care!
