- XF230 Gyre Pump with Controller (2300 GPH) - Maxspect
Compatible with aquariums up to 1/2"
Max Flow 2300 GPH
The new family of Gyre pumps now come with an advanced controller that unleashes a whole new world of options. With the ability to connect up to multiple pumps for a sync or anti-sync relationship, customizable flow cycles, and much more! The Gyres crossflow technology allows for an evenly distributed flow that helps remove dead spots in the tank.
With the unique flow patterns of the Gyre pumps, you do not have to worry nearly as much about positioning and aquascaping design. The Gyres crossflow technology allows for a gentle, evenly distributed flow that considerably helps removes dead spots in the tank making them perfect for frag tanks, and shallow lagoon-style aquariums.
Recommended for aquariums up to 100+ gallons
- Controls up to 2 individual Gyre pumps
- Super-Silent magnetic mounting
- Longer, more durable cable
- 5 Different modes of flow
- Customizable flow cycles
- 6 Adjustable flow variables
- Linear flow
- Single rotor End Cap included
In most cases when choosing a powerhead, you will look into a bulky and intrusive propeller style powerhead that leaves dead spots in corners and makes you limited in coral placement due to the sheer force of the flow they need to produce. The Gyre pumps use crossflow technology to help evenly distribute the current throughout the tank without creating a single concentrated point of flow. Since the sheet of water that it produces makes a "gyre" flow pattern that is very efficient and gentle giving you more coral placement and aquascaping options. The design of the Gyre body and silent suspension mounting system keeps the entire package very low profile and super quiet.
The new Advanced Gyre Controller now lets you couple up to two Gyre pumps together off a single power supply. The two connected pumps can run in sync, anti-sync, or a couple of other modes giving you more control over the output. It now also lets you set a full 24-hour flow cycle without the need to connect to a third party controller.
If you choose not to set your own custom flow cycle, Maxspect also expertly programmed a couple of 24-hour cycles, like Lunar Tidal Cycle (LTC) or the Oceanic Gyre Cycle (OGC). On top of all of that Maxspect added new flow patterns too, like Random and Gradual Pulsing mode in addition to the traditional Constant, Pulse, and Alternating Gyre modes.

Pump hummm By Mkis on 1/21/2019
Mkis wouldn't recommend this product to a friendHow can this pump still have 4 stars with all these low reviews? This can’t be accurate? -

Pushes a lot of water! By Jason on 1/14/2019
Jason would recommend this product to a friendWe all know these push a lot of water, I run two of the 230 pumps. The best thing is you can run 2 pumps off of the advanced controller using only one power cord! They might not be the most silent option but that shouldn't rule them out completely. -
So far so good By Ken on 1/9/2019
Ken would recommend this product to a friendReceived my gyre XF-230 a day early (standard shipping) and I was impressed with how the power head itself was secured in a tin for protection. The manual leaves something to be desired but a quick You Tube search and I was off and running. I am running at 40% right now as much more and I may find all my substrate on one side of the tank. The noise is very minimal at this power level, My protein skimmer makes more noise. A few tweeks and it should be set. If all works well I will definitely invest in a second head to run apposing. -
Complicated. Loud. By MD on 10/13/2018
MD wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI tried to enjoy these but the whining and constant hum kept it at 10% for me and with no variance so it was basically useless. I'm sure it's a great wavemaker for those with more forgiving wives and mancaves, but for me I had to switch it out for Tunze, which are basically silent compared to this. -
Great water mover By Donny on 10/6/2018
Donny would recommend this product to a friendHave been running the gyre for about 2 months. Not the easiest to program, but not impossible. They are louder than any powerhead I've run until now, but not so bad you cant have them going while watching a movie.
As far as water movement, they are amazing. I have a an awesome wave shifting back and forth stirring up the entire tank.
I wish they were apex compatible out of the box. -
Loud and a pain to clean By Jeffrey on 8/19/2018
Jeffrey would recommend this product to a friendI have two on the back of a 120 to supplement my two mp 40's. Running them at 50% or higher they have an annoying hum. What I dislike about them most is cleaning them. What a pain!!! That being said they do move a ton of water. -
Awsome By fidel on 7/31/2018
fidel would recommend this product to a friendI really like the flow. Have not had it long but works just fine. Little noisy but not crazy -

Love the Flow By Mark on 2/15/2018
Mark wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI love the Flow but I went to clean my gyre that was order on April 26 installed at the end of May 2017 the magnet that holds the gyre on the tank had completely corroded and is falling apart. I was very nice sent several pictures to coralvue. t5hey promptly sent me a link to buy a new one. Not very good for longevity -
Broke after 6 weeks By Annie on 1/31/2018
Annie wouldn't recommend this product to a friendThis product worked just fine for 6 weeks, but then it suddenly stopped working. I tried to take it apart to clean as per the instruction book and YouTube videos, but the pieces were stuck and didn't come apart easily like they were supposed to. I emailed the company support. He told me that it sounded like the propellers were stripped and told me to use the replacement pieces that come with the product. I had to literally PRY the bushings off the ceramic shaft with screwdriver and pliers. I told him I was nervous I was going to damage the shaft when trying to remove the bushings and asked what I would have to do if that happened... he told me I'd have to buy a replacement. I just think it's ridiculous that a piece of equipment breaks so quickly after use, doesn't come apart as described, and the customer is forced to buy replacement parts if they have to use excess force to put on replacement parts. I definitely wouldn't recommend this pump. -
Love it By Adele on 1/19/2018
Adele would recommend this product to a friendI bought this expecting a functional yet noisy wave maker. I can say, that in the 2 weeks I've operated it I could only hear a slight fluctuation as it rampped up and down its cycles and only when I had the return pumps off for cleaning. However, its not been operated over 60% power and not sure if I will ever need to go higher in my 48" long reef. I totally plan to buy another pump head to have the dual flow from either end of the tank.

Everybody's favourite question: Is it Apex Compatible??
Hi BRS,
I'm having trouble getting the best balance of flow in my 60 gallon (2'x2'x2') cube. Would this pump be too much horsepower for my size of tank?
Happy reefing!
How long is the cord from the controller and from the controller to the plug?
Thanks for reaching out to us. The pump cord to the controller measures 10ft. and 5ft. from the controller to the wall.
Does the cord go in the water? A big thick ugly cord inside the tank would not be very attractive.
Would this work on a FOWLR 210 Gallon Tank 72x24x30? Thinking of getting 2?
Will the xf130 cap work in this to put it in a Nano? Or does it already come with a cap to make it smaller?
Would two of these pumps be sufficient for a SPS dominant tank measuring 60Lx24Wx24H?
Would this fit a nuvo fusion 30L?
The 230 would be a little too powerful for that size tank. I would recommend an MP10 or a powerhead by Innovative Marine.
