Maintaining the correct temperature for tropical fish may be the single most important factor for a successful aquarium. Since fish do not have the ability to regulate their own body temperature, it is crucial to provide consistent water temperatures with minimal fluctuations.
Majority of fish cannot cope with stress from constant temperature fluctuations, which leads to a compromised immune system. This increases the probability of avoidable diseases, parasites, and bacterial infections.
100% DIGITAL OPERATION - TITANIUM Body
The perfect submersible element for fresh or saltwater aquaria. Virtually indestructible with the benefits of fast heat transfer without any corrosion. Integrated thermal shut off and out of water safety mechanism.

Still Alive after all these years By Scott on 4/25/2019Scott would recommend this product to a friend500w unit still in place in my 125g Reef with 65g sump which has been running continuously since 8/2012. I have never had any failures and replaced a functioning probe at the 3 year mark as a precaution. I would NOT run any heater/system without some form of secondary failure protection such as a system controller etc. The digital temperature sensor does tend to drift up to a degree after a year or so but I calibrate all heating cooling at 6 month intervals with a Hanna Checktemp 1. This heater can be calibrated in less than 2 minutes. I wish there was a better system available out there but to date this serves my needs better than the rest. Having a remote temp sensor and large digital readout with the ability to calibrate the unit are all nice features. When I bought mine it was still the suction cup version, the new magnetic probe and element holders will be sweet. I can't speak to there function or longevity but I am excited to try them out. I, like several other reviewers, am hopeful that the quality hasn't deteriorated as I will be purchasing a new one.
Followup to previous review. By Rando on 12/24/2018Rando wouldn't recommend this product to a friendLast week I submitted a very negative review of this product "Probe lasted two weeks". I am submitting this followup because BRS called me personally to make this very unhappy customer a very happy and loyal customer. They asked what they could do to make things right and when I explained that JBJ was no help and that I had ordered a replacement probe on line they immediately gave me a store credit for my purchase price of the new probe. Good on you BRS, bad JBJ. One more tidbit, I found that after remaining dry for a few days my old probe began working again. Seems that the sealant around the connecting wire is the problem. I mixed up some JB Weld and made a new seal and now the old probe works. I resealed the new probe as well to prevent a similar problem from happening. Hope his helps someone else.
No Problems When Controlled By Apex By Jeffrey on 11/27/2018Jeffrey would recommend this product to a friendI've had this heater for 3 years and 3 months with no issues. I do not use the controller that it came with because it is run by my Apex and would recommend this heater if it will be run in this way.
heater fine, controller junk By Redick on 11/9/2018Redick wouldn't recommend this product to a friendafter 6 months of use, the controller ceased to function. I bought a Neptune apex after that anyway. The heater functioned well but the controller is junk.
Temp probe is unreliable. By SaltyH2O on 11/5/2018SaltyH2O wouldn't recommend this product to a friendtemp probe will fail. I've owned two of these and thought the first was a lemon but I had the same issue. not going to gamble on it a third time and have it fail and crash my tank. Move on and buy another heater.
Poor quality, poor controller, probe is extremely short lived. By Nick on 3/20/2018Nick wouldn't recommend this product to a friendI have 3 of these on 3 separate tanks (150, 300, 1000 watt heaters). The 300 and 1000 watt have been running for about 3 months and both now started to have major issues that are aiding in algae blooms in the tanks due to higher than normal temps. The laminated cover is literally falling off both of the controller unit screens and they are no longer holding calibration causing water temps to fluctuate up and down wildly. The controller is reading over a full degree off what the actual temp is so I re-calibrate it and by the next day it is off again. And even then it doesn't stay consistent and causes the heater to not shut off and turn on when it should to keep my tank between 76 and 78 like it should. On different days I've had it read as low as 74 and as high at 80 which for a reef tank is not stable enough. The 150 watt has only been running for a month but I'm fully expecting it to have the same issues in the future due to poor product quality and will be being proactively replacing it ASAP. From what I can tell the heating element itself is "okay" but the controllers and temp probe are absolutely worthless. I decided to keep the titanium heating elements at least for now but throw out the controllers and use an Apex on each of them instead. I'd give them 0 stars if I could. They have been a total waste of money. For the cost of fish and coral, some of which are very expensive and sensitive, do yourself a favor and don't waste your time and money buying the JBJ heater and controller.
Works Great!!! By Novice on 12/22/2016Novice would recommend this product to a friendI have been using this temp controller for a little over a year. It has performed very well and maintained great consistency. When working with salt water aquariums consistency is the most important consideration to be made. Slow and steady the only things that happens fast is bad things
Happy enough that I just bought another! By Bryan on 11/27/2016Bryan would recommend this product to a friendI've had the 300 watt unit on a 68 gal reef set up for just over 3 years without issue. Didn't give it 5 stars only because it's not exact to the the tenth of a degree of the setting but otherwise easy to use and to read.
Been in operation since 2010. By axelfoly on 5/1/2016axelfoly would recommend this product to a friendI have the 300W - True Temp Titanium Heating System. It has been in my tank working since 2010. No problems. I can't say how good the controller is because about two years after purchase I started using the Apex aquarium controller. The controller that came with the heater never failed.
Going since 2009 By Paul on 4/2/2016Paul would recommend this product to a friendI've had this unit since 2009 without a single issue. Not sure if quality has gone down since then but from my standpoint I would buy another in the future.
3 years By Adam on 2/25/2016Adam would recommend this product to a friendI have waited nearly 3 years to write this review. After reading bad reviews of this heater, I decided to see how long she lasted before reviewing. She's still going strong. I purchased this heater in august of 2013. When I first set up my 100 gallon tank. I placed the heating element in my sump with heat sensor probe up stream. Im at 2.5 years and not so much as a single problem. Holds the temp perfect within 3 degrees. I have it on a apex controller with redundant heat sensor in case i fails in the on position, so it is esentially powered on and off entirely as I do not rely on the single controller it comes with. I cannot speak on the controller that is provided. However, the element has never failed me. Excellent product. Highly recommend. On a side not, I have excellent grown. I keep sis, ops and several fish. Inclduding elegance. Take care of it and it takes care of you.
ABSOLUTELY UNRELIABLE By Luucky13 on 2/23/2016Luucky13 wouldn't recommend this product to a friendPay attention to the bad reviews. They are there for a reason. If you want a heater with the lifespan of 6 months to a year, then buy this product! I've now owned 3, and I will never purchase another JBJ product ever again. 2 of the controllers have died on my inside of a year. And one heating element died right on the 12 month mark. These are crucial pieces of equipment in an aquarium, and a company that has been in operation for years still can't make one work for longer than a year. Pathetic really. Considering you pay an absolute premium for this heater and controller.... don't bother! One controller actually leaked voltage into my sump and shocked me HARD. Terrible product, terrible customer service and would never recommend these to anyone.
