CO2 Scrubbers
Excess carbon dioxide in the air around a saltwater aquarium can dissolve into the water and lower pH. When pH levels drop too far, corals and other marine life may struggle to grow and thrive. A CO2 scrubber helps prevent this problem by filtering out carbon dioxide before it reaches the water, creating a more stable and healthy environment.
Most scrubbers are connected directly to the air intake of a protein skimmer. As the skimmer pulls in air, it passes through a chamber filled with CO2 absorbent media, which captures the carbon dioxide. The purified air is then drawn into the skimmer, mixed with water, and introduced back into the aquarium. This simple setup helps raise and stabilize pH, giving corals the consistent conditions they need for strong growth.
